This is one of the best ramen places that I've been to in a long time! I get the vegetarian ramen and ALWAYS ask for the garlic oil on the side. Trust me that is the secret sauce to taking the ramen to the next level, literally. The dessert options are great as well! I do have issues with the service sometimes, they don't always check in on you and they also don't like it when you ask for condiments (e.g., chili oil, garlic sauce, black pepper, etc.). Service is good for the main part; however, two things I don't like - sometimes they act like you're an inconvenience to them, and they barely check in with you after the food has been served. Just had lunch for the first time here. Had the Thursday special ramen and sushi (can't remember what it's called). And my husband had a spicy chicken ramen bowl. We also had two different sandwiches the server recommended. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced - especially for the portion size. Never had ramen before. From the moment we were greeted by the host we felt comfortable and were looking forward to this new experience. Our server Carla was amazing - pleasant, informative and efficient. She was very busy but took the time to explain the menu items to us and make recommendations. The parking was a bit tricky but hey worth the extra effort. I love anything noodles...so when Torino Ramen came into my neck of the woods, I was excited, but not with their hours! I've heard they have extended their hours, but even then it is strange to not open on Sundays and limiting to even just the lunch and dinner hours only when ramen can be a mid day snack as well. I ordered the Tantan because I like it on the spicy side and it was very mildly spicy. I should have asked for more chili oil. My mother-in-law tried the Torino and she liked it, but I found both broths very good and tasty and not overly greasy. But they must have raised the prices because the bowls are no longer $10, but $12 and I found it lacking in the meat and vegetable arena. Their soft boiled egg is done perfectly, but there was only a tiny 1/4 stalk of baby bok toy, and a teaspoon of ground meat in my bowl. The meat was tasty but there wasn't more than 1 bite in the whole bowl. I also tried their BBQ pork bao and found it flavorful, but not for $3. I also think their bowls are way to small for a $12 portion with very little added except for the noodles and broth. I'll just have to travel to find my ramen from now on. read more

I ordered the kitano without naruto (not a fan) and an extra egg. There wasn't s spicy option on the menu, so when I ordered I asked if they had chili oil. I knew I'd want it. My broth was flavorful, but I still added oil because I like the spice. The charshu was good. Not too fatty, not too lean. The corn was better than mass market canned corn, probably organic or something, because it just has a good sweetness. The eggs... well if you read my other Ramen reviews you'll know this is of critical importance to me and "soft boiled comes in a variety of stages". These were a hair harder than I like. I like 6-8 range, these were 9. (Look at the photo I posted to understand that) I'd come back. I'd get extra chashu instead of extra egg. read more

Despite the lack of opening hours, I have officially found my favorite ramen place in Chicago! I discovered Torino Ramen through a personal recommendation and she claimed that Torino offered ramen closest to the authentic ramen one may find in Japan. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find a day and time that worked for my schedule and I made my way to Wilmette with high expectations. Torino is in the busier area of Wilmette and there are plenty of spaces for parking nearby. The restaurant itself is very small and tight. I heard that this place fills up fast during lunch hours so I arrived close to opening time and was seated right away. Their menu is not large, but they have various ramens, baos, and other smaller dishes. I decided to go for the Torino ramen at the top of the menu since the chicken broth sounded so appealing. Food came out very fast and I was surprised to see the small sized bowl. As highly anticipated, the ramen noodles at Torino were definitely one of a kind. They were the perfect amount of chewiness and almost melted in my mouth. The broth was not too salty and the pork belly that came with it was tender, juicy, and not too fatty. I usually have a hard time finishing an entire bowl of ramen, but I was able to devour my Torino ramen in no time. I could have ordered another bowl of ramen if I wanted to, but I decided I should rather come back again for more. Next time, I would love to try some of their smaller plates along with the ramen. Actually, three and a half stars. I get it, it's Wilmette. High rent district. The ramen here IS good. The appetizers, especially the Chicken Karage, are above average. But so are the prices...above average. The restaurant has a clean, contemporary vibe. It's small, and fills up quickly, so be sure to get there early, or prepare to wait. The service is excellent. Water glasses were always full, food came out quickly, and the waitress was friendly. Wifey and I enjoyed the experience overall, until we got a bit of sticker shock when the bill arrived. I ordered the "Plain Bob" with the Kitano broth and charsiu pork. The Kitano broth was tasty, the pork very tender, and the noodles were pretty much spot on in terms of texture. My only complaint was the portion size for the price. It was smaller, but pricier, than other Ramen shops in the north and northwestern suburbs. Wifey ordered the eponymous Ramen. She said it was a tad on the bland side, but noted the ingredients were fresh and the noodles cooked nicely. The Karage appetizer was great. It was served hot, the breading was light, and the chicken was quality meat. Overall, not bad, but there's better out there. read more

Walked in 11:30am Thursday right as they were opening. I don't remember how I found out about this place, but the About Me on their website said a group of local Japanese women noticed the Ramen fad and thought they had a claim in it. We ordered the Sammy and a Veggie Ramen. Presentation-wise... it's okay. It just kind of looked like they threw on a bunch of stuff and let it go. There was also an in inconsistency in how runny the eggs were... my friend's was basically hard boiled and mine was pretty runny. The veggie has a very soy-tasting broth in my opinion, but my friend said it was pretty good. The Sammy was also very good, I loved how clean and salty the broth was. It went very well with the chewy noodles. We were kind of craving hot sauce, like sriracha to add some more flavor to the soup, but they didn't have any. Only chili oil. But even the chili oil wasn't spicy, and it was more like Sesame oil. I'm not a heavy eater so the fact that I finished my entire bowl of ramen means the portions are on the smaller end. The marinate in Torino poke bowl seems unusual; would prefer a simple sesame oil and soy marinade; bummer edamame was extra. The sushi rolls were similar to other restaurants. This restaurant has a nice casual feel while still providing sit down service. Perfect for a simple date night! We split the shrimp dumplings for an appetizer - 3 delicious little dumplings. I then followed that with the Veggie Miso ramen. I would describe myself as a ramen newbie, but let me tell you this was great!! Our meal at Torino Ramen was very good. We tried 3 different broths - all were very tasty. The noodles had a nice texture and the toppings went well with each broth. My kids were not fans of the bright red ginger on the top of their Sammy bowls. I would have liked to see larger portions and more meat, but I am used to Ramen Misoya in Mt Prospect. I would return here when in the area, maybe adding appetizers or desserts to make up for the smaller portions. Hopefully they will update their Yelp listing with the correct hours. Yelp said they opened at 6 pm on Saturday nights. We arrived at 10 minutes before open only to find the place packed and some people already finishing their meals! Would've been a 4 if it were not for the service. We came on a weekday and the place had steady business but was by no means busy (ie. there were some empty tables). Our waitress would often stand by the front counter and be on her cell phone. She rarely came by our table. We didn't even have water for a good 10 min after being seated. Ramen, we shared the Kitano, was as expected (a little skimpy on the toppings and meat) but broth was flavorful. We also got: 1. Tako yaki - Not a fan. They seemed under cooked and really mushy in the middle. I've definitely had better elsewhere. 2. Mini karaage don - This was delicious. Fried chucks of chicken with a sriracha mayo drizzled on top and rice. Wish there was more of the mayo. Overall, glad a decent Ramen shop opened in the suburbs. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before. This is my husbands and mine go to ramen spot. Stumbled on this gem a few years ago with my girlfriends and have been in love since. I would highly recommend the Yuzu Lover and the Sammy. I usually go for the cabbage noodles so I can get a drink (Midday Tea for me, Citron tea for the hubby). I have tried several of their appetizers as well and all have been delicious. Love that they accept reservations. Now that I think about it, I think I will make a trip out to Wilmette this weekend for some delicious ramen. read more

My frustration with lack of authentic ramen north of Chicago is finally over. Torino Ramen has been on my list for a while and one visit was enough to convince that I shall revisit it soon. For my first visit, I tried their Torino Ramen, one of the many ramens that featured their famous signature chicken broth. For those who don't know, Tori means chicken. What I really liked about their ramen is the broth, which was light but very flavorful, and their noodles. The yellow wavy noodles were very chewy and tasted really fresh. The perfect balance of the two saw me down completely the ramen and every bit of the soup. This dish would have been entirely perfect but I felt that the ramen egg was quite overcooked and the pork belly undercooked (the fatty portion of it should be cooked through more!). Another suggestion is that I was not a huge fan of the fried oyster. The flavor profile was strange and frankly tasted very bland. Had dinner at Torino Ramen on a Tuesday evening around 6pm, still during happy hour so my cocktail was half off. We had great weather and used their outdoor dining. Started with a fried tofu appetizer that was light an delicious, did not seem "fried". Had a Gin Blossom cocktail, really well done, also light and delicious. My friend had an all vegetable version of their ramen and the serving was large, she had to take some home. Had a few other appetizers and both were good, fresh tasting. Torino is the reason I started to like a ramen. The tan tan is absolutely phenomenal and this is coming from someone who likes chicken nuggets and cheeseburgers usually.
