I am active duty military & I let them know I was looking for help preparing for my military fitness exam. I paid in advance to get a total of two months of one on one sessions, I paid a total of $565 via Venmo. My first session was scheduled with Charles Ward, Jr. on Saturday July 10, but then he was in a car accident & cancelled that morning (he was unharmed by the accident). In trying to schedule my second session, it took over 24 hours to get a response. I immediately asked for a refund because I felt that the communication from Charles Ward, Jr. was unreliable & he stated "Pls I would love to work with you." My second session was scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, at 6 am. He cancelled at 4 am because his Uber was late & rescheduled for 6 pm that night. I was able to get trained that night at 6 pm for the first time. My third session was scheduled for Thursday, July 15, at 7 am. I showed up, no one was there. I went back in at 10 am, & was trained for the second time. My fourth session was scheduled for Saturday, July 17, at 7 am, I showed up, no one was there, Charles Ward, Jr. texted me at 9:30 am to tell me it was flooded - he did not apologize for missing our session or tell me if we would reschedule. I asked for a refund, & he told me his phone was stolen. He asked me to give him another chance. The last time I was supposed to be trained was Monday, July 19, at 5:30 am. I showed up, waited outside the locked gym, texted Charles Ward, Jr. at 5:45 am & 7 am. I have not heard back from him at all. I really wanted to believe he was a good person who just happened to be disorganized. Unfortunately, I believe he takes advantage of people & then cuts off communication. In total, I was trained twice - meaning each session cost me over $250. I have tried consistently, politely, & respectfully to get a refund from Charles Ward, Jr. I was only trained twice, & paid for services in the amount of $565. I told Charles Ward, Jr. just to keep the first month, I am only asking for a $250 refund for the second month. He has stopped replying to me all together. As an active duty service member and a medical school student, my pay is already very low. I trusted Elev8te & Charles Ward, Jr. with my money, & frankly feel that I was taken advantage of & am the victim of a scam. I am glad to see that others have had positive experiences, but I also read other reviews indicating that I am not the first young female Charles Ward, Jr. has taken advantage of. This has been a demeaning, stressful, & terrible experience. I would stay away from this gym. I have attached all of my conversations with Charles Ward, Jr. to this review as corroboration. I will update this review if I am ever contacted by Charles Ward, Jr. & if my money is returned to me. As of this post, he has refused to respond. I hope this never happens to anyone else.

I train with Shane each week and he truly is so knowledgeable in movement and kinesiology. He always explains the movement, what muscle/s to engage and is by your side watching to make sure you are doing things correctly while also helping to push you to new limits you never knew you were capable of. He has given me a plan and holds me accountable. It showed I lost 5" all around! Say what? Then we went up a notch and in a total of 4 months I lost 15lbs and 18" all around! Yes 18". Now my abs are POPPING! I'm also now wearing a size 2 jean--which I've never been in before. His program is a no nonsense, no fad or silly workout routine. It's a comprehensive program for anyone who is serious about weight loss and getting in shape. It's super simple. Seth is amazing to work with. He is very confident and knowledgeable. He can work through any issues with injury, diet, etc. He guides you through the workouts and encourages you along the way. The accountability alone made a huge difference and kept me consistent even when motivation dipped. And if anyone has an excuse, it's me--I have three kids, one with special needs, a job, and real life happening nonstop--yet this program was still realistic and doable. So, if you're someone who complains a lot (we used to allow dogs until today, but due to a few complaints, I can't bring in the dog I'm training for a rescue), or if you don't know how to wipe down equipment or, for some reason, decide to put white chalk all over plates and machines (seriously, why chalk on a cable machine?), it might be better for you to find a different gym, maybe an Esporta (LA Fitness), which might be more suited to complainers and those who leave a mess. I really hope we don't lose the unique vibe and energy of this place. I am starting to feel like I'm being pushed out of MY gym. ‍ PS. We had an amazing, fun and friendly "therapy" dog that use to come with one of the trainers and now thanks to the Karen's, it is no more. I will miss those friendly eyes and zoomies.

It looked similar to CrossFit to me. I'm so glad I pushed through that and gave it a shot. It ended up becoming my home gym and the place that fostered me regaining my strength and confidence. This place is always clean. The music is energizing. The workouts are programmed very well. Half the days are cardio, the other half resistance/weights. You get what you put in. But I can't get a better workout in 45 minutes anywhere else. Also, there is always a great stretch offered after class, which I don't recommend skipping! The coaches deserve their own very special acknowledgment. Management does a great job hiring qualified trainers, who also have great people skills. They always take the time to welcome you and do a great job explaining/offering a demo of the workout. And you can always count on them to keep an eye on your form and keep you motivated during the workout. This place is a gem in our community. I look forward to hitting 100 workouts! Long post alert! This is a note for folks of all ages,…read moreshapes, and fitness levels: So. I was the person who talked to countless gyms after my own gym closed without notice (Burst! Fitness). Prior to Burst! I was kind of a gym drifter. EOS, LA Fit, Planet Fit, Crunch Fit. I tried them all on for size. Didn't like them (nothing wrong with them, just didn't quite meet my needs). The search continued. I started deep-diving on the internet. There had to be an existing place out there that fit my needs right?? Over several months and consultations with private gyms in Tempe, Phoenix, and Scottsdale- Underground Fitness showed up on my radar. Leading up to my initial meeting with them, I was pretty deflated. Perfection is subjective- and I'd been looking for my version of a perfect fit for months and hadn't even come close. If I was going to join a gym at this point, I needed some convincing. But not in the typical gym-salesman pitch way. I needed to be bought-in. I needed to see the passion. The knowledge, the dedication, the practicing-what-you-preach. The ability to teach. I don't know maybe I'm a tough sell with unrealistic expectations *shrugs* My meeting went well. Ron was patient. I asked so many questions I made my own self tired. He didn't get tired. All of my reservations were addressed. I was satisfied. By the end of the meeting I could tell, this guy could seriously talk about this stuff all day. Passion: check. The program I selected felt like it would work with my schedule, the price was comfortable, and so far the customer service was on point. Ok...ok...willing to give these guys a chance. What's 9 weeks, am I right? That was in September 2019. It is now February 2020, 5 months later- I'm fully bought in. It did take some time to realize that this was the place for me, so I encourage readers of this review to keep that in mind. From my very beginning the team at Underground Fitness was communicative, invested in my success, flexible, creative, and believed in me more than I did. For those who I've worked with: Ron never blinked an eye when I needed to talk to him about absolutely anything at all (literally anything). Camille comes to my aide with worksheets, resources and meal ideas as I struggle with meeting my macros. She checks in on my off days, finger always on the pulse. She gently pushes me when I'm being a huge baby. She throws fun creative workouts our way, during which I can be observed smiling from ear to ear. They are so fun! The hour is over before I even know it! Daniel challenges every inch of air available in my lungs with creative circuits, helping me learn to use my body as an extension of myself. Teaching me how to stay grounded in my workouts (I can be super ADD). Each of them keeping a critical eye on form and technique. They are patient when I am low energy and have a sad workout. They are excited for me when I make progress. Even though these team members have spent years learning the fitness do's and don'ts for themselves, I never feel anything but encouraged when demonstrating my own lack of knowledge in nutrition and physiology. I can't tell you how many times I got talked off of the cliffs I put myself on. Active listening here folks! I haven't been at Bodi since the beginning but I have been a member for over 5 years and I definitely love that place! There are multiple options of classes that incorporate strength and cardio, yoga, heated mat Pilates and boxing (now Hyrox based class and straight lifting classes). They have expanded to 3 studios to offer all those classes, which is amazing! There's always a variety of exercises to hit the main muscles groups and the accessory muscle groups. The recovery room is super convenient to use after a class or on a rest day. Variety of class times to meet a large range of schedules. They truly value their members and community and are constantly finding ways to benefit the members even more. It can always be a little intimidating trying a new gym or class but I think they do a great job at trying to make everyone feel welcome & it's generally easy to follow along if feeling lost during a workout. The coaches bring so much energy & fun to the classes as well. Bodi is very affordable in comparison to other gyms (especially if you catch one of their sales around holidays). Class pass is another great way to experience some bodi classes. Definitely worth it to try at least once!!

My only con so far is that, in my experience, the trainers haven't been very engaged with the class or offered much guidance on form. One of the things I love most about group fitness is when instructors hype up the room & shouting out members, offering motivation, or demoing the moves alongside the class instead of just in the beginning and I haven't really seen that yet. That said, the staff are all super friendly, the gym offers so much more than just strength training (which I'm excited to explore), and the playlists are a solid 10/10. If you're in Scottsdale or just want to try a new gym I highly recommend this one!
