My dead ends frantically called out to the hairdresser who was looking around on the sidewalk. So I went in, found out they had an opening, and decided to tame the mane then and there. The salon is very simple and inviting. They had the door propped open so there was a good breeze and I got to do a lot of people watching. My hairdresser was an older lady with a thick accent - European? - and she was very sweet. She didn't force any conversation which made my inner introvert sag in relief. When she did talk, it was in a soothing mutter and I found myself laughing because she was so motherly and made me feel comfortable. She was not afraid to dig in and squat near my lap, crank my head to the side in interesting ways, and fuss over tiny hairs that defied her. She had her work cut out for her, because I arrived with a rain forest on my head, but she took charge and gently straightened out the chaos. She complimented my hair a bunch, too, which was nice. She made sure to cut my hair to my specifications, and was a perfectionist about making it look good. And she succeeded! She civilized my hair and took off half its weight. The cut cost me $37 which seemed very fair. She didn't try to sell me products or push me to schedule an appointment (you don't know just how much that impresses me, when business people don't do anything to try to get more of your money) but she didn't need to; I had such a good and relaxing time that I'm sure I'll be back.

I was getting prices and scheduling for salons in the area, and to get my hair cut last minute for an event I was attending. I couldn't find anything for that day or the next, so feeling defeated, I started making my way home. I passed Hair Decor, and they were open, so I walked in. I was greeted by Jane, one of the two hair dressers that work there. I asked her I needed to get in soon (this was maybe between 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 I think?) and she said, "Well, I have a hair dye coming in soon, so how's 1:30?" Sold. I warned her in advance that my hair is complicated, and she assured me that she was fine with it. The first appointment she took a lot of time to go over with me what I wanted. The cut came out exactly how I wanted it and the prices were reasonable. You can expect to pay anywhere from $25.00 to $35.00 for a haircut here (adult woman's) or $6.00 - $18.00 (children and men's), as opposed to spending up to $55.00 just one block down the street. I've been going to this hair dresser since May of last year, and I let no one else touch my hair. I always get compliments on how it comes out, and have never had to come back to have her fix anything. Jane is also a sweetheart. She works very well with kids, including "special needs" (I hate that term) children, and she cut my nephew's hair for his first hair cut. I always am baffled when she has openings the day I call for an appointment. I nominated her for hair dresser of the year for the Hippo, and would do that again in a heartbeat!

I called the salon/spa as soon as we hung up with his sister. The person that answered the phone said it was no issue and she was very kind. Unfortunately, later that evening we received an email stating we were no-shows and we were then charged $300 on our credit card. I called to speak to the owner on Monday. Instead of being, compassionate and kind she lectured me on how many visits I had to cancel in the past year. She agreed to the refund but inferred that I am not welcome back and also would not let-up on the cancellation history. We've been frequent guests at BVI over the years and even held our daughter's wedding shower there in 2024. It's disappointing that an experience at Luxe has now colored how I feel about the property as a whole, given how loyal we've been. Of the appointments I did need cancel for medical reasons (13 over the course of a year), my shortest notice was 9 days and longest was 108, averaging about 7 weeks. That's real time to fill those slots, not someone trying to hurt the business. Their cancellation policy states no less than 24 hours notice is required. I did well over that each time. I typically would book months in advance because securing the people I want and the dates/times I want is not easy if I wait too close to the dates/times I need. This causes me to have to adjust the appointments at times due to medical issues I was having at that time. I explained this to the owner, but she still was very aggressive and heartless.

I knew I needed to find a salon & stylist to be loyal to. I came across CCC & decided I would make a quick phone call to get an appointment. I spoke with Stephanie; she asked me some qualifying questions to match me with a stylist that would be the best fit. Typically, salons are booked on Saturdays (from some experience & other calls that I made), but given the nature of my request, she told me she would schedule me for a Saturday appointment at 9:00 AM with Elise. She ensured me that Elise is their "color expert" & is very familiar with treating thick, long, damaged hair. My initial feeling when entering the salon was WOW, this place is STUNNING. The decor & the front desk were so modern & updated. I love the light fixtures that they have when you enter & over some of the products for sale. For someone such as myself who is not very versed in this sort of thing (going to get my hair done & being pampered), I felt like I was in a very nice & upscaled environment. I had a lot of appreciation for whoever was in charge of the interior design (more of my department). I was greeted right away when I walked in. There were not a great deal of customers at that time, which I can't complain about considering I would rather have more of a one-on-one experience. Each stylist's chair was the same & had furniture-style cabinetry with granite countertops. Elise knew she had a project when she was told about my appointment. She was excited, however. My "project" took (3) hours to complete! But in that time, we had a lot of great conversation. She genuinely cared about me & getting to know me. She did an AMAZING job! After washing my hair with exceptional products, to adding highlights & lowlights to the exact color I was envisioning with organic dye, to explaining the whole process including the toner, she really took pride in reinventing my hair that needed help. She didn't even shame me for using box dye ;) The end result was drying & curling my hair. She also asked if she could take pictures to post on her Instagram which I agreed to. Believe me, the before & after pictures are a substantial improvement! I already have my next appointment booked & I cannot wait!! Sure, it's not cheap to have hair dyed & treated, but it is worth it. Thank you, Elise, for your hard work!
