I wanted to continue supporting a local business, but unfortunately my most recent experience was very disappointing. I brought my car in for repairs and paid approximately $650. When I picked it up, I immediately noticed that my instrument cluster was no longer working. My speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and odometer display had all stopped working. Because I had a doctor's appointment, I had to leave with the vehicle and couldn't immediately return. When I brought the car back and explained that everything on the instrument cluster had been working before I brought it to the shop, I felt like my concerns were dismissed. Instead of looking into the issue, I was told that I was just trying to get something for free. That was frustrating and disrespectful, especially considering I had just paid hundreds of dollars for the repairs. I also discovered that my transmission was leaking after I got the car back. It was not leaking before I took it to the shop. I can even document this with photos of my driveway, which had no transmission fluid spots before the repair. Now it does. This wasn't my first issue. Years ago, I paid around $500 to have gasket leaks repaired on my 1986 Chevrolet Silverado. The leaks were never resolved, and I was told I would receive a refund. I returned multiple times to collect it, but it never happened. Even after that experience, I chose to give the shop another chance because I wanted to support the business. I understand that running an auto repair shop is difficult and that some customers may not always be honest. However, every customer should be judged based on their own actions. I have always tried to be respectful and pay for the work performed. Being accused of trying to get free labor after paying for repairs was disappointing. My advice is to thoroughly inspect your vehicle before leaving the shop. Check that everything works, including your gauges, dashboard, and for any fluid leaks, before driving away. My experience left me feeling that my business was not appreciated, and unfortunately I cannot recommend this shop based on what happened to me.

Well, thank goodness the old place is closed and I hope no one finds Ezra's new place…read more The story: So I wanted to sell my van and took it here for an inspection; pass or fail, I just wanted to see what to expect and be honest with a potential buyer. I figured the van was worth $1,600. Ezra said a friend would buy the van, and wanted to work on it there. I'm a trusting idiot so I said sure, but I'm not paying for any repairs. My mistake. Fast forward a couple months, lots of back and forth, meanwhile, my insurance has run out. The buyer has "disappeared" and Ezra wants to charge me $1,200 for work that "his friend" did. I go to confront him, he's not there, *his own mechanics told me that some of the work listed wasn't done*. They won't let me take the van, But get this: a few nights later, I'm out with my wife at the Iron Gate theater on 37th & Chestnut Street. We pull into a parking space, and lo and behold:*MY VAN IS PARKED IN FRONT OF US, ON THE STREET, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT AT 8:00 P.M., WITH NO INSURANCE* I take pictures and reluctantly go to the theater. I checked during intermission, Van is still there. At the end of the show, we wait. Around 10:00pm, one of Ezra's workers shows up; he was visiting his girlfriend. I make him call Ezra on his phone while I make a video of him and I talking to Ezra. Ezra refuses to discuss the matter. So I get the guy to drive my van to my house and I give him a ride home because I'm not a jerk. We end up just donating the van to NPR because I don't want to even see it again and I'm not going to pay for continued insurance and registration. Total loss and a waste of time. :-( A few weeks later I get a threatening letter from Ezra telling me that his lawyer will be in touch If I don't pay him $1,200. I wish. I would have liked to have wasted some of his money on having him hire a lawyer, but I ignored his letter and I never heard another word. Needless to say, avoid this scam artist like the plague. Let me say that I am a contractor, and I am on Yelp too. If you look me up, you will see that (at the time of this writing) I have over 70 (5-star) reviews. I was insulted and yelled at by the owner…read more I walked in to what I thought was REN's Auto on Baltimore, since that's what the signage says (even since REN's burned down a while ago, the signs are still up and I thought they had reopened.) I was informed that it is actually Ezra's now, they had moved in and taken over after leaving their Spruce St location, so I decided to stay and get my car inspected there anyway. They told me it would take a bit, and I said as long as I have it by closing time so I can get to an appointment in the morning, it's completely fine. A few hours go by and I get a phone call from an elderly man, Ezra, saying that my car failed inspection because I need new brake pads. He already sounded irritated, and also said that it would take several days to get it fixed as he had to order brake pads. I said no, it's ok and I would just come pick up my van. After a few minutes, I found an alternative way to my morning appointment, so I called back to tell him I can actually get the work done after all. He began yelling at me, saying he's "been doing this for 40 years" and I can send my husband (I dropped my car off alone and I'm not married) to look at the car and pick it up. He shouted that he had no interest in working with me because he doesn't like the way I talked, and to get the car and pay him by 4:30 because that's when they close, and he absolutely would not deal with me further. He angrily carried on for a minute, but as the insults rolled on I honestly stopped really hearing anything he was saying. I was absolutely floored by this experience. I was very upset at his sexist and aggressive attitude, and ended up actually sending someone else to pick up the car for me because I didn't want to see him face to face. I thought maybe a man would have better luck reasoning with Ezra since his remarks made it clear he valued my imaginary husband's opinions more. When my friend went in to pick up my car, Ezra had my car up on the lift with all the wheels off, saying he was doing the job anyway. My friend described him to me as very confused and angry, and Ezra actually yelled at my friend as well, in front of another waiting customer. For a bit, he apparently didn't seem to remember that he had told me he on the phone that he won't work with me and demanded that my car be picked up before closing time. He continued to yell at my friend and make him wait before putting my car back together. Another employee eventually gave my friend my keys, and said to take the car and not worry about paying for the inspection. My friend said this other mechanic seemed embarrassed and empathetic.

Recently my car was hitting bumps really hard and I took the car in to get looked at. I told them that I think its the rear struts but they insisted it was the tires so I replaced all the tires at their recommendation. After replacing the tires I thought the car was fine for a while until I got on the highway and heard a loud humming sound. I took the car back in to get looked at and they tell me that the sound is coming from the tires wearing uneven. Now im getting angry because I just replaced all the tires. He tells me that I have to REPLACE THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS to resolve it. I assumed that the new tires woul be covered by them for misdiagnosing the car in the first place. He tells me no the tires are not covered and on top of that they want another 243.00 just to flip my DAMAGED TIRES to make an attempt at reucing the tire damage. UNBELIEVABLE!! So not only do i have to buy shocks and struts that i suspected was the issue in the first place I have to pay for them to try and reduce the tire damage on my new tires. Needless to say I wont be going back but I hope this review helps others. I see there is another review of them doing the same thing to someone else. Damaged their engine and didnt take responsibility. They wanted to bill the customer for more work.

The cars have always been ready when they promise. Just as importantly, they're absolutely honest. Several times they have not charged for things that they could have. Their diagnoses have always accurate, not padded. I know enough about cars (I've done things like engine rebuilds, clutches, strut rebuilds) to know when I'm getting BS. They explain what needs to be done and offer to show why. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
