One of my favorite Japanese spots in Vancouver, and it's honestly a hidden gem. It's one of those places that has consistently impressed me with its quality, and I really hope it continues to maintain that high standard. Sure, it's not the cheapest place around, but honestly, you get what you pay for. The a la carte options can add up pretty quickly, but if you're a fan of premium ingredients, it's totally worth it. They offer things you won't typically find in regular Japanese restaurants, and you can really taste the difference in quality. What I love about this place, though, is that they're not just about the fancy dishes. They have these limited-time set bentos that are such good value. It's a great way to sample a little bit of everything they offer. The bentos let you experience a mix of the restaurant's best dishes at a more reasonable price, and you get a good feel for the variety and quality of their offerings. You're not just limited to the typical items either--it's a nice balance of the familiar with a few surprises thrown in. It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back because you know they're always delivering something fresh and delicious, even in their everyday offerings.

Walking into Edokko Nigiri Sushi felt like stepping into a hidden gem! From the get-go, the bright, airy ambiance buzzed with excitement, and we could instantly tell the food was going to be exceptional. Our table was graced with succulent eel glazed to perfection, incredibly fresh sashimi that practically melted in our mouths, and a teriyaki chicken that was tender and juicy. But the fun didn't stop at the food! The service was top-tier, with waitstaff who were not only friendly but also had us laughing. One waiter, in particular, bore a striking resemblance to Andy Lau, and we had a blast debating that with our group! The portions were on the modest side, as is typical for Japanese cuisine, but every bite was packed with flavor. The clean, welcoming atmosphere made the entire dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. In short, Edokko Nigiri Sushi is a must-visit, blending exceptional food with delightful surprises. Highly recommended!

Omg soo soo good! I'm definitely coming back here next time I'm around. Reminds me of when I went to Japan! Everything is super authentic Food was absolutely high quality and they use very fresh ingredients. Their unagi was spectacular!! We also got the lunch set of udon and chirashi don. Will be coming back for sure!!!!

I came to Edokko again for lunch. There are so many set menus here that I can't decide. The servers are all kind and gave me tea many times. Inside the restaurant, you can see the menu video on the screen. It would be good to use it as a reference when choosing a menu. I ordered a new menu, Kaisen(Seafood) Hitumabushi Gozen. The main dish, seafood bowl, is eaten with half of the leftovers in ochazuke. There is soup in the pot next to the main dish, so pour the rest of the Kaisendon(seafood bowl) over it. I enjoyed it. I think everyone should try this once.

We love this place! Super authentic Japanese restaurant that is both super clean and affordable. We love the variety of sashimi available and tried kawahagi sashimi for this first time . Definitely recommend getting the combos here!

Very cozy and well lit restaurant! I recommend making a reservation in advance. The waiting area is a bit compact. In the corner of a large plaza, won't be hard to find parking for dinner time. Service was great, everyone was very attentive. Besides their main menu they have specials you can view on the TV by the front or using the QR code. Each table has QR codes for free wifi and their specials. There are some menu items you must request in advance, their website makes it easy to do research in advance. I got the mixed sashimi set (max 3 types, 2 pieces each), one of their special hand rolls, and the unagi set. I really enjoyed the eating experience for the unagi set but I wish they provided more seaweed, green onion, and wasabi. The sashimi and uni was fresh!

In a sunny I was craving for Japanese meal so I went to try this restaurant recommended by friends. As it is a popular restaurant it took a while to wait for the table as walk-in customer. Not too long of waiting time I was guided by the welcoming server. Service was great as expected in a Japanese restaurant ran by Japanese. There were plenty of choice for lunch set. I picked the sashimi and udon set. Sashimi was fresh and the tempura and udon were great. They won't fried the tempura with oil being recycled for many times. So it tasted delicious without the oily smell. Overall the restaurant was clean and tidy. The price is slightly pricy but in terms of quality you can get a quality meal and good table service.

Jumbo tempura sober, A very interesting dish. The bowl is huge. The server is good. The tea is good.

Yelper C told me about this place. It is definitely very far out in Richmond In the Terra Nova area. It is located in a mall with free parking. B and I came here for dinner. I ordered the Unagi Hitsumabushi Gozen and B got the Unagi Hitsumabushi Set and spicy salmon roll. My Unagi Hitsumabushi Gozen came with mini sashimi and chawa mushi. The chawa mushi was super smooth and flavorful. The mini sashimi was nice. When the food came it came with instructions on how to consume the unagi. There are three ways of eating the unagi. I personally prefer to eat it strait out from the box. The sets are at the pricy end but their ingredients are shipped from Japan fresh. Food is on the high quality end. Service was ok. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and has a good number of seats. I have noticed once it reaches 6 pm, there are many empty tables. I am guessing most people dine early in the area. Overall I really enjoyed my food. It was super delicious. Only issue is that it is very far out.

Came here on Mother's Day for late lunch around 1:30pm. There was a little wait due to being Mother's Day, but good we got a table for two within about 20 min of wait. We tried the Unagi Specials. It was delicious. But we felt the instructions were a bit more than the food. I had the pudding for dessert which was very good. The staff was very friendly. Authentic Japanese. The restaurant was spacious and felt good with the sun shining through the windows. Parking was not too bad as there was a parking lot for the plaza.

One of the better Japanese restaurants I have tried. Even a simple green salad from this place is made just right. Service is attentive and timely without overbearing. I will want to come back again whenever I have a chance. Highly recommended!

TL;DR: great sushi and unique unagi hitsumabushi! Service was great, as well! Came here for lunch on a Thursday without a reservation and luckily only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Service: So nice and attentive and informative (5/5) FOOD: ~Unagi Hitsumabushi (4/5): comes with instructions on how to eat it! The unagi don itself was 5/5. The chawanmushi that comes with it was also 5/5. The other accompaniments and soup were good too, but personally like eating the unagi don as is. ~Saba Bo Sushi roll (3.75/5): Thick pieces of saba (mackeral) but a little too much rice ~Chopped Scallop Roll (3/5): Scallop was good and seasoned well, but too much rice ~Aburi assorted sushi (5/5): love that they char the rice a little too. The fish was all so fresh and delicous ~Aji sashimi half order (3.5/5): the fish was very fresh, but might not be my personal taste preference ~Pick 3 (Scallop, Hamachi Toro, Albacore Toro): all 5/5. So fresh and delicious Definitely worth a try!

Chirashi and udon set (lunch) $21.95

Wanted to try this new Japanese restaurant for awhile and glad I did! It's a bit on the pricey side, especially because I think it's from the owners of Takeya, but definitely worth it as the quality is great. I was told to come for lunch as dinner is a lot more expensive and not worth it. We arrived around 12 pm on a Friday and was told the wait would be about 1 hour. They called us at about 45 minutes. They do take reservations, but a limited number per day. They have a 2-sided menu for lunch, with sets from $20-$40. All of them have a great variety and quality fish. Service was polite and attentive. I think the chirashi and udon set was great value at $21.95. It came with nearly a full sized udon, half portion of chirashi (but the type where the fish is chopped up small), and an appetizer tempura. Very tasty and satisfying! The Shokado lunch ($29) has a limited amount per day and is basically 6 small dishes plus rice and miso soup. Again everything was delicious. We loved the silky smooth chawanmushi. The nigiro gozen set ($32.95) had a lot of sushi, came with the same side of tempura, and had our favourite chawanmushi as well. I would visit again, especially for lunch! Just make sure you either reserve or expect to wait as it is pretty busy.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We look forward to be back!!!!!

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

However, Saku may have won me over with their sharable combo set. My friend and I came in for dinner last Wednesday. It was quite busy for a weekday and we waited around 30 minutes. I loved the interior of this place! It's clean, but warm toned, and stylish. We opted to share the Zenbu set (comes with variety of pork, chicken, cheese, seafood and veggie tempura) and realized we could get refillable rice, soup, and salad for both of us. This was awesome! I was pleasantly surprised by the chicken thigh. I normally always order pork katsu, but the chicken was tender and juicy. The scallop was huge and not rubbery at all! There was more than enough food for the both of us and we even both had leftovers for lunch the next day. We also ordered the lobster croquette, which was fun to try. Like any croquette, there was a lot of mixed ingredients apart from the lobster, but it was still tasty and fun. The staff were attentive at refilling items and were easy to flag down. This is definitely a place that I would return to again and again when I'm in the mood for Katsu.
