I tried to give Toros another chance and again I order lunch. This time I got the lunch chimichanga and the lunch Carnitas tacos. Needless to say and by looking at the one star, nothing that I ordered was good. And I really am trying to give this restaurant a chance. The Carnitas tacos had very little flavor and the corn tortillas was so soggy I could not stomach it. The black beans and rice had no flavor. The chicken inside of the chimichanga was so tough and flavorless, and it was submerged in what I thought was refried beans and queso however, it was the worst that I've ever had. The best thing that I received from this restaurant this go round was the chips and salsa. I think my experiment with this restaurant is now over and I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Such a nice Durham/Raleigh feel in Oxford. The set up of the restaurant was very modern and relaxed. There is a big staff so there is attention everywhere if we ever needed anything. I would rate 50 stars if I could-I had an awesome experience- the vibe the food the service - exceptional- some of the servers do not speak English but someone was close by to interpret- but all the servers and the management was smiling- moving about quickly and efficiently- they helped me navigate a huge menu - which offered numerous selections. What a major disappointment! It looked good online for Oxford, NC location, but after the great help from the two people at the register, it was a nightmare. Ordered the King Toros fajitas for take-out. Food was out quick, and I was happy. Took it to my daughter's home nearby to share it with another visiting daughter. First, the price in-store was $2 higher on the menu than online advertising. I wish that was the worst thing, but it's not. The rice and re-fried beans container was about half the size of what you would normally expect at a similar Mexican restaurant. The rice also had a somewhat unappealing cold texture, and the rice and beans were boring to the taste buds. To add insult to injury, the steak AND chicken pieces were just WHOLE slabs of meat thrown in whole op top of the vegetables. The steak was touted to be their best, but it had a big glob of fat on one edge and was so tough to cut, there is a good chance it was Muhammed Ali's sparring partner back in the day. The chicken was just okay. The few shrimp were a tad more tolerable than the steak and chicken, but they wouldn't win any Gordon Ramsey awards either. It's the first time I've ever had fajitas with the meats just more or less thrown out there for the customer to have to cut up on their plate. Entirely unacceptable. And for an added flourish, while the small container cup of salsa was pretty good, the table chips were more stale than fresh. What a letdown this Mexican Restaurant was in Oxford, NC. As it stands right now, I don't ever plan to dine there again. read more

Do not under any circumstances go to this place. I tried to place an online order, both times it said it did not go through. I had to to in person to order the food. I was charged three times on my credit card for the same meal. I called them and they said it was my problem, call the app maker, ( who by the way does not answer the phone). The food itself was mediocre ; the quesadillas were greasy and dry (which is really hard to do), no sour cream was supplied despite being paid for. Crappy food!! Even worse service and attitude. SLOW! This is the best way to describe the place. Took too long for drink order to be taken and delivered. Salsa is a bit spicy and having a drink sooner than later would have been nice. Haven't gotten the meal yet. Let's see how that goes. Well the food finally arrived and had no taste. I got the chicken chimichanga and it was so bland. Rice would pair better with the beans than almost white lettuce with a dash of dressing. For two people with no appetizers 1-sweet tea 1-water, cheese sauce for chips and salsa,a side of guacamole and a tiny extra sour cream it was right at $60. If it had been the best food I'd ever had that would have been fine. Honestly I would spend my money at Taco Bell instead--it has more flavor. read more

The food has improved since I reviewed Toros Cantina 3 years ago, but the service and cleanliness have appeared to decline considerably. It takes seemingly forever to get a server to take a drink order and then to get our order taken, another unreasonable period of time. Getting the check is another time consuming process of looking around and trying to flag down our server who refuses to make eye contact with us. This place could use some servers who smile and actually want to interact with their customers, even just a little bit. While the tops of the tables are clean, if one looks at the sides of some of these tables, they are just gross - looks like black water droplets were left to dry on them or even still dripping down the sides. read more

A perfect restaurant for this location. I stopped here because it was the only restaurant near the Tesla Supercharger in Oxford. It has been renovated but the inside was very trendy and colorful. We ordered tacos, empanadas and quesadillas. All of the food was filling and flavorful. The drinks were amazing! I ordered a "Tempache" which was delicious! The peach margarita was so full of flavor, it tasted like T was fresh squeezed peach juice. I will definitely come back coming through North Carolina. read more

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN THE AREA! I CRINGE when I see reviews talking about how "authentic" a Mexican restaurant is or opining that the food is properly "seasoned". Mexican cuisine is quite diverse and the preparation, flavours, and ingredients vary. And let's face it, most folks in Cackalacky have never been to Mexico to sample REAL Mexican food- so they wouldn't know. OK, off my soap box... Toros' offerings are not the most authentic. They have definitely tweaked their recipes to suit their customers' taste - and it works! Their food is really stellar. Starting with their made-in-house salsa. Toros' salsa is hands down my favourite in the state of NC, yep THAT good. Their tiros de pollo is a super tasty chicken in a cream sauce dish that we almost always order. I really dig their tacos, they offer tripe and tongue in addition to the more Gringo-friendly flavours such as carne asada, carnitas and chicken. If you're in Oxford, check out this hidden gem out (in the Walmart parking lot). You will not be disappointed! read more

This place is delicious!! Definitely a go to for us now, and should be for you as well! We ordered off the lunch menu, and were not disappointed in the quality not the quantity of food. The ambiance alone sets it apart from the other Mexican restaurants in the area. It has a cool, Texas farm feel to it, but still very in touch with its NC roots. Plus the wait staff and the bartenders were incredibly friendly and laid back! We never had any pressure to order; we were able to enjoy our time, but never went without a full drink or basket of chips and salsa. Check out their drink menus also! I had the skinny margarita and it was delicious. Definitely did not see any "mixers" going into this drink, it was fresh lime juice and simple syrup. Perfect for a little midday cocktail! I've always found Toros to be the best Mexican food near Oxford. We've been going once a week for months. They lost my business today. My boyfriend and I were sat, two tables came in after us and they were given chips and were asked if they'd like anything to drink. We sat there for another 15 minutes and no one came. Me and my spouse arrived at Toros at 4pm today. The host was very nice and greeted us + seated us with a smile. One server came by and brought us chips to eat with a 'mean mug', she didn't even say hello until my spouse did first. We ordered with another server and we waited for almost 45 minutes for our food order to be fulfilled. Other groups came in, some larger by a big amount, and received their order with consistent attention from the server. We didn't even get a check-in for drinks or chips more than once during this 45 minute period. We ended up leaving without eating and placed payment for our chips and drinks on the table. Environment was a bit awkward, no music was playing for a long time and servers seemed to be in their own world for the most part. Overall we had a bad experience but it seems like they have a good reputation with many others in the reviews. read more

I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants... this one is now my new favorite. Our meal started with chips and salsa. Salsa was not watery or lacking flavor. I don't particularly like spicy salsa but theirs has just enough kick to keep it interesting. Very clean and staff was friendly. I ordered a mixed drink (pina colada in a pineapple) which was delicious. For our dishes the husband ordered carne esada tacos which he says were very good and the best he's had in a while (this is his go to dish every time we eat Mexican) and I tried something new, Tiras De Pollo which was rice with cilantro and pico, refried beans, with chicken in a cheese/cilantro sauce.
