No trip to Tulsa is complete without a visit to Topeca. And I don't even drink coffee. This is one of my two favorite places to just kick back with a cup of tea and relax. This one is downtown in one of the old high rise buildings. I've never had the coffee (never touch the stuff) but I'm told it's good. The tea is fine and the food is good. Visited Topeca Coffee on a recent visit to Tulsa with the family. We were going to be seeing a show at the Performing Arts Center a few blocks away and decided to arrive downtown early to locate a local coffee shop to try. First and foremost, the coffee was quite good. We both got a Latte that was quite delicious. My wife had originally wanted a Macchiato, but, the barista let us know that they only served traditional Macchiatos, which are the really small drinks. I can appreciate a traditional drink, but, sometimes I want a big cup o' caffeine. We both appreciated the clarification from the barista ahead of the order. It helped us make the decision we didn't regret. Speaking of baristas. In the limited interactions we had, they were very nice and helpful. Can't say much here as I didn't have more than a really brief interaction with them. The building they are located in is beautiful on the inside. While we didn't have enough time to really linger, we were able to go out in the corridor and observe the ornate architecture. I believe they have architectural tours of the downtown area that start in this building. Something to consider next time we visit. The only downside to the place was that it was a really tight fit. We had our kid with us in her stroller since we were walking around downtown and trying to maneuver the tight space with a stroller and get ourselves to the counter to pay and then turned around proved to be a small challenge. Nothing to really ding the place, but, would have been nice to know ahead of time. All in all, this place is great and I would totally go there again. read more

Wow, I really luck out in Oklahoma when it comes to great restaurants at the bottom of hotels. Topéca is no exception and I could not be more in love with this incredible coffee shop. This place is great in so many scenarios. Need a cool, creative place to get some work done? Check. Want to catch up with a friend over wonderful food and coffee? Check. Need to shove food in your face as fast as possible after a long travel day? Check. I love the long work table inside... I'll either sit there or snag a seat by the window. If you're trying to decide on lunch, don't get anything other than the chicken melt. Everything I've tried for breakfast is wonderful, too, and grab a pastry if you're in the mood for something sweet. Hotels are supposed to offer sub-par fare, by definition, because travelers are a tough crowd to please. Topéca may not have a direct business relationship with the Mayo hotel, but they're certainly joined by a doorway, and that was enough for me to anticipate Good, but not Great. I lower my expectations whenever I order anything from a hotel, actually. Every aspect of my experience here, from the latte to the herbal tea to the yogurt and fruit cup to the naughty by nature cinnamon roll was fantastic, especially with the soundtrack that morning: a virtual flash flood struck Tulsa, it was a wild ride to watch, comfortably tap tap tapping my laptop (free wi-fi). I heard the beans were sourced from one estate and the café was family-owned; I got that impression from the service, as well, so friendly. My cup was honestly rewarding, complex and delicate. Again, the cinnamon roll was sort of inter-planetary, there was way too much icing on that mother (I ate it all up) and the best part was the roll itself, which was very dense, something more likely to come from a European bakery than Duncan Donuts. Nevertheless I've had a number of serviceable cups over the years at Topeca. I like their vibe. I even had a decent pourover last week. For taste of the core product, I am spoiled & it really isn't a fair fight. In terms of selecting/ roasting the beans on site/ profile of the beans selected--DS has my number. Like at most shops, I taste too much smoke & char, and not enough chocolate & floral from their beans. But on the whole, this place has a decent overall assortment. Baked goods are solid (blondie FTW!). Have a good assortment of breakfast: quiches, pastries, oatmeal); and tons of lunch choices: soup-salad-sammies-and *SUSHI.* There's probably a joke in there, akin to the gas-station-sushi reference: but this ain't QT sushi--it's from Yokozuna! Topeca illustrates how blessed we young(er) professional-types are. When it opened its doors ~ 5 yrs ago, the BOK Ctr was in its early years, and downtown turned into a ghost-town promptly at 5:00 each weekday evening. Since, we've had bustling events/ reopening of the mayo/ a bunch of Justin Thompson restaurants picking up the game of downtown dining/ a cooler vibe throughout the area. My company is housed in the Philcade building, where Topeca is located. A few months ago, I had a meeting facilitator come in from out of town, who needed breakfast for 20 ppl in less than 30 minutes. I had been to Topeca and LOVED their pastries and coffee, so I called them. Not only did they accommodate my needs, they went OVERBOARD- providing me with very nice serving platters, really EVERYTHING I needed. They saved me-I was already very busy with meeting preparations- I was able to leave EVERYTHING to them, and they did a fantastic job! EVERYONE raved about the wonderful pastries-fresh from the oven, OJ, Milk was fresh and very cold and the coffee was absolutely fantastic! I really like the location of this coffee house. It is right next door to the Mayo hotel and spitting distance of the BOK center. Topeca does have yummy coffee, but what I enjoy is the tea blends. I normally order an earl grey latte. Sometimes I can taste a hint of lavender... mmmm! They always make these to perfection and just how I order them. I also get warm fuzzies when I see all of the baked goods. Holy crap! So many choices and they never let me down on quality and taste. The only thing I would complain about is parking, but this is not their fault, necessarily. I also noticed there is an ATM located at the back of this coffee house. One of the best coffee shops I have ever been to regardless of city or country. I am a huge fan of just how meticulous they are about their coffee preparation. Thy have beans from all around the world and they are serious about answering questions pesky customers might have about their origin. In general I find the info interesting but not necessarily a difference maker for me. That comes from the taste and just how awesome every drink my friends and I have had here. The espresso is special, the chai latte's are fantastic, and regular lattes are what a couple of my friends rave about. Go ahead, try a dirty chai...seriously, stop reading this review, walk over to this coffee house and roaster, order a quiche with a dirty chai as well as a double shot on the side, sit in the corner on the little cozy couch and relax for a moment. This coffee shop is awesome! The drinks are delicious, well made, and reasonably priced. The avocado toast is fantastic. They use fresh ingredients and the staff cares about their creations. You can tell they want to provide high quality drinks and food to their customers. I called ahead before placing an online order to ask for a drink that wasn't on the menu and they made it for me- no problem. They even gave suggestions on how it could be made better. Whenever I visit here the guys behind the counter are nice and professional and happy. It's refreshing to walk into a coffee shop where the staff seems genuinely happy to be there. What a nice and cozy little coffee shop inside the Mayo Hotel Building. You can see the tapestry of the hotel through the window of the shop. The staff there was nice and greeted me with a smile when I came to order at the counter. The service was a bit slow, I must say, but I was very happy with my hot chai latte, which tasted amazing! so.. this place is one of my absolute favorites. I go to the Topeca in the Hyatt hotel downtown on the daily due to it's proximity to my office & its awesome coffee.. but they don't have lunch offerings. this location does.. and they're nothing short of amazing. I usually get the half curry chicken salad (always on point) with chicken noodle soup - apparently I'm into chicken. they also have Brie grilled cheese sandwiches which are to die for.. couple that with mouthwatering desserts like peanut butter chocolate chip cookies & perfect soy lattes and this place can't be beat. it also has an extremely comfortable vibe which makes it my kinda place - you can go here to meet with friends, read, etc. AND the staff is always grand. there ya have it, Topeca is DANG good. read more

Visiting from Kansas City, I try to support local as I travel. I'm really glad that we came here. We were the only customers in on a Friday night, super chill and cute aesthetic. After a weekend stay at The Mayo, we saw there was a Topeca coffee shop attached and decided to get a latte for our drive home. And I am very happy to say their mochas are fabulous.
