Hot food should be served hot ,not lukewarm. It was not tasty. Tables were awkwardly arranged.

I discovered Koya in Wilmette, Illinois, about a year ago, and have enjoyed many excellent meals here since that time. Koya provides excellent food, a beautiful dining room, a very good location, and also always provides very friendly service. I recommend Koya to everyone who enjoys Asian cuisine. I specifically recommend the make-your-own bowl option (I have chosen this option every time so far-- because it is always so good), and the broad array of choices the Koya menu provides. Basic casual Asian restaurant in Wilmette to get stuff in bowls. It has that familiar theme popping up. Koya is convenient and has lots of everything whether it be meats, vegetables, or whatever. Has okay prices but it's basic and for sure not fancy. This is best for lunch. A place where most customers get it to go. It's got a few tables. There's also places by the front window. Can order with the cashier or on a tablet at the counter. We chose the latter because we were getting things changed or left out. It's about $9 to get a cup. The bowl is the bigger size. Each of us got the Veggie Cup. This has a bed of lettuce and rice, and is topped with carrots, cucumbers, edamame, eggs, hijiki, oshinko, ponzu sauce, sesame oil, and shiitake. I left the eggs off. The ponzu sauce is made with fish flakes, so we substituted sweet soy sauce on these. Casual place to get lunch. It's closed Mondays. There's a few things okay for vegetarians. read more

Not cheap but I love how easy it was to customize. You can only pick 1 or 2 of some ingredients, but can add additional through the "extra" options. I wish the sauces on the side had labels because there were four and i can't tell what sauce is what. I had a tuna bowl with black seaweed and a bunch of vegetables. The black seaweed has a pretty strong sweet and savory flavor, which goes super well with the raw tuna. Tuna quality was decent, no stringy stretchy texture or fishy taste. The cuts are pretty small and quantity was not a lot but also not too noticeably little. All other vegetables are pretty fresh. I would definitely order again to try their tofu bowl and a few other ingredients they offer. Comes with a miso soup, and a pretty light and smooth biscuit! As for sauces, the yuzu was orange and creamy, pretty good without being too overpowering. The sweet soy is definitely a go-to, strong and dark sweet and savory flavor that's pretty thick like a syrup that would go well with any protein. I think the translucent orange colored sauce is orange ginger, which is just like a vinaigrette but can't tell the orange or ginger flavor very well. The sunomono has a pretty strong and dark taste and is more watery, mostly a savory and sour flavor not sweet. read more

While walking around town, my husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant. We love milk teas and saw their sign on the door. When we walked in it was so bright and clean and all of the staff greeted us with a smile and made suggestions for us to try. We ended up trying the Taro Milk Tea and the Strawberry Milk Tea. Both of which were SO GOOD! The boba tasted fresh and the flavors were spot on! We've tried a not of places in the past, and often they taste like powder mix. But Koya's was creamy and delicious! If we haven't just eaten lunch we would've gotten a poke bowl there too! We're already planning our next trip back, and next time we come back we are going to get a poke bowl too! read more

Very disappointing! I ordered a bento box went into the bathroom and when I came out 2 minutes later, it was already on my table. The potstickers were lukewarm, as well as the tempura. Clearly they were not cooked to order. They must have been sitting somewhere in a warming tray. The teriyaki chicken was cold, including the broccoli. They couldn't cook the broccoli? I came here for a pick up order. Had the steak bowl and chicken bowl. The bowls were very tasty. I particular the steak which I really enjoyed. The steak had a grilled taste and was marinated perfectly. The bowls came with a cup of miso soup which was not watered down like many other places. I initially felt bad ordered 10 minutes before closing but the young lady working behind the register and owner were very nice and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant had a Chipolti fell to it but much brighter and less sterile. For a quick lunch or dinner, this is a great spot centrally located in Wilmette downtown. One of my go to meals whenever I am on the road is Poke. Koya was the best place in the Evanston-Wilmette area. Rather than smother the bowl with soy sauce and other condiments, they actually make sure that all the ingredients work together. Stellar meal. read more

I've been going to the Koya in highland park since I was a little girl. Easily some of the best sushi in the Northshore . I was in the area and decided to try the Poke version of Koya! I'm perplexed by the excellent reviews. I found the portions stingy and the workers very unfriendly. The pricing also wasn't transparent. I ordered a bento box and there were upcharges for offerings even though it wasn't listed on the menu. The rice did not seem fresh, barely any salmon on my bento. Overall, not so impressed. Ate here for the third time last night - SO good. The avocado torch is out of this world amazing and comes with miso soup. My husband was disappointed with his but it because he built his own so I'd recommend going with one of their special bowls. My 3 year old enjoyed the kids bento of chicken teriyaki, rice, egg roll, an orange, and a cute little umbrella. Oh and they give you a delicious cookie too :) read more
