The young man behind the counter was very helpful when I told him it was my first time there. He explained the menu to me, made suggestions, told me the ones he liked, etc. Amazing customer service and friendly attitude, which you don't see that much in a lot of places. I got the Crossroads Taco which was brisket, avocados, cheese, jalapeños, and probably other things. I specifically did not get cilantro on there, which would've been included. We love Torchy's. We've been several times, and the food is always delicious. The queso could be a meal in itself. Every taco I've tried has been tasty. But today, I have a new favorite: The Hogfather. Oh. My. Goodness. It's chili verde pork, black beans, corn, bacon, cotija cheese, crispy onions, and...teriyaki sauce?! I hate to be the torchy's hater, because everyone talks so highly of this place! BUT, it is overpriced, overhyped, and over complicated tacos. First off, the service is great! The cashier/bartender was nice and helpful. After I paid, they gave me a zapper thingy for the wait. I assumed when it went off, I would go pick up my food. Nope! They came deliver the salsa first then tacos. The salsa was mid but probably the best thing on the menu. Even my drink was flat lol. This place is in walking distance to all sports LSU. Apparently this is the meet up spot before women's basketball. The staff is really friendly. They have nice selection of cocktails and beer. The food was very plain, prices are not bad. I ordered the fried avocado taco but I couldn't eat it like a taco because it was more of an open face tact, that is was but the flavor were very bland, could have use some seasoning. The refried beans on the taco were very dry. My husband got a burrito. The burrito was large but the stuff inside needed to be applied more evenly because each bite was full of one ingredient instead of a blend. The food was ok besides that. This spot is perfect for a quick bite. We tried the cheese queso, which was really tasty with a nice kick to it. I had the Crossroads taco, and it was fantastic. They pack so much meat into the tacos that you can't even close them completely--very impressive! I also sampled my daughter's Steak Fajita and Democrat tacos. They were good, but not quite as amazing as the Crossroads and Trailer Park tacos, which the server had recommended. I just love Torchys sooo much!!! I tried the hillbilly queso this time and it was really good. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I had my go-to taco again which is the chicken fajita on a flour tortilla! Never disappoints. I also love adding on the green salsa that comes with it. It adds a nice spice to the taco. I am hesitant to rate this based on the soft opening I attended on Sunday, so I plan to return a few times over the next few months to see if the amazing experience is continued, which I am sure it will be. The longtime question asking when will Torchys come to BR has finally been answered... They're here, officially open for business today, 7/22. You can't go to our neighboring state of Texas without hearing you should find a Torchys, and while I am so hesitant to try chains while travelling, I am always happy to find a Torchys. I first had Torchys on a trip to Austin, and, I too began asking if we would ever see one. And now we do! Located in the shadows of LSU's Death Valley and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, in the middle of most of the athletic venues, it will no doubt be a go-to for many. Scoring a pass to the soft opening, i perused their online menu for suggestions. This location on the inside is pretty standard and very similar to a San Antonio location I've visiting. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest staff who explained how the event would go down. Be sure to check out the secret menu featuring rotating tacos with various fresh features. I ordered the Matador (from the secret menu) and the Baja Shrimp tacos as they come - you can order trashy or hillbilly style, but i wanted all natural on this visit. I also got the street corn side, and wow, you can't go wrong with that - gimme all the street corn! Being the soft opening, they had managers galore checking in on you and the staff was on top of it all. I am thinking they likely had staff from other locations as well and trainers throughout. Of course, they had just opened, but the store was very clean, and there was a fair amount of social distancing going on. Their bar also has some amazing drinks. I got the Paloma, and it had just the right pop to it. Other locations have a "reverse happy hour" offering morning drink specials, so I will be curious to see if they will follow suit. As it is just on the edge of LSU's campus, I don't know if they will assume the risk of this. All in all, a wonderful experience. We live in Houston and have Torchy's regularly. The Baton Rouge location by far has the best tortillas I have ever had compared to any Texas location. This was my first time trying out the LSU Torchy's location. The food did not disappoint! The cashier was very rude and I was surprised by her unfriendliness. Definitely not a good look. DAT QUESO THO I have been a Torchy's fan for a while and was pumped to see they were expanding into Louisiana. Love the atmosphere in here and love that there's a nearby parking lot to make it easily accessible, unlike many other LSU eateries. The queso is not to be missed. It has it's own unique flavor that I crave with super thin, crispy, perfectly salted chips. As far as tacos, trailer park (make it trashy) is always a classic. I was hooked on Torchy's when I visited in Houston, so I am SO GLAD Baton Rouge got one too! The BR location is honestly huge and extravagant (in a good way) compared to the Houston location I visited. In the few months that Torchy's has been here I've probably come 5+ times. Food & Drinks: 5/5 The tacos are just as good as they are in Texas!!! I absolutely love that there are plenty of choices for me as a pescatarian. No sacrifice in flavor or creativity for the pescatarian options either. And each taco is $4 or so, so I can usually eat a moderately sized meal for $10 or under which is awesome! The Baja Shrimp is my absolute favorite - the flavor combo is excellent and the shrimp is always nicely cooked. I also love the Migas, the potato egg and cheese, and the Fried Avocado (though this one is a little heavy). I've tried the Mr Orange (salmon) taco before and wasn't a huge fan, though that is probably personal preference. I did have one of their drinks (Peach House Frozen) during the soft opening, and it was sooo good. Service: 4/5 I've come in person and ordered online. As for the in person experience -- the employees at the counter have always been friendly and willing to explain menu items, then they give you a buzzer and your food will be brought out to you. When they are busy there will be a wait, but I've never waited too terribly long in person. For online orders expect a 30 minute period between ordering and the tacos being ready. I've only had good experiences with the time estimations (have never showed up and my food not been ready). However, calling in an order has been hit or miss for me. A couple of times I have tried to call in an order only to never be able to reach anyone. That's what's bringing the "service" category down to a 4/5. Well Torchy's, you've been open for less than 2 weeks and I've dined with you 3 times already. I'd say that's a good sign. The Baton Rouge Torchy's is exactly what I've come to expect from this chain - service with a smile, delicious tacos with a little something extra, and amazing Austin style queso. If you've not gone to Torchy's in some of the other cities they've been in for several years, run not walk, Yelp reader. And of course, our location has a bar with local beer on tap, the margaritas we've come to know and love, and some lighter options like the Paloma (my personal favorite). Please be aware right now there are 2 lines, one for to go and one for dine in. You can also walk up to the bar and order there. When you order, you want the queso. You probably also want the street corn because it's amazing. As far as tacos go, if you're into breakfast, go for the Ranchhand - and make it trashy (a beautiful distinction that allows you to get queso on any taco). Torchy's is my newest obsession! I've been twice now and both of my experiences were absolutely outstanding. I had heard a lot about how much people love Torchy's and boy did it live up to the hype. First off, I think their queso is the best I've ever had. My favorite is their hillbilly queso, which is their green chili queso upgraded with chorizo. And OMG that stuff is GOOD. On Thursday, July 11,2024, I went to Torchy in the LSU location. There was no customers and we were the only one there. It took them exactly 21 minutes for get our to go order. I asked a few times and they said it is coming. I ordered one Baja, two trailer trash, and two kid quesadillas. The service was horrible. read more

Delicious, and worth a try! Don't be turned away if there's a line, it moves fast. And they're handling Covid very well, and keeping most of the line waiting outside. Our food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. Neither of my tacos were super hot, and I wish the veggies on the chicken fajita taco were grilled (like a fajita). I have been looking forward to Torchy's Tacos opening in Baton Rouge for quite some time. The last time I enjoyed Torchy's was after completing the Austin Marathon and I remembered how tasty it was and absolutely hitting the spot! Torchy's offers fantastic tacos, sides, and drinks at a good price. As you can see from my photos, they certainly don't skimp on the toppings and everything looks like it is ready for a photoshoot when delivered o your table. In addition to their expected lunch and dinner tacos, Torchy's breakfast tacos are drool worthy as well! Insider tip - Torchy's offers a "secret menu" where you will find their seasonal and rotating options based on fresh ingredients and location. I would highly recommend asking about it during your trip. Upon request, you will be handed a list of four more options to choose from! There are also different styles for your tacos. You can order as they come, "trashy", or "hillbilly style". Honestly, you can't go wrong any way you choose! During my last trip I ordered two tacos, a side, and a cocktail and was extremely full afterward so you definitely get bang for your buck at Torchys. The Baton Rouge location is set to open in a few days, but even their 'preview' training night had wonderful service and excellent sanitation standards. This place is fun--a great restaurant to have on a college campus. This is either my second or third visit to the establishment here in Baton Rouge. The green chile queso and chips are a must (though this time the chips were a bit inconsistently fried--chunks of chips stuck together left some of them oily and chewy). The trailer park taco still reigns supreme for me, though this time I also really enjoyed the green chile pork taco also. I'm a huge fan of tomatillo sauce and this delivered the flavor. What keeps the experience shy of 5 stars for me comes down to the counter service and the wait for the food (I'll give the chips a pass because the queso did not disappoint). I also found out after I ordered that they were out of avocado and poblano cream sauce but the guy taking my order didn't think it was important to let me know. Really delicious! The chicken tender from the "trailer park taco" is really tasty and I wish I could buy a whole box of it. Highly recommend that one. The alcoholic drinks are kind of pricey ($10).
