My next choice would have been the adult grilled cheese - there isn't room for error there (hopefully). The tomato soup was enjoyable, and the fruit was fresh. The restaurant was pretty empty at first then became busier so there were only a few employees so it wasn't their fault they were slower at sometimes. I was really looking forward to trying this bakery as I'm always in Wilmette for lunch.... However, I was a little disappointed. Not only did I get overcharged for the items but I was given a hard time about it when I tried to get the amount adjusted. I was told to not order from the restaurant as the restaurant has different prices, but order at the bakery instead - which I did as I placed my order at the bakery and not sure why I was being told that. Not the best feeling especially when I told them this was my first time here and was really looking forward to trying this place out. On to the food. Cake pop was just ok. We had better. Unfortunately, Lawrence Deans bakery is closed as they used to make cake pops for our parties. The oatmeal raisin cookie was good but Three tarts also makes amazing cookies too and I'm always treated with respect there. Overall, I've been to nicer bakeries and I love supporting local restaurants and bakeries. Just sad that this experience was such a huge miss. read more

I went to the bakery side and got a hot chai latte and a Valentine's Day cookie that was essentially on clearance I got for $3. While I can respect the time and energy it takes to make the baked goods, I can't justify the cookie being $6 originally... Anyways, the drinks were good and the cookie was fine. I would not suggest this place to ANYONE! I originally wanted a special shaped cookie for my daughter's graduation party and went to Bennison's Bakery in Evanston. I was told that they only do round shaped cookies and suggested that I go to Eva Dean's in Wilmette. I went there and was greeted with the attitude of really not being wanted. Per their suggestion, I sent an email along with a picture of what I was looking for. We went back and forth based on what they were able to do ver what I wanted. I specifically stated that I did not want a circular cookie. In the end, we agreed to a certain shaped cookie that they said that they do! I specifically asked for 6 of that specific shaped cookie with her name using that same font and 6 of that same shape saying "congrats" along with a dozen of the graduation cap shaped cookies. I paid a nice price for this order...ONLY FOR IT TO BE INCORRECT! When I arrived, in excitement I asked to see the cookies before they tapped up the boxes! That's when I realized that the order was incorrect. The young lady went in the back trying to see if there was anything that could be done. A few minutes later another young lady came out with a complete defensive attitude and told me that when I called to make the payment that I was told that I was paying for the circular cookie which was a complete lie! She continued on scolding me and talking to me as though I was some two year old that just broke her favorite cookie jar! I tried to explain to her that if you weren't able to do the requested shape then they could have called me or sent me an email...NOTHING! She then slammed the apron that was in her hand on the counter top and yelled (yes yelled) at me saying "then I'll just give you a refund! I just need the last four digits of your credit card! I responded back by telling her that my daughter's party was in a few hours and I needed the cookies! She quickly fired back saying "well then you're not getting a refund!" I picked up the boxes and said "that's okay, I will never do business in here again! As I was leaving, she literally followed me out of the store yelling at me! I told her that her attitude sucked, got in my car and left! I called Bennison's and spoke to the manager on duty ( who I might add was very condescending) to stop sending people there because they messed up my order... I was pretty disappointed in the manager's attitude particularly since my family has been doing business with the Downer family for YEARS!!!! As a paying customer, there was no apology for the mistake nor was there partial refund offered! Just a great deal of attitude given! While she was yelling at me, she kept saying "That's how we treat people!" I wasn't sure if she was referring to an email exchange or what...so I went back into my email string (see below) and there wasn't anything nasty said outside of me stating that I was disappointed that they didn't have the shape that I originally ordered! I have NEVER been treated like this, EVER! Unfortunately, this woman never identified herself, but I would definitely recognize her ... long wavy brunette hair, about 5'6"/5'7" with a thick build. In previous visits had great meals with Leo & Lars as servers. This AM I was 1st or 2nd table. Host/Mgr seated me w/o any word or greeting. Server seemed very nice but on hyperdrive verbally & physically. I order very specifically, and was provided with tea and crispy hashbrowns as ordered but eggs overdone. Butter ordered was not brought so it could soften, nor was it brought at all when food was served. When a customer has an issue w/ food or drink, it should immediately be removed so as to diminish further annoyance or upset. Plate was left on table w/ eggs, allowing hash browns to get cold while more eggs were cooked. One does not go out for a hot meal to eat it cold. No saucer to put tea bag on so had to get up to grab cup from other table. No check back to see how meal was, which is a MUST in good basic service. When ordering, I had said that I would be ordering further AFTER the eggs & hash browns, but server whisked my empty plate away right when I finished, and never asked what else I wanted. I was going to order a 2nd entree and probably a glass of wine, so bill would have been rather high. It is not good to eat when upset or disappointed, and it is not rocket science to serve properly or to train staff to do so. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting is very clean and very pleasant, but the whole experience should be positive and nurturing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Even paying the bill was negative as this is just another business that thinks they don't have to give the customer proper change, but keep it for themselves. In addition, the Host/Mgr continued to be shut down, never taking the opportunity to ask how my meal was or thanking for the patronage even as he was five feet away as I was leaving. Stunning. Having owned my own restaurant and catering, and worked in all capacities in the food industry for 26 years, I tend to be an overly generous tipper. Baked items were average - I got a cinnamon roll and a "horchata" donut... which really was a cold rice pudding inside a donut. The one star comes for the greediness of the manager. We have family coming in from out of town and I wanted to reserve a table for 20; each family pays their own. Manager said we have to put $500/deposit down and spend a minimum. Um no, that's ridiculous. I wanted to stay local and support local but I'll just book with Maggianos or Miller Ale, which have never given us such redic asks. I ate at EvaDeans (today) on a Saturday. The food is good (a little pricey), but today (on the weekend) they kicked my friends and me out from our table in under an hour! The server came to charge us for our meal while we were still finishing eating (!), and the manager came and asked us to leave right after we were done (we were still drinking our coffee). If you want to go out with friends and have some time to socialize as most people do when they go out to eat, DO NOT go to this restaurant. Kicking us out of the restaurant within a very unreasonable period of time is rude and inconsiderate. I will no longer be patronizing this restaurant any more. read more

Came here for the first time yesterday for a work holiday party. The Lad and Lassie private room is adorable - and a lovely nod to the previous occupants of the space. Our brunch was wonderful! Highly recommend all the pastries, the fluffy pancakes, the sun-dried tomato and goat cheese quiche, crispy hash browns, and ham, bacon, and sausage platter. The mimosas were popular as well. So great to see this beautiful restaurant open in Wilmette by two North Shore Culinary stalwarts. The ambiance is causal, clean and welcoming. All of the food we tried came out hot, beautifully presented and delicious to boot. The hash browns in the corned beef hash being my favorite Part. I wanted to update my review to Eva Dean's because when I made a review almost a year ago, the service was a little hit or miss. I have to save, we love going to Eva Dean's. Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had and the chicken salad croissant from the bakery was great. Cake pops are delicious and seriously some of the best cupcakes. It's hard not to buy everything in the case when I visit.
