He and his helper trimmed the windows to place them correctly, exchanged insulation,/ fixed siding, and even added leftover siding to another part of the house. Finally, he purchased some match paint and painted over all that had been worked on.

The good: -competitively priced, one of the cheaper quotes we received -good quality materials: porcelain tile slabs -frequent communication -finished product seems to be functionally ok, for now -we had a toilet leak during the construction period, Juan reseated the toilet properly and fixed the leak promptly, this was much appreciated. The bad The work was overall sloppy, in many regards. First and foremost, after Juan installed the valve and plumbing, they caused a small leak into our living room below during water testing. This required them to open up the ceiling downstairs, dry it out, and patch up the drywall and repaint (see pictures below). This honestly freaked me out and increased my vigilance throughout the project. During shower door installation, they cracked one of the slabs requiring it to be replaced. This was fine, but the waterproofing patch job looked uneven and thin, but they did come out and re-coat it after I brought this up. The shower door hinges were poorly installed initially. The screws were not countersunk and sticking out; I even confirmed with the shower door manufacturer that this was not correct. We had a lot of back and forth about this; Juan eventually replaced the screws with ones that fit more properly. Wall edge at the end of the shower looks very uneven, and the caulking has cracked and the wall on the tub side even has a hole in it at the transition. On the last day, I asked them to replace the shower arm to raise our showerhead, as it was low; I purchased a gooseneck from Lowe's myself, but Juan initially told me "you can do it yourself" however because they already installed a standard shower arm. He did end up putting it in at the end but it was installed improperly; it was crooked, so I decided to replace it myself afterwards as I was already quite stressed with this project already and this was a simple fix. After taking the shower arm off, I found no teflon tape on the threads, but instead a thin layer of some kind of goo. I'm not a plumber, but teflon tape is generally recommended to seal the threads. I cleaned the threads off and installed the shower arm with properly applied teflon tape with a thin layer of pipe dope. At least the copper elbow in the wall felt solid. Overall, the wet area seems ok, we're not having any leaks (so far), and the shower is functional; however, I felt the project was rushed, communication, while frequent, was poor, and the end product is just sloppy. In the end I was told "I worry too much about everything." I'll post the pictures of the areas of concern and you can judge for yourself. We saved a few thousand dollars, but in hindsight, I wish I hired someone else and saved myself a lot of stress.

Based on this experience we just had him come out and fix cracks in our vaulted ceilings and skim coat over the lower 3.5' of drywall in our dining and living room where wainscoting was. This is a large job and he spent the first day masking the room off and putting up zipper doors to keep dust contained. Took 6 days to complete the job and we couldn't be happier with the end result. He could've taken some shortcuts to speed it up and make more $, but instead was incredibly detail oriented and did everything properly. I'm a perfectionist to say the least, and have had multiple contractors come back to fix workmanship issues in the past. Mark truly is an old school craftsman, at a time when most contractors simply don't take pride in their work product. Additionally, he was incredibly professional, kept me updated on the status, and I felt very comfortable with him in our home all day with my family. In summary, he will be our go-to person for any drywall work that needs done and I would strongly recommend him to anyone.

If we ever need any drywall repair in the future I would definitely hire him again. We had three companies come out to give us quotes and they were all about the same. This is a tough review to write because I think Zach, owner of Family Man Handyman, is more than…read morecapable of doing beautiful work and he is good with communication. However, my overall experience (including cost) have prevented me from hiring him again or recommending Family Man to others. I contacted this company to install a gliding garbage/recycling drawer behind a lower kitchen cabinet. In our new home, there isn't a pantry or really a good spot to put garbage, and I didn't want it out in the open! In addition, there were smaller jobs/odds and ends I wanted the handy man to look at IF he had time after installing the garbage drawer. In communication with Zach and on his recommendations, I purchased a glider system, appropriate garbage and recycling cans, and specific drawer handle from Home Depot prior to the appointment. Zach sent a fellow employee, Tom, which is where it started going wrong. Even with pictures and videos provided, Tom did not set up what we requested. Instead Tom apparently LEFT the house to go to the hardware store for some period of time to buy a completely separate system without asking me - he had my phone number and had been texting - and installed it without the drawer handle or any of the items I purchased! (Why am I charged time for him to go to the store?) Then, he did some of the smaller items on the list to mediocre results. For example the garage door that was stuck? Still stuck! Etc. I emailed Zach my disappointment and that Tom didn't accomplish what we asked at all. Zach then set up a time to come out himself and basically created my vision perfectly. Pictures included. To this day we LOVE our system - he even made the drawer "soft close". It's exactly what I had in mind. He also adjusted the invoice to fairly reflect 2 hours of Tom's time plus his day in our home. The final issue is the cost. In my mind, a "handy man" shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.. for a sliding garbage can behind a kitchen cabinet, it cost us $500 plus materials. It also irks me that we pay $75 for commute when his business is designed to come TO your home, and we live 15 minutes from Family Man. When Comcast comes out, do they charge you for commute? When we hired roofers from Tacoma, for example - a farther distance - they did not charge us $75 for the time it took to travel to our home. Zach is great at what he does - hence the 3 star review, you could still get exactly what you want - but quite honestly I'm not sure the people he's working with or the cost of services makes Family Man worth it. I wish I would have read a review such as this before spending $500.

I opted not to hire them after I received a $2,100 estimate to replace a single 15"x2.5" floorboard, caulk around a single window, and examine a rattling attic fan. I hired someone else to replace the floorboard for $250. The prices begin to make "sense" when you receive their fee schedule: $75 just to give an estimate (Don't worry though - if you hire them you can put it toward paying one of their many other fees!) $50-$100 "trip fee" per day that they do work $75-$250/hour per employee per hour There's a 25% markup for materials - even if YOU provide the materials! Of course, since they don't provide a line-item breakdown on their estimate, I have no idea how these exorbitant fees even got to $2,100 for what should have been no more than 5-7 hours of work. Please learn from my mistake and don't bother asking this company for an estimate unless you plan to wildly overpay for a project. Update: I added a star because they refunded my $75 ($81 after tax!) without my asking, after I responded to their bid with an email expressing my displeasure.
