From Trauma to Triumph! Our family has a 9 and a half year old French Bulldog named Coco. In 2018 Coco had a spinal surgery due to IVDD and it was highly successful. However recently she was experiencing pain, as a dog mom of course I panicked and of course it was a Sunday. We had to go to an Emergency Vet outside of Ventura and after hours of waiting and crying, the vet gave us the devastating news that Coco had another spinal intrusion and would need surgery, and if we elected to not have the surgery to make plans to put her down. My husband made the arrangements for in home euthanasia and we were overcome with grief and despair, my husband encouraged me to seek a second opinion and I am so GRATEFUL we did. From the moment Kendall answered the phone we were met with the most compassionate and understanding intake questions, now mind you I called the two vets closer to our house first (one her now former vet) and was dismissed with no regard to the fragile state I was in. I understand if they did not have availability, but the lack of empathy was hard to endure. Kendall was patient and allowed me the space to cry and then assured me she would get us in that morning, which she absolutely did. Dr. Waikhart was sincere and encouraging. She felt Coco had the potential to regain her ability to walk and live a happy, albeit less active life once her pain and swelling were managed through medication. There was a window of time I was not so sure, Coco was still presenting with signs of pain and I was a wreck. After a recheck with the Dr and an adjustment in her medication doses, I am over the moon to say Coco is doing well. Dr. Waikhart spent a lot of time during or office visits acting as somewhat of a therapist to me, her understanding and empathy are heartwarming and her positivity and encouragement got us here today. Everyone we have encountered whether it be someone calling in to check on Coco, or refilling our prescriptions when I clearly should have called them in sooner, each and every employee has been so pleasant and professional. We bought Coco a doggie stroller to aid her shorter walks, but she's still with us and our whole family has been relishing in this time. Loving her, cuddling, just soaking it all in. We followed Dr. Waikhart from montecito pet hospital because she genuinely cares about her patients and owners. She always goes above and beyond and she's definitely worth the commute from Santa Barbara to Ojai. Dr Waikhart and her staff also go above and beyond. When Dr Waikhart says she'll follow up with results, she follows through so you're not worried and thinking the worst. Kendall usually took our small one in to get shots and such and when we came in one day, she asked about Kal-El, which surprised us because even though they have lots of customers, they still remembered our pup. This clinic is also cheaper than our previous vet. When we came here to do a follow up after an emergency visit, Dr Waikhart was open and honest about our pups results and told us she went though all the scenarios and if we want to get tests we can for reassurance but she wouldn't be able to fix him (some vets would recommend tests so they can get more $). She didnt push for us to put our pup down but brought it up and let us decide. She also informed us she usually give them chocolate before they do the euthanasia (the forbidden food), which inspired us to have a day to give our pup the stuff he never got, table food, desserts, etc. If we didn't out our pup down, we wouldn't have gotten to have the last day for our pup and I don't think he would have made it past a couple days. Dr Waikhart is the type of vet who you can tell loves what she does and she probably treats her staff well because they seem happy and also provide great service. They also do themed pet photos for $5! read more

Dr. Waikart is just amazing. I have a lot of experience over the years with veterinarians, I was even married to one! I brought my elderly dog, Dee Dee, in to see Dr. Waikart just this morning. She was incredibly kind with Dee Dee and spent a lot of time with me recommending treatments. I have never had a vet before that spends so much time and explains the situation with such clarity and compassion. Not all vets seems to actually be animal lovers, but I can see clearly that Dr. Weikart loves all animals and has a huge heart. She also clearly cares about the owners. Honestly, I was blown away by what a positive experience I had with Dr. Waikart. I feel so pleased to have met her and have her as Dee Dee's veterinarian going forward. read more

Dr Weikart and her team are extraordinary, and I highly recommend this vet office. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats that are seen- they are well loved and cared for. One dog was very sick and they were able to determine that it was a super rare disease that was also presenting abnormally- they got him treatment and immediately he was cured. I've forever grateful because that critical thinking and knowledge base saved his life. I don't think most vets have that ability and expertise. I'm highly impressed. I am dissapointed. I have never recieved the results of my cat's blood test. Since then, I have asked twice and the only response on the second ask is to get a link to the Vet's portal app. Guess what? I dont want yet another darn APP ! I dont see why it is too much effort to actually attend to this. I read all the positve reviews and yet my experience is different. There have been other small 'mistakes' as well and Im always put on hold when I call. It seems to me that they are justy too darn busy to do the job! Our Boxer, Harley, was diagnosed with a Mast Cell tumor in 2021 and needed surgery to remove it. The only hospital locally equipped to handle it at that time was AVS. While they did an excellent job, it was expensive. Unfortunately she developed a second tumor about a year later. At that time, our veterinarian told us about a medicine called Stelfonta that didn't require surgery. She applied the medicine on the tumor and a subsequent tumor she found and Harley was cancer free a month later. Dr. Mary Ashley Waikart at Topa Mountain Animal Hospital treated all of us with the utmost respect and professionalism. We couldn't be any happier with the outcome especially since Harley is a bit of a stressor and it's tough on her to have surgery. Dr. Waikart and her staff are incredible and really care about our pets. I do not hesitate to recommend them and continue to use them even though we live in Santa Barbara. They're worth the trip!
