Every time I have come to the restaurant it is always packed. The food is phenomenal and you definitely have to take advantage of $1 tacos on Tuesday.

It was before and I still stand by my opinion now: Taqueria "El Limon" on Jones Creek is the best authentic Mexican taqueria in BR!! No one beats their sauces.. no one. The Cueritos Tacos are what pork dreams are made of (for me at least), Lengua tacos are delicious and that El Pastor is . The corn tortillas can make or break a taco, and theirs are on point. Not too strong flavored but also hold up and don't crack, and they only use 1 instead of layering 2 so you have a lot more room for tacos. A great thing too is that they also serve an array of Mexican beers, cheladas, micheladas and Jarritos, Topo Chico etc I love having a beer with my food! CASH ONLY They also speak English for anyone who's shy or apprehensive.

Wow! Yummo! An unexpected find. Had burrito a lengua and fajitas de planchita. Def a repeat ASAP! Hurry before the gringos find it and ruin the food

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and hearing all sorts of good things. While you can get typical "Tex-Mex" fare here, you'll want to do yourself a favor and try some of the more authentic dishes. We ordered quite the spread so we could try a few things. Unfortunately they were out of salsa but the guac and queso were good substitutes. The chips were fresh. If I have a critique I think the guac could have used some salt and lime, but it was still fresh and delicious. For the "main event," we tried the enchiladas verdes with a combo of meats including chicken, pork ribs and flank steak. Honestly we could have stopped there, but we also ordered a tamale, a steak taco and a pork taco (with chunks of pineapple!), and a lengua (beef tongue) gordita. You really can tell how homemade everything is. The tacos were flavor explosions--the pineapple on the pork taco was excellent. The tamale was freshly steamed. The beef tongue (it was my first time trying) on the gordita was really tender. The enchiladas are essentially cheese enchiladas (it appeared to be cotija), and the meat is served on the side. It was a large serving, as I alluded to previously. The verde sauce stole the show. Most importantly, the service was top notch. We really felt at home and our server gave us great recommendations. We can't wait to come back and try some of the specials and the breakfast!

Salsa was homemade. Pretty tasty, a little spicy. Rice and beans were good. The pepper in my Chile relleno was kinda tough. Not a bad place.

The most authentic spot I've been to in Baton Rouge. Food is really flavorful with decent pricing. Very small place, not much on the decor but if you solely care about the food it's a must try. With the cool weather coming up they have some nice soup options such as Menudo and Pozole. I personally had the Beef Ribs (Costillas de Res) which were pretty good and easy to eat. If you plan on visiting this place it is CASH ONLY. If you can speak Spanish when you go it's a plus since no one speaks very good English here. Enjoy!

When speaking spanish is a prerequisite for ordering food, you know you're in the right place. This joint is just about as good as it gets for authentic mexican in baton rouge. The prices here are much cheaper than any other place around (i had two tacos, a small quesadilla, and rice and beans for about $8 last time I was here), but that's due to the fact that they don't serve you complimentary chips and salsa. There are two factors keeping this from being a five-star dive: one, they are a cash-only operation. Being a person that rarely carries cash unless i plan on playing some carnival games, I find this very annoying. And two, the entire place smells strongly of Pine-Sol. I used to chalk it up to the restaurant being new, but they've been open well over a year now and the smell is just as strong. Definitely distracts from the flavors of the food. If they could address these two things, I would eat here all the time.

I have no idea why any legit reviewer would complain about lack of authenticity. El Limón was packed for Sunday lunch and Spanish was being spoken at every table. My menudo was perfect and equal to any I've had in Mexico. Nice warm corn tortillas. Dishes are not drenched in cheese or sour cream. The carnitas combine spiciness and subtlety. Waitress spoke good enough English. Had an issue with my check which was quickly resolved. Overall a great experience. I reserve five stars for WOW! but this is top 10%.

    The best tortas.

I will go back and continue to try a new dishes ! But they also have tacos and burritos. The drinks were good too!!! Service was awesome. Gloria was our waitress and she provided some assistance with the choices made. We ate in the bar area. It wasn't spicy like most salsa that I taste, but it also had a different flavor. I couldn't really put my finger on what the difference was, but it was really good. I ordered the Carne Asada and it was 10 out of 10 for presentation. The dish came steaming, sizzling and smoking as they sat it down and it continued to do so for over a minute. While the steak was cooked properly, medium well as I requested, it was very tough. Maybe it was an angry cow. Regardless, the staff was very attentive. And the service was very fast. Ambience was nice and it felt very comfortable although it was a bit cold so I had to go and get a jacket for my mom and my sister-in-law. I would give them another try the next time I'm in the area. The menu had a few options that I would be interested in.

Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
