From my visit, we worked through the full omakase menu, which moved from lighter starters into a steady rhythm of nigiri. The chawan mushi was silky and warm, with a subtle ocean flavor. While it wasn't too heavy, it did lean a touch too salty for me. The young tuna sashimi was clean and slightly sweet and was a clean reset before the rest of the meal. Among the cooked bites, the kabocha dish with grated daikon sauce was one of my favorites and brought a soft, earthy contrast. The nigiri sequence was the highlight: clean, balanced rice with fish that tasted carefully sourced. The hirame was soft and mild, almost buttery in texture. The botan ebi was one of my favorites, sweet and almost creamy. The scallop from Hokkaido had a gentle sweetness with a pop of citrus from the yuzu pepper that made it feel really fresh. I also really enjoyed the miso soup based on prawn dashi, which was a good comforting pause near the middle of the nigiri course. Following that, the tuna progression was done well, starting lean with akami and building into chutoro, which had that richer, melt-in-your-mouth texture without feeling greasy. Side by side, you could definitely tell the difference between the two cuts. Other standouts were the uni and ikura course which leaned fully into briny, rich flavors, while the anago at the end was soft and lightly sweet with a delicate glaze that didn't overpower the eel. Also need to shoutout the tamago which had a custardy texture with a hint of caramelized sweetness that made it feel more like a dessert than a side. Service and pacing were both really smooth. Each piece came out at the right time, and nothing felt rushed or delayed. It is the kind of place where you can just settle in and focus on each bite. Overall, it felt like a thoughtful and well-executed omakase with a few memorable highlights.

They serve nine dishes which shows off the chef's skills in a wide variety of ways. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. It's a tiny but cozy sushi spot with maybe 4-5 tables at the end of a tiny section of maybe 3 shops, in a residential area. Our order was ready when we got there and I don't know they even were able to make all the food for our order! We're from California and I've never seen a sushi roll with sweet potato in it. It wasn't my favorite but it was interesting and food for vegans, I guess. It was part of the big party platter. The wait staff were super nice and Japanese from their accents, which I prefer getting Japanese food from Japanese shop owners and workers. They threw in complimentary edamame. Would probably be a regular there, if I lived nearby.

However, for the price point, there may be several other spots in Vancouver that may soon look to claim Masayoshi's spot for "best sushi" in Vancouver. Service was excellent, the place is small and cozy. A very good environment for a traditional omakase experience, although it was also somehow really warm in there. However, I don't know if I'll be back given the rise of so many new sushi spots that boast the same quality of produce at a much more attractive price.
