If you want Desert Roses, this is the place to go. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the selection of plants is HUGE. Make a day of it because you won't be sorry. It's so much better to pick and choose exactly what you want than mail order plants. To be fair I have mail ordered from this place before and the plants were all well packaged and are thriving, I just prefer a more hands on approach. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they responded to an email I sent trying to figure out their availability between the two locations. I pieced together a wishlist of everything I was hoping to get during an in-person visit, and had to miss out on a huge sale they were holding because of terrible weather. I ended up sending my brother to collect all the growy things as part of a day trip he was planning in the area. The lady working was able to direct him to every line item (and the back ups just in case there were issues of availability) so he didn't have to wander lost for hours. Then I was in the neighborhood for something unrelated and stopped by in the last 15-20 minutes of the day to see the nursery in person. They do a great job at organization and the grounds overall were just really nice. The gent working (and his dog!) checked in and let us know he was closing up shop for the day. I just wanted to see it first hand. I'm glad I opted for the in person shopping though. While it would have been convenient to save a few hours of driving, getting to pick out your plant and not have to repot immediately after delivery made up for it. I'm sure there's cheaper options elsewhere, but these folks have a huge selection of unusual plants and the people working are very knowledgable. I'm still waiting for the grand Duke supreme to be propagated. They are very careful in making sure the plant is healthy enough to survive before they send it to you! Oh my goodness so many plants, so little space in the car to take them all home. I visited with plant-loving friends this morning to take advantage of their sale prices. Lordy, love those sales! And we were early enough to receive darling gift bags in appreciation for being early customers. Thank you so much for that! Was aiming for some yellow to pink/yellow desert roses to add to my collection and found some nice, healthy specimens. I've had very good luck with adeniums from this nursery, but feel like I do better picking them myself, rather than having them shipped. No shortage of worker bees there to answer questions and offer advice today. Such nice people! I've been coming here now for about 6 years or so and always discover something I'd never seen before. If you are looking for those one-off a kind, exotic nurseries, this is the place! Everything is laid out by groupings and on the website there is a map to guide you along. If you come across a plant that you aren't sure about, use the search feature on their website for detailed photos and care requirements. You can also use this feature for price lookup since not all items are marked. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful in locating what you need or what would work for you. A bonus is the beauty gardens on the back left. There is a great loyalty plan after the first purchase. This is not a typical Lowe's or Home Depot- if you want to oooh and aaah at the unusual, go here instead. Your yard will be the topic of conversation! One neighbor already commented that it was looking like an arboretum and I have just started my project! Yes the prices are slightly higher, but your plants are healthy, large, the bonus plan offsets this, and you will have a uniquely landscaped lawn with tons of curb appeal. We purchased two persimmon trees from top tropicals nursery, and when we receive them, one of them had several branches broken on it, and the leaves were dried out they crumbled in my hand, very poor shape, spoke to a gentleman named Tony and said that I should propagate it. I told him that's not what I purchased a tree for to propagate. They were not willing to work with us at all we are stuck with one of the trees, being 2 feet tall has no branches on one side and we paid good money for both of these trees Again they tried to convince us to keep the trees and would not work with us and from here on out, I would never ever do business with a company like that ever again, and I wouldn't recommend anybody to do business the only reason I gave them a one star it's because they answered the phone after the third time in our experience, they are a very poor company to do business with and the boxes from the shipping department were also not packaged correctly the box was halfway opened when we received it. That's how poorly it was packaged . If anyone does business with this company, they're gonna need lots of luck. read more

Searched out this place for just its Hoya plant. I thought they had more different varieties but they carry mostly Hoya Kerri , Kerii variegated and H. publicalyx which they had currently in stock. The also had exotic fruit trees such as papaya, mango and even jackfruit! Great place to come and check out their inventories. Took a star of because I think it's a bit over priced. Coming out of here spending almost $200 for hoyas . But I just love these rare tropical plants . They're hard to find thus its price high. read more

Top Tropicals has excellent customer service! I had ordered several plants online, along with soil and fertilizer; however, whomever had shipped it had given the plants a bit too much loving (water) and these plants were not water-loving plants. When I contacted them about that, they promptly got back to me and refunded my full order which was above and beyond what I was even asking for. Also, when I had thought they hadn't responded to me (which they had but I had missed it) and I got a bit snooty about it, they were super polite and quick to try to contact me through other venues (I'm sorry y'all). A very interesting nursery business well off the beaten path. We were looking for a specific plant/bush (Dumbaya) and they had them in spades! The staff was incredibly accommodating friendly and knowledgeable. The guy who helped me went through all of the nuances associated with this particular plant and confirmed my research. He helped with loading my car and away I went. This place does most of their business online and ships nationwide and to many countries. However they do walk-in retail and are glad to see people. I ordered a cactus for a gift. It was the most beat up plant I have ever received. There were holes in the leaves, leaves were missing chunks, and part was totally broken off. I understand it can be damaged during shipping, but holes in leaves and chunks missing isn't shipping damage. Completely disappointed. read more

Bought a June Plum and Cashew that they shipped to me in CA. Both of these plants show a warning that they don't do well in shipping and they cannot guarantee long term health of the plants. Both the plants died in less than a month despite following all care suggestions. Their website also has same warning for Lychee. Fortunately, I bought them from another online store along with 3 other tropical fruit trees and they all survived and thriving. Don't buy plant from Top Tropical hoping that your plant has 50-50 chance of surviving. When you are accepting their disclaimer, you are accepting 100% guarantee that your plants will die. We've patronized this niche nursery for several years and while the inventory is up and down, we would give it four or five stars if not for the staff -- or one staff. This Father's Day we went to several garden centers. All were short-staffed, but the one-man show at Top Tropicals was so dismissive and rude that we shrugged and left. We had looked around happily for 40 minutes, but when finally asked, "Do you have a question," we received a brush-off that really stung. The man couldn't be bothered to come to look at the unidentified plant or even to come over to us and speak face to face. "It's on the web," he said from a few aisles away. (eg look it up yourself I can't be bothered). We didn't have our phones. "My phone is dying," he said. (eg I can't help you). "What do you want to know?" (annoyed tone) "I can tell you it's from Malaysia and likes shade." (turns away ). As we were leaving he hurried after us, not to apologize but to whine, "I'm the only one here." Every other staffer was alone at the garden centers we went to afterward and all were wonderful to work with. "I love this place," the man said before giving us a sardonic 'Have a nice day.' Buyer beware... a $50 tree was posted online with a picture is showing a four foot tree in a 3 gallon container. It specifically states "Picture of Actual Tree". The tree I received was an 11 inch twig. When I emailed to inquire and ask for some sort of price compensation, the reply was that the picture was taken in 2007. I replied that the date the picture was taken is irrelevant. If they are posting a four foot tree I expected to receive a four foot tree. Again, the reply was that they specifically stated a small tree. Back and forth went nowhere and the response was that I could ship it back (go figure out how to pack up and ship a tree). If they received the tree in good condition, only then would they reimburse me. Deceptive sales; do not expect to receive what you order. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Top Tropicals this weekend with my husband and two new plant crazy friends. However, my story with Top Tropicals starts about 2 weeks before. About three years back I saw a YouTube video about a fruit that tastes like peanut butter. Like any other human being on the planet, I was intrigued. I looked EVERYWHERE for the tree that produces this fruit. I had almost given up my search when I came across the Top Tropicals website. They had a detailed write-up about Bunchosia armeniaca but did not have it in stock. However, the Top Tropicals website has a great feature where you give them your email address and they will let you know when the plants you want are in stock. About two weeks after submitting my information to Top Tropicals for the Peanut Butter Fruit Tree, I got an email letting me know they were in stock. WOO HOO! Needless to say, I was wicked excited; so much so that I immediately contacted Top Tropicals via Facebook to see about buying the tree. I had so many questions for their social media manager that I started to feel bad. Questions about different plants, trees, and seeds they carry. I messaged back-and-forth with them on Facebook for two weeks before deciding to visit the nursery. I was offered discount codes and tons of information about availability and growth habits of the things I wanted to buy. They have such an amazing and attentive social media presence for a small business. On the day we went to the nursery I was greeted by Anna who was a HUGE help when getting the things I came for. Their online system combined with the number locations for each plant made it super easy for me to find exactly what I drove 2.5 hours to buy. What I couldn't find (specialty items), Anna (Banana ) and Kristi located for me. I was able to not only get everything I came for, but I bought a few other oddball and hard-to-find treasures. Point of interest: One of the main reasons we decided to visit in person was because they were having a 25% off special! We saved so much money that we were able to buy even more plants! All-in-all, I would say this was an amazing experience. While not everyone can visit the nursery, if you are somewhat local, I highly recommend taking the time to stop by. Top Tropicals makes what is a nerve racking decision to buy online rare living plants/trees SUPER EASY and VERY pleasant. Unfortunately (for rational people) these couple negative reviews deter good people for no good reason, they almost deterred me. I am sure it's because they don't know how to transition and harden off items properly before they plant it in its permanent space; so they wrongly pass the blame. Top Tropicals has went out of their way to make it a complete breeze to have very healthy and beautiful, but most importantly to me ...the named grafted variety of unique Tropical/Sub-Tropical fruit trees I wanted...shipped in to California as easy as it get. To top it off I rarely even see the any symptoms of transport/transplant shock. Shipping cost are super fair and it's QUICK (2-3Days). Personally over the passed two growing seasons have made more than 6 orders I'm sure...which surely exceed $2,000 (shhhhh...don't tell my wife) and have only had one challenge which was clearly the agricultural inspector in California who broke a Orange Sherbet Mango tree during his inspection!!! The way Top Tropicals ships stuff is very secure and well packed ... it was obvious and literally impossible how it was broken other than by the Agricultural inspection here in CA! To my delight "Kristi" at Top Tropicals made up for a problem (which clearly wasn't their fault) by replacing the damaged item. She's super friendly and helpful, ask for "Kristi" if you like, you won't be disappointed. (I always do) Do yourself a favor and don't put much weight in the couple negative reviews if you can understand the following ....know to properly handle and replant items which just took a journey and understand a cozy partial/most shady location for the short period after is your friend and transition to full sun gradually. Next, they do their job preparing for the journey by packaging very well BUT when FedEx takes over its ultimately, like any shipment, they need to be responsible for safe handling of the packages. read more

Good stock but consistently way over priced vs good local nurseries, Loews, etc., as much as 2-3x. Products are also always notably UNDER SIZED relative to these sources ( eg. Mango twig with 5 leaves, pink ixora 3-4" tall in a 6" pot, etc.). Request for satisfaction regarding substandard specimens was met with s curt brush off. Good source for plant info if you can tolerate the goofy photos they also push. Find another source for plants!! read more

First off I want to say that this place is a beautiful nursery with tons of beautiful plants and the staff is very nice but the plant I bought is not what it's labeled as. I'm guessing there may have been a accident were someone accidentally labeled the wrong plants because the plant I have is not even the same kind of plant in the photos that is on the website. The photos on the website looks very much like a Psychotria Viridis and very different from the one that was sold to me. I've been mail ordering plants from Top Tropicals for a few years. I'm a fan. So if you want to get started with mail ordering to the west coast, here's what you should expect: -Inventory changes a lot based on the time of year. Get it while it is in stock or sign up for notification when it comes back in stock. It may not though. Oddly, I've seen those same plants that they stopped carrying end up over on Plant-o-Gram. I wonder if they share similar suppliers? -For us west coast folks, sometimes things come into stock when it's probably not a good time to plant them but you might want to snag them at that time and just keep them in pots for a while because they may not be in when you want them. Yep, some of us are pushing the plants limits in our planting zone so this is why. -Shipping is usually the following week, sent out Monday (and on the west coast) arriving on about Thursday. That's my experience, can't guarantee that for everyone. They do send out shipping notifications with tracking information which is a huge bonus so you can know when to be there to receive your shipment. -Watch for new varieties listed and sales. -Sign up for their newsletters for coupon codes. Yes shipping is expensive but the coupon takes a bite out of that cost and they package everything really well. -Plants are usually really healthy. A few have looked kind of twiggy when they got here but rebounded just fine after yard acclimation and transplanting. -Their website reads like an encyclopedia of tropical plants. Keep in mind that they don't carry every sub-varietal out there. Know exactly what you want and order it from who has it. I love that it has a very easy key for understanding height, watering requirements, etc. I prefer to support local nurseries but Top Tropicals does carry items that I can't always find out here or maybe I'm not up for the wild goose chase of tracking them down at the exact moment that they have them in stock. read more

The place may be worth visiting in person but ordering online is a Bad Idea. Don't do it. It starts with the website which looks like someone hand coded it back in 2000 and it has not been touched since. At any rate, I ordered a lipstick palm. $50 + same price for shipping. Whatever, frivolous purchase, plant shipped from FL to CA, will not complain. Two stems arrived in the pot, one already dead and cut short, and the other already drying (dRying), leaves pale green (and the plant is much smaller than the images on the website). I had singularly unfruitful email exchanges about this with a lady named Anna, who may be a nice person but speaks so little English that she simply did not understand my questions and eventually I had to call the place to discuss the case, specifically requesting someone other than Anna. The person could not explain satisfactorily why there was a second, already dead, stem in the same pot but she assured me that the other plant will revive itself. The plant did not know this and it died fully, without ever showing signs of any growth. Not a millimeter. I sent a message to them explaining this and asked for a refund or another plant. Anna responded, at which point I knew I had a lost case. I was informed that the plant "suffocated" because "you placed the plant, which came inside a pot into another pot and added soil between 2 pots. By doing so, your plant did not have the proper air circulation, water drainage to recover from shipping" (that is not what happened). She further informed me that I "received a healthy plant" and that he "main stack" of my plant was healthy. "A second dried up due to shipping stress which is normal". Since I received "a second" already cut short, what Anna seems to be telling me that someone at UPS must have unpacked the plant, helpfully cut off the second "stack" (stem?) which had dried up due to shipping stress as expected, then repacked it. Of course, this is madness. Anyway, I can blame only myself for this foolishness but if I can deter a few others from buying expensive sensitive plans form this outfit online, I have not wasted half an hour with writing this note read more

If you want sickly plants with fungus and diseases and/or want barely rooted plants , go ahead and waste your money with them. I placed several orders with them and every time, the shipment got worse and worse. Plants dropping all leaves and eventually dying. They also send you inferior plants to what they do advertise, Read Kim W.'s review below. I experienced excatly the same thing. I Do Not like sponsoring companies, but you would be better off buying at the big box stores, at least they carry a 6 month, 1 year warranty. read more

Love Top Tropicals!!! I've been a long time customer since I lived on Maui before 2012, I orders plants from TT and they were so healthy when they arrived! Not any sign of stress at all.. I now live in the SW Florida area and visit the nursery often. I sort out rare edible plants, especially ones from SE Asia, since I'm a chef/environmentalist.. they have such a huge selection, I have always been able to fulfill my wishlist!!! I honestly don't think I ever left an actual review for anything in my life, I actually went through the process of signing up to post this with no intention of using the account again. I think my experience might have been a 2.5 but I am leaving a 1 because there is no way I can suggest this place to anyone. We will ignore how Fedex destroyed the package that had Fragile all over it. So lets get started then. I ordered 6 trees and I live in Tallahassee Florida, so maybe 6 hours away if you drive slow. It took 6 full days from pick up to delivery for me to get and I am assuming the plants were boxed 7-8 days total. Shipping is mostly Fedex problem but Top Tropicals' poor shipping policies caused it to be 6 days. On top of that all 6 trees were literally thrown into one box. Have you watched the video about how they pack their plants? Well I got the exact 100% opposite of what they showed. Clearly there was no care involved, all kinds of branches were ripped apart, every single tree defoliated 90-100%, and 5 of the 6 trees were on the brink of death. The root balls, if you can call them that (each tree barely had any roots at all, it is a miracle they were even alive before shipment), quickly wrapped in bags, dirt spilling out into the box, and they even said F@c$ it with some of them and shipped them still in the pot. The very expensive mango tree I bought has been fighting so hard these last weeks and might end up being okay MIGHT. I have blades of grass thicker than the trunk of this 100+ dollar tree. It is standing about 4 ft right now and seemed to have been chopped before thrown in the box. 4 of the trees are finally making a turn for the better, standing by to see if they make it to a safe "not gonna die" zone. I just threw one tree away because it began rotting and literally smelled like a rotting corpse. It never leafed again after being sentenced to death in the box. Thankfully Top Tropicals return policy is great! something like 24 hours to return but also say dropped leafs will come back! -thumbs up guys- Save your money and buy from somewhere else. I just bought some Plumerias from Home Depot for 15$ cheaper and guess what? They're alive guaranteed!!! I will not be wasting anymore money there and have already told my people not to order from there after hyping up their exotic plants. One final note, their shipping was like 50-60 bucks for my order, thanks.. totally worth paying that much for a 5 hour drive taking 6 days to end up getting crap quality plants... read more
