I wrote this business off twenty plus years ago siting them as a ripoff. Today after purchasing what I was told was a new vacuum cleaner only six and a half months ago was told for the second time that "No, we will not look at your vacuum per it being a hazard to our safety per OSHA guidelines." It's a PET MAX VACUUM of course it's going to have pet debris from the floor in it! The shop staff snubbed their noses at me because not only was I upset and angry when I went into the shop feeling as if I spent $130. for a vacuum six and half months ago, but was looked down upon because the canister had maybe a handful or two handfuls of debris in it. After all, all of the take apart filters had just previously been cleaned and washed so my vacuum couldn't have been all that dirty. But I'm out now of $130. and will write this business off again, most likely permanently now for good. I can go to a department store and buy another vacuum and not be criticized for bringing them a "dirty" vacuum when that is what they claim their business to be. Not happy. I suggest you write them off too if I were you. read more

I took my Kirby vacuum cleaner in to have the brush and belt replaced. They bent the piece that the electrical cord wraps around and it fell off after a couple of months. I've had my Kirby for 24 years and love it. This place broke it. They use a powder that can only be stopped by replacing the bag. That's when I realized they don't use Kirby products and aren't an authorized dealer. The piece they broke is molded on and can't be fixed or replaced. Do not take your Kirby there. read more

Very upset with this establishment. I attended 2 classes and they were great. Unfortunately I decided to purchase another machine. The owner Greg Bank made me a great deal. He said that he would pick up my other machine as a trade in during a scheduled trip up to the Pennsylvania area. I put a 1000 dollars down to hold the machine back in November and nothing. Horrible customer service :( I purchased a vacuum and steamer from Tops on Manatee Avenue. A couple of years ago, I took the vacuum for maintenance, they had it for almost 3 weeks, I decided to stop in to see if it was ready. In line, ahead of me there were unhappy customers, as well as one on the phone- all appeared repair/maintenance related. The employee tried to return my vacuum, clearly untouched, and tried to charge me the maintenance charge. I ended up paying for a new filter since that is the only thing they could say they actully did. Gave them two more chances, one recently, because I like their vacuum bags. Never again; RUDE, CONDISENDING, ARE YOU ON METHAMPHETAMINES service. I just wanted a couple vacuum bags. read more

I took my 1992 Electrolux Diplomat there to see if they could repair the on/off switch. A very arrogant young man told me parts are no longer available. I asked even on line they are not available? He said if they were, they would not be able to put them in. I told him I bet I could find someone who would. I ordered the part on-line and found Choice Vacuum Repair in Sarasota on 17th Street to put it in. I took it on a Friday and they had it fixed on Monday. I went in the Bradenton store to have my Hoover floor scrubber repaired. After 3 weeks they told me that they didn't have it back yet since they sent it out. Then they called me and said they were waiting on an authorization from Hoover. I called back after another week they said they couldn't find it and asked me if I had picked it up, which I never did. They are incompetent and lied to me about how long it would take. They finally gave me another machine that was in an old box. I had already bought another one. Terrible service!!! read more

We do not recommend this business. We have given them the benefit of the doubt twice on purchases that failed after a year or less and now, the third item ( commercial tile steamer ) has failed after four months of home use....so, keep in mind, we bought a commercial grade steamer, for home use. We took it in and the best they could say is "Sorry, your warranty was denied...no charges, you can come pick up your steamer." Do not give these folks your hard earned money. I went to get the belt replaced free, ended up with a new agitator installed at a great price, when I got home the vacuum lacked suction. I saw the suction hose was disconnected at two places, repaired it myself and vacuumed three rooms again. Steve and Joe were pushing me to buy a new or used vacuum there or a complete service. Fix it yourself! Every small business in this area are constantly upselling. read more

Took a brand new sewing machine that we had bought 15 months ago from target to this store, cause we couldn't make it work at all! They confirmed it was broken right out of the box. We traded this broken machine in, for a new machine in which Tops offered a 10 year warranty, free sewing classes and complete product support, local and close!!! Thank you so much !!! Bought an Oreck tried it out at home but didn't like the new model. Went to return it and the manager said no refunds. I've bought every vacuum I owned from there over the last 20 years so has my mom and other family members. Over $150.00 TOPs lost a long term customer. Shame. Earlier on, we had bought a cheaper vaccum cleaner for our apartment which just did not get the job done properly and was of an inferior quality made in Asia. So we thought we go for an upscale product from Miele now, made in Germany. Definitely a lot more expensive than products one would get at electronic stores or superstores, but absolutely worth the price as they are durable and fit for all cleaning purposes. While Tops' store on Cortez Road in Bradenton FL is tiny, they specialize on vacuum cleaners and sewing machines only, and this shows.. The sales person was extremely knowledgeable and could explain each detail and the differences between the various Miele products. He was courteous, polite and did not try to talk us into a more expensive product that we don't need for our purposes. Extremely service-oriented, and the prices they offer are great, actually way better than one would perhaps expect from a comparatively small chain / store. If you are looking for good advice, service and prices for an upscale vacuum product (they feature various other brands, too, of course), I can whole-heartedly recommend this store. read more

I have been using TOPS [@ 30 years] for either Vacuum needs and/or sewing machine repairs. My machine is a New Home - 1968 version and they take good care of it. No pressure sales, manners used with customers - these guys make sure we understand the pros and cons, etc. They're keepers for me. read more

Good vacuums here at premium prices, so they are quick to throw in bags or discount accessories to sell the vacuums for full price. Then we brought in the Simplicity Freedom we paid $500+ for there and paid for a new fan to be installed. Was to be ready in 3-4 days. Never heard from them, called after a week and was told part was on back order. 3 wks later, no call, called them and told part still on back order. Asked for a time estimate and employee started yelling at me, telling me to talk to the person I originally spoke with and then hung up on me! A week later, they called and said they had 'stiffed' a customer whose vacuum had been there longer to get mine ready, trying to make me feel guilty I guess. So, over a month later I go in to pick it up and they bring one out that isn't mine, saying they are 'pretty sure' this is my vacuum. Further rooting around in back brought out my vacuum, then they tried to charge me for it though it was all paid in advance. Worst experience I've had with a business in quite awhile. Good store if you like paying hundreds for overpriced vacuums and then getting crappy service from employees with bad attitudes! read more

What an exceptional store. The staff is beyond knowledgeable, special kudos to Larry and Debbie, I started out needing a serger then a sewing machine a week later. They even beat beat website prices and offer as many FREE classes as I need to get comfortable with my new machines. Well needless to say when I needed a new vacuum a few months a later they were the only place place I went, I bought an Oreck checked later to see if price was as good as online (it was better) it has a 7 year warranty and they do a free servicing every year for 5 years. I also ended up with a Hahn steam mop and a Simplicity portable vacuum each time better pricing. To sum up they are better priced, have real sales people who really know all the products they sell and the ones they don't, there service is unbeatable, and you get to feel good about yourself for buying from a locally owned business instead of a big box store or an online store that offers nothing but maybe a good price. read more
