We decided last minute to come check out this sushi spot and called to make reservations but they were full. They told us to join the google waitlist when we wanted to come in so we checked about an hour beforehand and there was no active waitlist online. We were seriously refreshing the screen as we were driving over to the restaurant. When we got to the restaurant they told us to join the waitlist and lo and behold there were already 5 people ahead of us!! The restaurant is small and the waiting area even smaller -- with 5 ahead of us we ended up waiting about an hour!! We got the dinner sets of soba/sushi, chirashi, and unagi. Everything tasted solid but seems small for the price. My little (who doesn't eat much) finished the whole meal set and said she was only 50% full and proceeded to eat snacks in the car after dinner. The staff spoke Japanese so you know it's pretty authentic but for the price and the wait, it could've delivered more. read more

Really excellent visit. An unassuming place in a small shopping center out in west end of Richmond. But we got there about 2p on Dec 30th and it was still swamped. We were coming up from the states and were able to call ahead and get on the wait list which worked perfectly. Our table was ready when we walked in. Their specialty is supposed to be the unagi so we made the whole eel roll the core of our order. It was great but for the two of us perhaps a bit much (10 big pieces). We ate it all (with a little of their spicy sauce) but that precluded ordering a couple of other items. The Miso soup was good as was the half order of the spicy agedashi tofu. We complemented the eel roll with chopped scallop (with the spicy sauce too), negitori and tobiko gunkans. We also had the local BC Uni gunkans which were half the price of the Japanese imports and were delicious. The most interesting thing they had for us was a sashimi combo where you get to choose 2 pieces of three different fish which is perfect for two people. We had Mirugai, Kanpachi and Shimaaji (which we had never had) on the plate. One thing that surprised us was that they didn't have hamachi which is so standard everywhere else but we didn't miss it. You know a restaurant is probably worth checking out when there's a line right before it opens. We arrived about 5 minutes before opening and we were the first in line. We were promptly seated after they opened and were given hot green tea for drinks - I'm not a big green tea person but this one was nice and palatable. I believe Edokko is known for their unagi combo. They give you an illustrated instruction sheet of how to enjoy it. A couple of these ways is to dip a spoonful in the broth and mix it with seaweed and other toppings. A couple of people in my party ordered the unagi combo while I ordered the katsu plate. The unagi combo was very simple and filling. The katsu was also simple, but Saku still has my heart when it comes to katsu in the greater Vancouver area. The servers were all very friendly and accommodating. We would probably come back with family next time we're in town! read more

I came to Edokko again for lunch. There are so many set menus here that I can't decide. The servers are all kind and gave me tea many times. Inside the restaurant, you can see the menu video on the screen. It would be good to use it as a reference when choosing a menu. I ordered a new menu, Kaisen(Seafood) Hitumabushi Gozen. The main dish, seafood bowl, is eaten with half of the leftovers in ochazuke. There is soup in the pot next to the main dish, so pour the rest of the Kaisendon(seafood bowl) over it. I enjoyed it. Very cozy and well lit restaurant! I recommend making a reservation in advance. The waiting area is a bit compact. In the corner of a large plaza, won't be hard to find parking for dinner time. Service was great, everyone was very attentive. Besides their main menu they have specials you can view on the TV by the front or using the QR code. Each table has QR codes for free wifi and their specials. There are some menu items you must request in advance, their website makes it easy to do research in advance. I got the mixed sashimi set (max 3 types, 2 pieces each), one of their special hand rolls, and the unagi set. In a sunny I was craving for Japanese meal so I went to try this restaurant recommended by friends. As it is a popular restaurant it took a while to wait for the table as walk-in customer. Not too long of waiting time I was guided by the welcoming server. Service was great as expected in a Japanese restaurant ran by Japanese. There were plenty of choice for lunch set. I picked the sashimi and udon set. Sashimi was fresh and the tempura and udon were great. They won't fried the tempura with oil being recycled for many times. So it tasted delicious without the oily smell. Overall the restaurant was clean and tidy. Yelper C told me about this place. It is definitely very far out in Richmond In the Terra Nova area. It is located in a mall with free parking. B and I came here for dinner. I ordered the Unagi Hitsumabushi Gozen and B got the Unagi Hitsumabushi Set and spicy salmon roll. My Unagi Hitsumabushi Gozen came with mini sashimi and chawa mushi. The chawa mushi was super smooth and flavorful. The mini sashimi was nice. When the food came it came with instructions on how to consume the unagi. There are three ways of eating the unagi. I personally prefer to eat it strait out from the box. The sets are at the pricy end but their ingredients are shipped from Japan fresh. Food is on the high quality end. Service was ok. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and has a good number of seats. I have noticed once it reaches 6 pm, there are many empty tables. I am guessing most people dine early in the area. Came here on Mother's Day for late lunch around 1:30pm. There was a little wait due to being Mother's Day, but good we got a table for two within about 20 min of wait. We tried the Unagi Specials. It was delicious. But we felt the instructions were a bit more than the food. I had the pudding for dessert which was very good. The staff was very friendly. Authentic Japanese. Came here to celebrate my mom's birthday with a special lunch and it was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon. We ended up needing to wait for a table but their texting system is great especially since we could walk around the strip mall that it is located in. We wanted to choose the special lunch bento but they were sold out for the day so instead we had: Bara Chirashi Lunch Set: bara chirashi, udon, and tempura - We really enjoyed this set as the rice for the chirashi was perfect (although the toppings were a bit slim) and the tempura batter was light and not too greasy! The Udon was quite a large portion and had an extremely nice chew. The one complaint was that this set was pretty heavy on the carbs. Futomaki Roll - A nicely done roll filled with spinach, pickles, shiitake, egg and ginger powder. A good price for the half size roll. Ika Shiso Ume Roll - My favourite order of the day the squid was so tasty when combined with the plum flavour. You can't find this everyone and its one of my must order rolls! Overall, the prices aren't bad here for their rolls and their lunch sets have a good variety but the amount of topping on the bara chirashi could be a bit bigger. read more

The chawanmushi that comes with it was also 5/5. Wanted to try this new Japanese restaurant for awhile and glad I did! It's a bit on the pricey side, especially because I think it's from the owners of Takeya, but definitely worth it as the quality is great. I was told to come for lunch as dinner is a lot more expensive and not worth it. We arrived around 12 pm on a Friday and was told the wait would be about 1 hour. They called us at about 45 minutes. They do take reservations, but a limited number per day. They have a 2-sided menu for lunch, with sets from $20-$40. All of them have a great variety and quality fish. Service was polite and attentive. I think the chirashi and udon set was great value at $21.95. It came with nearly a full sized udon, half portion of chirashi (but the type where the fish is chopped up small), and an appetizer tempura. Very tasty and satisfying! The Shokado lunch ($29) has a limited amount per day and is basically 6 small dishes plus rice and miso soup. Again everything was delicious. We loved the silky smooth chawanmushi. The nigiro gozen set ($32.95) had a lot of sushi, came with the same side of tempura, and had our favourite chawanmushi as well. I would visit again, especially for lunch! Just make sure you either reserve or expect to wait as it is pretty busy. read more

We decided to wait even when told it might be an hour wait since we already had our minds set on this. We got a table after 40 mins. Reservations are highly recommended here. We got the unagi hitsumabushi gozen which came with sashimi, chawanmushi and side dish. At $36.95 for lunch (dinner is $2 more), it is a bit pricey. The sashimi portion was tiny and the side dish was seaweed. Only the chawanmushi was worth it. Silky smooth and soft, one of the best I had. The unagi was really delicious and I liked how you could have it 3 ways. I like it on its own and with wasabi. I didn't like it much with soup which was a very light tasting broth. You get the flavor from the unagi sauce. Unfortunately they will only open for dinner from August 2, 2023. Not sure why as they are apparently always busy during lunch. read more

Good lunch spot for a quality meal. We waited ~10 minutes for a table of 2 without reservations on the weekend. Though the unagi hitsumabushi was recommended by several people we decided to order a la carte to try a bit of everything. Nigiri sashimi was incredibly fresh; I love the option of choosing a smaller or larger portion of rice for nigiris. The kanpachi sashimi was the least fresh as the texture was a little off however we enjoyed the hirame. We tried the grilled unagi served piping hot though a bit small of a portion for the cost. Rolls were good but not necessarily enough to justify 1.5x $ of most other places. The servers were attentive and friendly throughout, checking in on us just the right amount. My wife's unagi was tender and mixed well with her accompanied rice. Everything I ate was good. It seems so hard to find - in Canada all we seem to see is ridiculously giant rolls with too many ingredients... At Edokko we had the nigiri set with kake soba and tempura. They have a variety on their menu, from fresh sashimi, to delicious rolls, noodles, dons and their speciality sets. * Unagi Hitsumabushi set ($27.95) ~ honestly it wasn't extraordinary. Despite it being good and delicious there wasn't a part where I thought this was like THE BEST unagi I've tasted. However it was a super unique experience to learn how to eat it 3 ways. * Firstly as it is rice and the bbq eel ~ this was good the rice was nicely cooked and the eel was good. 7/10. * Rice, eel, wasabi ~ the wasabi for me really elevated the flavours of the bbq eel and it had a good flavour combination that came with it! 8/10. * Rice, eel, wasabi, soup, nori, green onion ~ this was my favourite way of eating it. The soup really help bring the flavours of the nori and green onion with the eel. I really liked the nori combining with the wasabi and bbq eel sauce with the rice. 8.5/10. * Also got the shokado dinner ($39.50), and the sake steamed clams ($16.95). * Overall a good place and glad I got it off the list. Is it a place I'd come back to? Probably not I thought for the price it was overpriced for what it is. The eel was good but it didn't exceptionally stand out for the price to be what it is. Love this restaurant. First time to dine here for lunch with friends. Nice location, right in the corner of Westminster Hwy and No. 1 Road, Richmond. Lots of parking. The place is clean and service is excellent. Food is great, my friends had the Katso Don Bento and I had the Mini Chirashi Don which includes Udon Soup and a Mini Tempura dish. My friends enjoyed their order of Katso Don and I enjoyed my order of the mini Chirashi don. Because we were celebrating my B-Day one day in advance, the restaurant was nice to give me a free dessert. It was prettily done. As I mentioned before, the food and service here were excellent.
