Overall: Loved Gyubee so much!!! Our server was Iris, so kind and very knowledgeable about the menu and super accommodating with whatever we were interested in and questions we had!!! FOOD: Food was so yummy! We got the lunch menu and we tried everything! I really loved the marinated beef options! I recommend doing the non-marinated meets first and then working to the marinated meets to not only preserve the grill (even though you can change them out) but with how heavy and more complex the flavors get, I believe thats my best route always! They had cold noodles, which comes in a small, single serving bowl. I loved having that first as an appetizer because it was so refreshing, especially on such a hot day! We also got the ssamjang and lettuce to accompany our meats, best choice ever!! The butter corn was super yum too, not too overwhelming or heavy! What we did was we finished the butter corn and added garlic, that you can get for free, and crisped it in there! Not only does it add flavor, but if you want to toast it, it wont fall through the grill! They also have a plum margarita which I tried and it was super yum! I think a lot of people won't go for this option, but as someone who always loved salted plums and likes to try new things, I did not regret choosing this over whatever other popular drinks they had. This is my fav underdog! For dessert, I had the dough sticks (which they put as an appetizer) and ate it with the vanilla ice cream they offer (one per person!). Such a yummy combination. For another dessert option, they have almond milk, which was also delicious! If you're not familiar with this dish, the consistency is a cross between pudding and jello, where it's soft and pillow-y but holds its shape however way you scoop it. The taste is subtle, slightly sweet, overall so good. 10/10 for this food experience! AMBIANCE: This is a place that you shouldn't feel pressured to dress too nice in. T-shirt and jeans kind of vibe! But the aesthetic of the establishment itself could totally warrant cute pictures in a more dress-y outfit! SERVICE: Shout-out Iris! This was our first stop in Canada on the way to Vancouver. Upon entering, the first thing we see is a sign that says they only accept Canadian Debit Cards or Cash. Since we didn't have either on us, that posed a problem. The staff pointed to an ATM machine they have in the restaurant. I tried it out and on the screen, it looked like it was going to charge us 11% on top of a service charge, so I declined the transaction. We left the restaurant and tried to figure out a better place to get cash. A minute later, one of the staff members came out and told us the transaction went through and that we forgot our money. Bonus points for integrity and honesty from the staff. Side review on the ATM machine. I was charged $147.47 US (equivalent to $207.60 CAD) from the ATM machine and received $200 CAD. I didn't think the charge was too bad, but the transaction caps out at $200 CAD withdrawal which would be a pain if you had a medium to large size group with you. 3 stars for the ATM machine because of the limit and minus an additional star for not cancelling the transaction in the first place. We got the lunch menu (vs all day) and were pleasantly surprised with it. Sometimes there are filler items or things that the restaurant doesn't do well, but keeps it on the menu. I thought everything was good to great quality including the side dishes. We ordered plenty of banchan since it was really good and our main source of veggies (unless you count the butter corn which was quite tasty as well). The takoyaki were good and the surprise dish of the day was the fried rice cakes. I ate three rice cakes they were so good. Nice crust with soft mochi-like center and a sweet dipping sauce. For the meats, we tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites were the marinaded meats (beef and pork), the salt and pepper galbi, and the lamb. There's a time limit of 2 hours to order food, so don't dilly-dally when you get a table! Just order a few things at the beginning and then you'll have plenty of time to peruse the menu. B and I finally get to try this place. We came here for dinner and we did the premium meat. I think we did get our money's worth given beef prices has gone up so much. But is it worth it, I would say meh. The place wasn't very busy when we showed up for dinner. All in with taxes and tip was $130 for two people. I really liked the creme brulee. The beef served were good quality fresh meat. Unfortunately B and I are not able to eat that much. Our favorite was the hanger steak and the miso beef. We loved the ribeye. We got 3 of those. Service was a bit of a miss. Food came quick at the beginning and half way through server was hard to flag down and when we were able to flag him down our order took a long time to show up which was not cool. Decor of the place was ok. I am guessing because it is new, all their grills are quite new. Gyubee is a Toronto chain. If you compare Toronto prices and here after taxes and everything the prices at the end of the day works out to be the same eventhough Toronto is around $10 cheaper. Another gyubee meal absolutely demolished! I will always come back for their meats, cold noodles, and creme brûlée! Gyubee truly never disappoints and is arguably the best ayce I think there is. The menu is incredibly diverse and isn't limited to just grilled meats so everyone can be satisfied and you won't be sick of purely eating meat without worrying about the cost of extra rice! However I also believe that their diverse menu and meats, cuts and types are all very good quality and taste amazing! If you find it not flavourful enough, there's also soy sauce on the side and seasoning powder! I personally like to dip the non-marinated meats in the seasoning powder! I also recommend ordering the cold noodles as a palate cleanser with extra kimchi on the side! Since it was busy, we were waiting a while for some of our items to arrive and if we did not remind the waitress, I don't think we would have received the order. One of our orders actually got completely forgotten. Food was good and there is a big variety of items you can order. Quality also seems to be decent. The reason for my lower rating was because of the experience with payment. The bill was split and I guess some people in the group did not tip. The waitress gave us attitude and then later, the manager personally came out with the dish that we needed to remind the staff for and brought back the card machine just to have the tip paid. Returned for lunch a couple months after having dinner here, and I enjoyed their lunch menu a lot more! The price and selection is almost half of what it is for dinner, but I felt it was more worth it. Our favourite items were the black pepper galbi and the miso beef brisket. The galbi slices were thick and tender, and we definitely ate our money's worth. The cold noodles, takoyaki and bibimbap were really good as well. Out of all the sides, I enjoyed the spinach and cold tofu. The buttered corn is a must. Our server was very sweet and attentive, and tried to get our food out quickly despite the lunch rush. Definitely join the online waitlist about an hour to 30 mins before when you want to be seated, or you'll be waiting for a while. They also let us know that their ssamjang, chili powder and salad dressing contained nuts, which was very helpful. The quality and service are both great for an AYCE spot. One the best Japanese bbq places I've been to. Must say the service from Rouzo was top notch. He was swamped with 9 tables but still held it down. Putting in all of our requests. The food was delicious. Our favorites were the thick cut pork belly and miso beef. I really liked that even though it's Japanese bbq it comes with Kim chi! This place only takes cash and Canadian debit. They do have an ATM machine on site. They do charge a bad exchange rate but when you're in a pinch it's an option, so come prepared. read more

Overall a moderately well experience. Came here on a weekend and expecting a wait, we joined the queue early at 1pm or so and ended up with a table just before 5pm. They accept cash or debit only and are very clear about this. While the server was friendly, there were orders that were missed and it felt as though my party had to keep following up with the servers to get the food we ordered. At one point, the server also turned the stove off because of a big flame, said he turned it back on and insisted it was turned on yet wasn't. Our first time trying Gyubee and we enjoyed it. We came without reservations and the guy in front, instead of turning us away, asked us to wait 10 mins for a more definitive response. We were about to leave for another restaurant when he told us that 10 tables are settling their bills and a table should be available for us soon. And it did. He has very good customer service skills for sure - very accommodating and pleasant with his words - he surely convinced us to stay and earned a customer. Thomas, our server was great. He was attentive and checked on us for more orders, clear the dishes and recommended some cuts. He made sure we tried different meats on our first round then it was up to us to order subsequently. Food was great. We especially loved the thin Kalbi cuts, the soy marinated steak and corn...not to say the other cuts weren't as tasty. It's a mix of Korean and Japanese dishes and sauces. The space is huge. Thomas informed us that there's 36 tables averaging 4 per table with some accommodating more. It was packed and people were still lining up outside. Came here twice. One for their all day menu and one for their lunch. Biggest difference is the rib steak and prime kalbi. There are other extras but not too special. In my opinion the prime kalbi is good but the rib steak is not. So, paying $20 extra for prime kalbi is not worth it for me. If only they offered scallops and other seafood on the all day menu haha. For the lunch menu, there are plenty of choices already which makes $30.99-32.99 a good deal. I usually go for beef and pork for bbq as chicken takes forever to cook. Love that they have takoyaki and bibimbap, both delicious. The creme brulee is what seals the deal. Its so good and no where else has creme brulee ayce. The final ice cream is one per person. I have been going to different gyubee in toronto for a million times, first time at Vancouver location, I'm pretty disappointed at the first impression because of her. If you are going to have someone be at the front, at least train her to be nice and friendly:) However, Our waiter is super super nice to us, he is fast and very friendly. We are really happy about his service and that's why I added 2 stars back no one at once in 2 hours refilled our water and both of our cup was completely empty. This was not ok. This used to be the old Boston Pizza location and it took so long to reopen because they had to hook up gas lines to each and every table for table top cooking. The place is really clean and spacious inside. It's a bit loud, but it was prime dinner time and gas fire cooking is going on at every table. There's a strict 2-hour limit for every table. When we were sat, we were rushed to order, the server came by every 2 minutes to get us started with food orders, and we hadn't even got to page four of the menu yet. The All You Can Eat is pretty good. Once you realize that the meat cuts are not exactly as pictured, and are pretty thin cuts, you can adjust your ordering, cooking, and eating strategy to accommodate for the thin meat cuts. You order the meats cuts by the piece and they are rather thin, so don't be shy if you have to order 6-12 pieces per person. You can eat the bbq with rice or lettuce. If you prefer the lettuce wrap style, you can stack the thin alices of meat on top of each other. The meat itself is good quality, and the rib eye steak is the star of the show. There was a good variety and good quality of meats, side dishes, and appetizers. A few adjustments I wouldn't mind seeing: - include an electric button to signal a server like in some Korean restaurants. - bring extra napkins to the table, if people are eating with lettuce wrap, they'll need napkins to wipe and clean their hands. - the ice cream and crème brûlée should be served with a real spoon, not the tiny wooden paddles. All in all, we will be back, I just don't like feeling rushed to order and get out when we had about 45 minutes left in our stay for two people. read more

Was really looking forward to trying out Gyubee in Richmond as I had a great experience when I tried out one of the restaurant in Montreal. We went for the lunch menu which is priced at $32.99 per an adult on Fri-Sun. They also have an all day menu for $53.99 on Fri-Sun too that offers more premium meat and a few more varieties of dishes and desserts. Mon - Thur pricing is slightly less too. We were pretty happy with the lunch menu as it has a good amount of selection and service was very quick and attentative. There is a 2 hour limit per a table and the staff is very friendly and remind you ahead of time to ensure you have smoke off time to order and finish your food. Overall a really nice experience and would like visit again to try their all day menu for their sake clams and creme brulee. read more

Great experience as usual from Gyubee. Staff were great. Good has improved with the beef slices being more marbled with more flavor than previous visits. Maybe a better batch this time? Only thing was that our 7 yr old kiddo had just about touched the 130cm height limit, so had to pay full the full $55 price, despite her eating basically a few pieces of beef, some veggies and a bowl of rice. Not to fault them at all but it does make it less economically sound to take her there until she's big enough to eat closer to an adult sized portion. Dining room was bustling and noisy as usual for a weekend. Some of the customers were a bit rowdy for a n early evening dining crowd and the washrooms could certainly use more attention with the floors completely soaked in the men's room. I'd still highly recommend this place, but if you plan on bringing kids, maybe check how your little one's height stacks up against the 130cm limit and set your cost expectations accordingly. read more

They had beef, chicken, and seafood (such as shrimp, squid, salmon, and clam). We had several repeat requests for Miso Marinated Steak to grill. The group's favorite. My favorite was the Nagoya Style Chicken wings. Very crispy and nicely flavored. You order by quantity. For vegetarians, they had vegetables, and tofu. If you're a big eater, this place is for you Service: 5/5 - the servers especially James were efficient and were able to keep up with our constant food order. It didn't take long to get our food. They take reservations. We were reminded a few times that our dining time limit was 2 hrs on a weekend. In addition, they only accept cash or debit. Ambiance: 4/5 - nice atmosphere to the place. The challenge is that at a table of 6 people, there's only one grill to cook your food. You're constantly cooking and there's not much time to eat.
