We've stayed at this motel many times over the past three years and have generally had positive experiences. However, our most recent visit was extremely disappointing and unsettling due to an encounter with the manager's husband, Joseph Griffin. Over the years, we've heard stories from others about Joseph being aggressive and hostile toward guests, but we had never experienced it firsthand -- until now. During this stay, I was in the room asleep with my 3-year-old while my husband walked to the nearby Dollar General. A friend of mine, who I didn't even know was stopping by, came up the outdoor stairs with her dog to knock on our door, unaware that pets aren't allowed upstairs. The manager, Nell Griffin, came out and politely let her know that dogs were not allowed on the upper level. My friend apologized and immediately began walking the dog back downstairs. That should have been the end of it -- but then Joseph came out and began yelling at her very aggressively. Her father, who was with her, tried to calm things down, but Joseph continued to escalate the situation. As they left, he took down their license plate number. Soon after, Joseph came up to our room, yelling that we were being evicted and charged a $350 cleaning fee -- despite the fact that no dog ever entered our room, and I was asleep the entire time with my child. My husband wasn't even on the property when it happened. We tried to calmly explain that we didn't know what was going on, but Joseph refused to listen and told us to leave with no refund. When my husband returned, he spoke with Nell, who was much more professional and understanding. After explaining the situation, she allowed us to stay. Still, the experience left me feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, especially being alone with my 3-year-old while my husband was away fishing. I wanted to speak to Nell about how upsetting the situation had been, but I didn't feel safe raising the issue further out of fear Joseph might escalate things again or involve the police. This entire situation was blown way out of proportion by Joseph, after Nell had already handled it respectfully. His behavior was aggressive, unnecessary, and unprofessional -- and it made us seriously question whether we'll return to a place we've stayed at loyally for years. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the property owners directly, either by phone or email, to discuss how this situation will be addressed and hopefully rectified. read more

These people or that man staffing the front desk on Sunday am August 17th is the worst hotel employee I have ever come across. We were loading up our car to leave, checkout time is 11am, and at 11:02 he told my fiancée that we were gonna be charged because we weren't out by 11am, the charge is ANOTHER WHOLE DAY, there were 2 other party's standing in line at the office, so for a 3 minute delay or less they made over $600.00 off decent hard working people!!!! Well I am not going to accept it, if they charged us for a day we weren't there thats forgery and we will take it from there! And NO ONE ever emphasized this, they did emphasized that the wifi password has a I in it not the number "1"... This was all up to the manager/owner discretion to charge a late check out fee or not and then they have the audacity to forge unapproved / unsigned charges on your credit card!!!! I highly recommend this wonderful motel to anyone traveling to the area. It was so remarkable clean, the beds were extra comfortable, parking was great, basically everything was great. When I checked in the people at the front desk were really nice and showed me all of the free things they offer like water, coffee and snacks. They has a cute pool? An area in the back with swings, a grill to use and it Ian per friendly. For the price I thought this was a steal. The kitchenette area was nice to have and I can't say enough about how wonderful the bed was. Loved it! read more

100% recommend. Left off the 5th star as it does not have the bougie amenities of the luxury hotels. But anybody visiting Sneads Ferry, NC and expecting bougie is probably going to be disappointed with life. We used to live in Sneads Ferry and were visiting friends and always wondered who ever stays at this tiny motel. We decided it would be us. We weren't sure what to expect as this inn has been here forever, but the room was quite nice; small, but well maintained and clean. Check in and check out were super easy. We walked every morning to get bagels at the best bagel shop and beach was less than a five minute drive away. This is our go to accomodation every time we come to Sneads Ferry for visits or Camp Lejeune for business. read more

While visiting my daughter in North Carolina, we decided to drive to Surf City beach for an overnight stay. All the motels on the island require a 2 night minimum. So, we opted for a motel on the mainland & I'm glad we did! Topsail Shores Inn is a cute, boutique motel not far from the north bridge of Topsail Island. The room are cute, the beds were comfortable & it was exceptionally clean. (Most important thing to me!). Each room has a small kitchenette with sink, microwave, small fridge, small coffeemaker. There is a room safe also. There is a pool which was sparking clean. The office has bottled water, coffee, donuts, etc complimentary to all guests. Oh, did I mention, it's PET FRIENDLY! ( Upcharge) Price was decent too. Close to grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacy, beach ware shops. We will definitely be staying here again! read more

My partner and I came down to visit my parents for my fathers birthday, an 80 year old veteran, that faught for the freedoms we have today. Upon arrival, I overheard the manager explaining to the customers in front of me, the policies pertaining to their stay, emphasizing no illegal drug use. Once it was my turn to check in, with no welcome invitation initiated, the manager IMMEDIATELY started the conversation with accusing my breath of smelling like weed! He then starts to tell me some weird, "back in the day" story about his nickname being "bloodhound" continuing to harass me. After check-in I started to unpack my car while the same creepy manager watched my every move. After looking at the reviews, I noticed several of these same stories of accusations and visitors being made to feel uncomfortable. This led to the decision, to find somewhere else to stay. NO REFUND WAS GIVEN even after explaining how uncomfortable the service was. Instead of making things right and apologizing for his rude conduct and false accusations, he expressed the owner would fully back him up. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It's obvious they have issues with drug use, by default accusing all their guest of use. This type of atttiude in hospitality, is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Topsail Shores Inn has been reported to the Better Business Bureau, as well as the local Onslow County Sheriff Department. read more

This hotel is so cute and so clean!!!!! The pool is awesome for the kids, I also LOVE how they have the handicapped seat by the pool to lower someone who's in a wheel chair into the pool. We literally booked another 2 nights & are surprising our grandparents (one is handicapped and wheel chair bound) just because of the cool pool feature! He will be so excited when he finds out he can go into the pool! This is our go to hotel now for sure, love it love it love it! read more

Not fair, they deserve the 6th star!! We just spent 2 nights at this lovely hotel. A smile when we checked in, to a smile on our last day. Accommodating you ask?? The best! I must say I just loved the room. From the water pressure to the complimentary snacks nothing but fantastic get-a-way. And if there is a small chance you forget something, not to worry. There is a Dollar General 20 paces from the hotel. FYI: Wine glasses are in the party favor aisle. Extra pillows on the bed, comfortable for a firm bed. Room was clean and spacious. I was surprised to find such an affordable place to stay during the summer months and one that was willing to book a room for only one night on the weekend! Most places insist on two nights on a weekend during the season. Right there, two stars! It's also clean as a whistle! Really, I have no complaints about the room at all. It's also spacious, has a nice little kitchenette, free water and coffee in the room and the same and snacks in the office. Nice! It only has one chair in the room, but considering the price and cleanliness we can work around that. Another star - okay, two more! We had a room on the second floor where they don't allow pets and I'm told they're a little bigger/nicer than the ones on the first floor. Nice not to have people walking overhead too. Note: There is no elevator, so have to walk up stairs if staying on the second floor. For the most part it was quiet nights's sleep, except in the early morning when the fishermen were filling their coolers and getting ready to head out for the day. The pool is a bit small, but again, for the price and all things considered, not a problem. There's a grassy area near the pool beside the parking lot that has the loudest frogs at night I've ever heard! Good little bagel shop right around the corner and a couple of gaudy souvenir shops, one with a giant shark whose mouth you have to walk through to get inside, which I confess, I had to stop at! If we were in the area again, we'd definitely stay here again! read more

Using the booking.com app, I wasn't expecting anything fantastic due to the low price. When I got there the manager at the front desk was funny and inviting. The room was spectacular with wainscoting and a beach theme. Outside, the cedar plank siding made the inn feel more like a beach cottage and the pool was immaculate. The king size bed was comfy, but I would've loved a plush comforter instead of a thin cover. This inn is only one mile from the beach and located in an area with shopping and a few restaurants. Overall the stay in North Topsail beach was fantastic! read more

A friend booked a room for me to stay in when I came to town. Gina Vilnitt, the general manager, wpuldnt let me check in at 2. Ok. Looking back on the website, check-in was three. Came back and, since my friend was local, wouldn't allow check in. When asked for the written policy she raged "I'm the general manager and I'm telling you". I don't understand this "local" bit, but it probably isn't legal which is why it isn't written down. Avoid this sketchy place if you want to be sure of a place to sleep. read more

We stopped on our road trip from St Petersburg, FL to Arlington, VA. I cannot rave more about our short visit. The bed was soooo confortable, the sheets smelled so clean and fresh. I always to a little sanitation routine when I stay in any lodging location. I felt confident that the individual cleaning that room had the same high standards. Topsail Shores Inn was recommended to us by a Sneads Ferry "local". We were thoroughly impressed from the moment we arrived ... super clean, reasonably priced and everyone working there is incredibly friendly and helpful. This will definitely be our go-to place when staying in the area. read more

Initially booked online without high expectations for a very reasonable Peak Season Rate=$99 plus Taxes. Only a couple miles away from N Topsail. Arrived at 7 after an extremely Hot day at Topsail to check in...upon further review, we had reserved the wrong Sunday! Ugh, Ann, our savior, was able to find us a room, with a King Size Bed, for the same rate. Thank you Ann. It would have been a miserable ride home. After securing the room, old school, we checked in to our room. Spacious and immaculately clean! No frills but quality. A-C worked like a champ all night keeping us comfortable on a steamy July night. They do have a pool, and we took advantage of immediately to rid ourselves of everything beachy. Small but gets the job done. All in all, great small town Inn, with a quality staff, good location, and very affordable rates. Look forward to our return. read more

When we pulled up I got a little worried due to the lackluster surroundings, but I will say the Topsail Shores Inn is a great place to stay! Check-in was easy and we never had trouble finding a parking spot. The room itself was very clean and I love that they provide complimentary water bottles and a snack. A small touch, but it goes a long way. The Inn is only around a five minute drive to the beach so really a great spot if you can't grab a beach front property. Since this is a dog friendly spot you will hear dogs barking at all hours. It wasn't too much of a bother though and I have a dog so I understand. The only thing I wish was different was if they put a light comforter or quilt on the bed. They had what seemed to be like two sheets and it just wasn't quite heavy enough to make me comfortable. I understand it's usually hot when people come here, but even just something a touch heavier would work. Overall my husband and I would definitely stay here again if we are in the area! Bonus, there is a bagel place right in the next plaza over! read more

Stayed here for a week. Room was SPOTLESS! The kitchenette offers a mini fridge, sink, cabinet, drawers, and microwave. I brought along my waffle maker from home and a griddle and was set for breakfast for the week! (Was trying to save money by not eating out for every meal) The only thing I have to complain about is the shower head. You can tell it's old by the way the water shoots out in different directions causing water to get all over the bathroom floor even with the shower liner. I had to point the shower head towards the wall of the shower to try and avoid getting water all over the floors. There's a brand new Dollar General that opened up next door that you can walk to to get food and other goods which was super convenient. Another plus was that the beach was literally just down the road and across a bridge. I would definitely stay here again. read more

I was a little skeptical when I first booked the my stay because I didn't know what to expect at all. But I was pleasantly surprised once I arrived. I had a very relaxing and quite stay at Topsail. The staff here is wonderful. Kenya (the receptionist) was very personable and caring. She accommodated me checking in early and my room was spotless. I stayed in a large single king bed room with a kitchenette. They had free water and granola bars in the room and more free snacks in the main office. I didn't hear any noise at night even though the hotel is right off of the main road to the beach. The pool was well kept and clean. I absolutely recommend this hotel; this is where I am staying next time for sure! read more

Stayed here while on vacation in Topsail Island. Being a few miles from the beach it saved us about $50 or more per night. Its only 2.5 mile drive from here to the nearest public beach area. The room was clean with a king bed that was comfortable. There is no stove or cook top so I don't consider that a kitchenette since you can not cook in the room, it does have a sink small microwave and a mini fridge and single serve coffee maker. Free in room Wi-Fi of course. Decent size pool, small play area for the kids and an area to walk the dog. Its on a main road thru the area, but there was no night time noise to speak of. Office offers a k-cup coffee maker, water, pastries, muffins and granola bars for breakfast starting at 7am. Where this place lost major points with us is we were down there on a FAMILY vacation, myself, wife, daughter, granddaughter and future son-in-law who has quite a few tattoos and we all noticed that because of this he seemed to be profiled as a trouble maker. After a long drive and unpacking we headed for the pool, he took a beer with him. If that's not allowed, no problem, but he could have been told in a nicer way especially when we head out to dinner few hours later there are at least 8 people in the pool all with some type of alcohol and 3 women drinking wine from wine glasses in front of a sign that said all glassware was prohibited in the pool area. The second night we went out to dinner, same thing, several women in the pool with wine glasses, drinking wine. That night when they returned from fishing, they were arranging the trunk of the car and this same older lady came out of the office and wanted to know what they were doing. This same older lady snapped at me the next day when I ask her to unlock my room safe. She was cleaning then pool and I ask her if she could unlock the safe "when she had the time" and she snapped back "You need it done right now?!!?" I repeated back to her no, when you have the time. It continued the next day, my future son-in-law was scolded for leaving our granddaughters bathing suit on the railing, then for leaving a cooler outside his room that was dripping a few drops of water to the sidewalk below. Would have hated for some one to get a few drops of water on them on a hot and very humid 90 degree day! Just nit picky type stuff that they said they had not had problems with at other hotels they have stayed at. Since this hotel is near a lot of military installations, I am sure they have had problems in the past, but you just can't automatically label some one a trouble maker based on the way they look or dress. This guy is college educated and has a good job and like I said we were down there on a FAMILY vacation. If it had not been for this, I would have rated this hotel a lot higher. I guess if you fit into a certain mold you won't be hassled otherwise they will watch you like a hawk and you will be scolded for every minor infraction. Reading reviews on other travel review sites, this is not the first time something like this has happened here. My daughter and her fiancé come down to Topsail Island at least twice a year and they said they will never stay at this hotel again and neither will we. The next time we come down with the family, we'll check out the new Hampton Inn opening just around the corner from here next spring. read more

This place is truly a diamond in the rough. It gives you a beachy tiki vibe the rooms are clean. I feel like the way it looks people can be a bit skeptical, I get it. I will say one negative, I think this place has no confidence in itself, it is a last resort hotel though it's not amazing the walls super thin every other place around the beach was sold out except this one but the people don't see its potential. Ok one more bad thing but I don't think it's there fault it's been raining I guess(im from out of town) there is a storm drain that's flooded and the rooms smell like sewer but the good reviews I been seeing I assume this is not an everyday thing so I say go for it don't hesitate you won't be disappointed this isn't the four seasons it's a place to sleep next to the beach and it's CLEAN!!!! read more

My only complaint is they didn't tell us the in-room DVD player needed a different remote that you have to get from the front desk so we spent 20 minutes messing with it. read more

I could give this place 100 stars just based on the friendly faces, customer service and employees that you can truly tell love their job. We stayed here for about 10 days with 3 kids and a dog while waiting for our house to be ready and they made our stay so comfortable! The room is not huge but it was clean, everything worked great and we never heard any outside noise from cars or people outside. Every day we were met with smiles and always asked if we needed anything. They worked around our schedule with housekeeping, sleeping kids and a dog. The water, snack and free coffee were such a nice bonus touch as well. Ohhh and the swings and picnic tables in the back were so amazing! Sorry I could keep going and going. Close drive to the beach cities like Surf City and Topsail Beach. Also, Camp Legeune, from the back entrance and Courthouse Bay! Owners are nice and accommodating! Love this place! My boyfriend is in the Marines and the base is right by the hotel so we stay there whenever I come up to visit. The staff is very nice and the rooms are very clean, with an affordable price. One time I made a reservation but I forgot about going to check in for our keys and I did not go to the hotel until later and that night and a woman in the office called me to tell me she left the key out for me because the office was closing. I could not believe it, you won't find a staff like that anywhere else. Strongly recommend this place and we will continue to stay there! read more

Stayed at the Topsail while we were looking for a house and had a wonderful experience. The staff was very nice and the inn provides nice snacks for the guests. Located a little off the beat and path but still overall a nice stay! We would definitely put our family up there! read more

I have been in the Sneeds Ferry area on several occasions and decided that the next time that I come this is where I would stay. I am usually a little suspect when it come to the way a picture looks on the web. The pictures represented the hotel well. The price was reasonable and the staff was courteous. Top Sail Inn is not trying to price gouge the customer. Rooms were very clean and spacious. I booked the room for three nights and do to the recent ice and snow storms, I was only able to stay two nights. I call the hotel and informed them that I was delayed do to the weather and the staff contacted me regarding my reservation changes.
