For a Saturday evening, we were sat within 5 minutes wait which was great. We were sat at a booth by a large window facing the lake which was beautiful. Every table comes with a cast iron skillet of cornbread, slaw, and pickled cabbage. The waitress was attentive to our table's needs and checked in regularly. The food was hot and the crab tasted so fresh and well seasoned- the shrimp was... ok (didn't taste as fresh). My husband enjoyed his catfish. I think the hushpuppies were the star of the show. I hadn't been here in years and it's just as good as i remembered. Staff was very nice and the hostess even took her time walking us to the table which I truely appreciated as I was with an elderly lady that walked a little slow. From what I seen everything looked clean and in order. I had the riverboat special and took enough food home for another meal. Great value picking that one. Bae and I are returning from the ATL and decided to crossover Interstate 431 to Top O! There is a wait and these folks just opened the doors. After 20 mins, we were seated by the window on the Coosa River side. Beautiful! But, we here for this food. Our server is Aly! Girl you nice and efficient. You are top tier here. We glad we have you. I've been hearing about Top O' the River since my days at Jacksonville State, and I finally got to try it today with a big group from church celebrating a birthday. One of if not our favorite restaurant to get our occasional fried seafood! We go for the whole fried catfish, but nothing I've ever had wasn't great! You start with some amazing complimentary cole slaw, pickled onions and corn bread. We love that with some of their delicious turnip greens. Although the highlight is their seafood, my daughter loves the grilled chicken fingers. They are marinated in what tastes like a Dales marinade and grilled to perfection. The restaurant is huge with enough tables to fill on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately and had a table by the window looking out at the lake. They gave us coleslaw, cornbread and pickle onions to start our meal off which I thought the cornbread was good. We pretty much ordered the same entree with catfish fillets except for me having the jumbo fried shrimp and he having the jumbo shrimp scampi. Besides the coleslaw and collard greens (which we didn't get) there's only baked potato and French fries to choose from. Our meals, Shrimp Scampi and K-Bob Combo (chicken and shrimp), were fresh and flavorful. As appetizers, we were served homemade cornbread, coleslaw, and pickled onions. With our meals, we had baked potatoes and homemade hushpuppies. We ate everything! For a restaurant with a massive dining room, you might expect to be lost in the crowd. Top of the River is your classic type of seafood restaurant that's going to have the same menu no matter what. The food is always good, as well as the portion sizes. I do wish that they would redo the menu and add more items. I also wish the owners would put some money into the restaurant and renovate all of them. They are very worn out... from the seating to the tables to the restrooms and the restaurant itself. You can just tell it past time to renovate. Other than that, it's a very consistent restaurant with good service and food. read more

In the middle of our conversation, a bus boy walked up and handed her a pink bouncy ball without saying a word. This was very strange and off putting... Our server was good, but her accent was very strong and I couldn't understand much of what she was saying. However she was quick with our food and made sure we had everything we needed. The friends that we met have eaten at the restaurant several times so we went along with their guidance on what to order. I ordered the catfish and we shared the collard greens, pickled onions and cornbread. I also had fries with my catfish. The catfish was okay. Maybe it was overcooked and to me it didn't have much flavor or seasoning. The fries were okay. The greens reminded me of glory greens, not bad. The pickled onions were a nice pairing with the greens. Overall, I thought the food was okay. If the opportunity to return, I may to try another menu item. read more

Drove down and had Sunday dinner here with the family. I'd never been to this location so I was excited to give it a try since it's located right off the river. There was no wait and we were immediately greeted and seated by the window as requested. We reviewed the menu and ordered greens and onion rings for apps. They provided complimentary cornbread, coleslaw and onions. The onion rings were big and crunchy, and the greens had lots of favor. I don't eat slaw but my family enjoyed it and the cornbread. I got the sampler plate (popcorn shrimp, fried shrimp, catfish filets, boiled shrimp, crab) and swapped the imitation crab for shrimp scampi. I opted for a baked potato as my side. Everything on my plate was so good! It was plenty of food especially after the apps. So I had lots to take home. They only had Tabasco hot sauce which is no-go for me when dealing with a southern restaurant that serves mainly fried food. (Where's Frank's, Texas Pete, Crystal or Louisiana?) I tasted the chicken fingers and they were shockingly very very good. Juicy and flavorful! I did not eat the crab because I do not find those types of food good but my mom did eat it and said it was not very good. The service is okay you have to flag down your waiters and ours did not come very often. You are right by a river. It looks like a swamp but is pretty! For some reason everything I ate tasted like dirty water including my water that is why after I took a sip, I ordered lemonade. I personally feel like that was me making me feel that way.
