If you live in Lubbock and you haven't been to Torchy's yet, you're wrong. Yes they're a chain, but don't hate on them for that (what are you, from East Austin or something? Gosh). They have some pretty awesome tacos. Personal favorites are the Crossroads (Brisket, Bacon, Onions, Cilantro, Sauce) and the Brushfire (Jerk Chicken, Mangos, Cilantro, Diablo Sauce). Their rotating selections of tacos of the month are always awesome as well, but the T.O.T.M. tends to be a bit on the pricey side, so plan accordingly. They are close to campus, and they have great drink specials, so they're usually pretty overrun with the college crowd, which can be frustrating. If you go on an off hour (or for breakfast because breakfast tacos are proof that God loves us and the world will be okay in the end) then the line isn't too bad. I'm sorry, but I don't see what the hype is. The food here is VERY overpriced. And the food is not all that great. The portions are small as well. I ordered the republican and the democrat tacos and was not pleased at all. 2 tacos and a drink for 12 bucks?!?!?? Are you high?!?!!?? The atmosphere is okay, but not enough to make me feel good about spending $12 for 2 tacos. Your money is better spend at chipotle or freebirds. Been a regular of torchys when I'm in Fort Worth. excellent food and service there. As for this location they're going to have to step up if they wanna stay around. My queso was cold and my burrito took about 20 minutes to get to me. I asked the i think manager( he had street clothes on and was running orders) if he could warm my queso? He snidely remarked that they don't do microwaves here. I told him they might wanna invest in one. second bowl was room temp. won't go back to this location. Great tacos! I usually get the trailer park trashy which is awesome and then have gotten the chips and queso as well. Also a great choice! This time I got the roscoe which is DIVINE! It's basically chicken and waffles with an egg on a tortilla and they give you syrup. After managing to fold it which was a bit of a task it was great! Definitely give it a shot! I've always enjoyed TT in Austin and San Antonio, but the Lubbock location was a far cry from my experiences at other TT locations. I seldom leave negative reviews but it it was pretty unbelievable. It was as if EVERY person working was stoned or drunk. 2 drink orders wrong, food order wrong, after taking 20 minutes to be brought out. All open tables were filthy, half of them had no napkins. Bar was filthy and smelled like sour milk/bleach. I've worked in plenty of restaurants, whoever the manager is should be retrained. BUT, the food was good and on par with the other TTs. read more

Torchy's overall is great, but this location is not the best. I stopped in here for a quick lunch just passing through town and my Trailer Park taco was overcooked. The chicken was super rubbery to the point where I couldn't eat it. My Green Chile Pork taco was good though. (So 1 star for the Trailer Park and 3 stars for the green chile pork.) I tried torchy's for the first time here. The staff is friendly and the order wait is 10-15 minutes so not terrible. I love the republican and the brushfire, the spicier the better. The pricing is a bit on the high end each taco is about $3-$5 depending on what is in the taco. I've tried it on corn and wasn't a fan so I stick with flour for tacos. I want to start by saying I grew up in Austin eating Torchys growing up. I loved it and still do. The Lubbock location is hit or miss. Last night was a sweeping miss. (I also work in the food service industry so I know it does happen) I ordered TOGO that was supposed to be ready at 9:42 pm. Because this is a busy location I tend to show up about 5 to 10 minutes after. It was busy so when my food wasn't ready at 9:53 pm, I did not fret. The lady gave me my number and I waited. As I saw many pick up orders come and go I began to get antsy. We could see that our name was not on the dry erase board used for pickups. My girlfriend went over to check because it was 10:15 pm. The man she approached had his head shaved on the sides with some hair on top wearing a red vest. She asked about the order as nicely as possible because she did not want to be annoying, the man turned and said: " Look I don't know what to tell you, why don't you just take a seat." We could see that there were a few to go orders on the hot plate. She came back and waited while we watched the man do nothing, but put his hands through his hair staring at all the women in the establishment. Once 10:30 pm hit we were beginning to lose faith. The man in the hooded vest left his post and she went back up to ask the other much more friendly cashier. He looked and sure enough my order was on the hotplate and had been for quite some time. He simply said, "Sorry, people are not doing their jobs." Because there were "lil nookies" in the bottom all of the tacos were cold. The ONLY reason I write this review is that this is not the first time we have had an issue with the man in the vest. I understand when it is busy, it is stressful, but to disrespect a loyal paying customer is just rude. It seemed like he was doing the least amount of work in the entire establishment and yet he also treats customers poorly. I don't know if he is a manager or what, but he sure does have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to having to help customers, seems much beneath his pay grade. read more

But, service was a little slow with the server focusing too much on one group at the bar. Some Lubbock locals introduced me to Torchy's a while back. My visit to this fine establishment was during the holiday season, so no Texas Tech students crowded the restaurant. I have heard it is packed when school is in session. I have been here twice meow and my favorite tacos are Mr. Pink and Mr. Orange, both fish tacos. I have tried bites of almost all the tacos on the menu and I have enjoyed each one of them. The queso is also amazing; they have some spicy thing that they put in, which is awesome. I'm not a soda drinker but apparently all the soda from the machine is the real sugar kind. They also have margaritas and beer. Overall this place gave me a "Chipotle's hot sister who liked tacos" type vibe. The food is definitely fast, but the ingredients and process seem high quality much like Chipotle. Have driven 1.5 hours just to go and eat at Torchy's. It's that good. Green chile queso is phenomenal. I'm from New Mexico so I've been around green chile items a time or two. :) It can get super packed. But that's because it's so good. I normally love Torchy's food, but this past Friday they were pretty busy-estimated 30 minute wait time which my friends and I were fine with. Their food came out in about 45 minutes, but after about an hour my food still had not come out. I politely asked a server twice about my food, and was met with rude excuses. I finally got my food after the third inquiry to a different server, but the order was completely wrong and cold (1.5 hours later). Might not go back for a while as the price paid for two tacos is not worth it for that level of service. read more
