I brought in a newly-purchased 2014 Honda Odyssey minivan with 166K miles for a complete inspection and maintenance service. The quality of the car's maintenance to date was questionable. The KX staff did a thorough inspection and proposed a plan to bring the minivan to excellent mechanical condition (including some items that could wait several months, saving me immediate cost). I brought the car in about 10 days later (when the identified parts arrived at the shop). In two days, they KX staff completed an enormous amount of work as planned and the car runs great - feels like new! Not only the engine, but the non-opening left-side sliding door and the non-closing right-side sliding door. The integrity, expertise and competence as car mechanic professionals are outstanding. Book a couple of weeks early as demand for their excellent service outstrips supply, but well worth the wait. read more

After my dealership tried to scam me out of $4000 by refusing to pass my civic on inspection I brought my car to KX and they got me right. They've helped me several times with my car and they so clearly want the best for me. Even if it means I walk out only having paid $30 for some quick labor, they are honest and communicative! They used to be good couple years ago. Something changed over the last 1-2 years. Customer service became rude, upsell started for non-needed services, and so on. As a woman, I felt the need to put a review & I'll tell you why. First, let me make it clear, KX Auto is my only auto shop. I personally will take my car there & feel comfortable. This is for the women who are looking for an auto shop. I've been going to KX since 2018 or 2019, I can't remember. These guys have solid work ethic & provide quality service to my car. They've seen both mine & my husband's car & provide fair pricing. They're the only people I trust with our car now because they've helped me troubleshoot my oil issue & they're the only ones that know what to do. Since then, I'm stuck- love this auto shop. They're thorough, explain everything to me, they'll take pictures & send it to me to show me the issue, they've given me time to make a decision if it's a big fix, I'll even do my research & try to figure out what I'm saying & what I find is that they're honest too & if I have any questions they don't make me feel dumb because I'm a woman-- I've gone to places that have made me feel pretty uncomfortable. They have seen me move through life as a single to married woman. Despite me having my husband, if I dropped off the car they'll call me & provide updates/inquire what I want to do next. I don't know about you, but I want that. I feel respected in this small way that they treat me. I don't feel sterotyped or made out to be not as competent with my car. They'll communicate with me as they do with him. Super professional & I hope they never leave the Philadelphia area or be forced out of business. Parking can be hard because they're located on Washington Ave. There's construction & a new apartment is coming in so I don't know how that'll impact accessibility to them. But, I'm going to keep coming. This is the only auto shop I'd recommend & given other reviews, that means they get booked up & busy. So, if you need something serviced, regularly like an oil change or inspection, I'd schedule it out in advance. If you're in a bind, they'll try to work it out & help you. My only concern is that I dont know when these guys go on vacation. Honest concern because I want this auto shop around for a long time. If they scheduled a 2 week vacation I wouldn't be mad & just schedule my services before or after. This is how an auto shop should be. I should've written this years ago!! read more

I usually take my car to a spot in the suburbs my dad has used for years because it seems to be fairly priced despite being pretty inconvenient for me. However after bringing my car to KX for inspection two years in a row now, I don't see a valid reason for going back to the old spot. KX is also fairly priced, doesn't push a bunch of unnecessary repairs on me (I drive like 4k miles a year), and when it did need a repair, they took several pictures of the interior parts to show me why. I've been here countless times with small concerns about my car where they told me nothing was wrong, and probably saved me tons of money. They're the first person I call for any car things--even stuff non-auto related--as I actually trust them! One time he brought me back to see exactly what was happening with the brakes that my dad had previously fixed, so I'd know. They're always happy to explain things--100 stars. I couldn't say better things about this place. I've taken my car here just for inspection a couple times and they've never tried to force or convince me to get work done that I know isn't needed. This past time they noticed something that could be a problem at a later date, fully explained the whole thing to me, even showed me some pics and information online, and told me to let them know in the future if it ever does become an issue. I've been coming to KX for the past few years with two different cars. Prior coming to KX (cough cough Pep Boys), I've had very negative experiences bringing my cars to the shop, as far as mechanics ripping me off, assuming I don't know anything about cars, etc. At KX, whether it's an oil change, tire patch, state inspection, radiator replacement, or any other issue, you'll be treated with respect and you'll be walked through each issue and the course of action to fix it. When my radiator broke, they had me come in to the shop and showed me the actual damage to my radiator. I was impressed with this transparency. Whenever I bring my car in for an oil change, they'll give me a heads up on what's going on with my car as far as issues to keep on my radar. They are very upfront with estimates and timelines. Call ahead and they will fit you in as soon as possible! I don't see myself going anywhere else for car repairs and maintenance in Philly. KX has great customer service, upfront estimates and pricing, and explains all work being done in great detail! read more

Let me remind you I am a woman, in my 20's and I get treated like I am an idiot by mechanics a lot. What the mechanics don't know is that I am an engineer and I have a pretty good understanding of how cars work. I actually had my inspection done the first round at Mina Motors. I also mentioned to the mechanic that my AC wasn't working well. I was trying to tell the guy that I went to Pep Boys for the AC test and they told me I needed a new compressor ($1,000 +). The mechanic lit up a cigarette in the middle of me talking, looked absolutely uninterested and not attentive. When they finished the inspection, he told me two of my tires had worn treads and cannot pass inspection. I purchased the car a year prior with four brand new tires and drove maybe 200 miles total since then. So I definitely knew I didn't need new tires and he was trying to rip me off thinking I am an idiot who didn't know anything. So I just got the sticker for my emissions test and decided to look elsewhere. I saw the reviews on KX automotive on a similar case so I came to these guys. I walked into KX automotive, explained what happened, they called me when the inspection was done, and told me my tires were all new and fine, and I passed the inspection. For the AC, they told me I just needed two new rubber rings that are worn out and leaking coolant from the pipes, which were literally $2.50 each. I forget how much fixing my AC was but it was something stupid cheap cheap like $15-$25. They didn't charge me extra for "AC evaluation" for $60 like other places do. Since then I've only had really good experiences with these guys. A woman hit my car and broke my taillight and I called them up, which they know immediately when I call now who I am and what kind of car I have, and they told me they are busy right now but will call back later. They called back in a couple hours, and have called all the junk yards and dealers around the area for a cheap taillight but had no luck. I was so appreciate they were trying to save me money (even though it was not coming out of my pocket). I bought the taillight off ebay and went to them and they replaced the taillight for $20. When I ask them questions, they are always super respectful and most importantly, very knowledgeable! I can definitely tell they know what they are doing and it's not just a stab in the dark, like some other places. Like some bad reviews here, they might be too busy to take you, or open 30 minutes late then they advertise, but for me, reliability and honestly is the most important. I'll wait 30 minutes any day to save me thousands of dollars. read more

This is my first review of anything ever on Yelp, online, anywhere (because I never leave reviews). This shop is amazing. I was there once in the past year because a part of one of the battery terminals was broken, so my car needed to be jumped every time I started it. The mechanic was so communicative and creative with the solution. He ended up using a spare metal piece to bolt the terminal back into place. Because it wasn't an official part he had to buy, he didn't charge me anything. It's been almost a year later and my car has been running fine with no problems! I would recommend this shop to anyone. They ask if you are okay with what they want to do next every step of the way, and it really feels like they are honest because they try to save you money (and don't overcharge). Dealing with a tough situation with my car, I'm glad that this is the shop that I took my car to! I needed to get all four tires replaced plus some basic maintenance that resulted from the car sitting in one place for too long. I called KX and set up an appt to get the car towed there. I found that they were accommodating, attentive, and explained everything to me very well. Someone also backed into my front bumper, and they helped re-arrange some things to prevent further damage and provided me with info about body shops in the area. I genuinely felt that they weren't rushed when it came to assessing the car, and they weren't looking for minor things to increase the price of my repairs. Lastly, to my bad luck, the DAY after I picked the car up with 4 new tires, I somehow ended up with a flat. When I called in, I was able to bring the car back immediately. Within ~30 min, they called and said they found the puncture mark in the tire and repaired it free of charge. When I picked the keys up 15 min later, they even had a video to show me. I was so impressed with the thoughtful business here that I won't take my car anywhere else. read more

My old mechanic had closed their shop, so I went to a new one on Catherine St. Let's say there's a reason they have a cigar bar in their waiting room. They failed my state inspection and gave me an estimate for $850 to replace two hub assemblies, said my wheels were bent and that I HAD to do these repairs or I couldn't pass my inspection. While I'm not mechanically inclined, it seemed very suspicious (if the cigar bar hadn't tipped me off enough) and I took their estimate and found KX automotive. They have flexible hours, took the time to listen to my concerns, and reviewed the estimate that I had brought in. They went through their thought process and explained what the problem was in a non judgmental or condescending manner. After dropping the car off late afternoon, they called the next morning to confirm what repairs would be done along with an estimate price range. By mid afternoon they called to say the car was ready to pick up. They did another state inspection, changed the oil, replaced a wheel bearing, replaced both front rotors and brakes (hub assembly's were fine and wheels were not bent) for around $550 with tax. Best money I've spent in a while! Can't recommend them highly enough! read more

TL;DR: They don't do due diligence to tell you that you don't need to go through draconian state inspection laws for a sticker if you have driven less than 5000 miles before previous yearly inspection. Hence started my story of back and forth, and one unnecessary parking ticket for "expired inspection". -- I see all other reviews are positive, so unfortunately, I'll be the bad apple among the pool of pleased customers. Maybe there was miscommunication, but hey, yelp asked me for the rating! I left my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse for a vehicle inspection check to get my stickers. I got a call next morning stating I needed to take my car for a drive and come back when I had clocked 30 miles. The rationale was either removed battery or cleared codes. So I took my car and had driven for 20 mins and was on the other side of the city, when I got another call from them stating I need to give it a few days before I return. Also, I was told, my brake lights and front tires are worn out, and ultimately the state inspection is for vehicle safety. So why did you not tell me BEFORE I picked up my car, brother? Why allow me to drive away with bad brake lights. I went back after a few days after I had driven around a bit, and had already received a a $41 ticket for "expired vehicle inspection". Somehow I got bad vibes during our exchange, maybe I was not particularly friendly either at that point. So at the last minute I decided to withdraw and take it to a different garage because I felt _maybe_ my car would not get the care I expect. The garage I went to next told me it didn't matter if there was a code or the check engine light was on (if it came on), since I had driven less than 5000 miles (I had done 3300) and the state waives it. So here I am now, happy, with new inspection stickers, and a new favorite garage (not KX). I have a new pair of front tires, brake light, and a new thermostat (there was a minor leak that KX had not spotted, but I won't hold it against them). Apologies to KX if I wasn't your most reasonable customer, but neither were you the most reasonable business. We are cool, no hard feelings, but the rating must be added. read more

Bought a used car off craigslist which needed some work. Found this place on Yelp and gave them a try. They get busy so call ahead before bringing your car in. They were responsive and quick, and did not try to rip me off - replaced the timing belt at a fair price. The rear climate controls were not working, but that required a dealer part from Honda. They ordered it and kept me informed. Finally, they addressed a few minor issues without additional charge. As other reviewers have mentioned - they are very neat and clean. The waiting room and washroom are well maintained, and the work area is tidy. Conscientious lot they are. read more
