A great shop where the owner is super passionate about pottery and clay work. Most of the stuff in the shop is made by him, while some of it is work students have done from the classes and open sessions in the back. Love buying pottery and ceramics from a local source, knowing that it wasn't made in some factory by practical slave labor, but by someone clearly living their passion. read more

Toros has a great studio, I've taken ceramics classes at three different places in LA now and his has a more intimate and laid back environment compared to the others which is what I was looking for. Pros: -Uncrowded facility -Lots of studio time! Stays open late and affordable classes -Beautiful and affordable pieces made by Toros the owner (so if you're having trouble throwing you can always buy his) -Nice people -Two sweet cats that love attention! That being said, I think for beginners you just have to ask a lot of questions during class times and come in to practice and have Toros demo for you. Having pieces in mind that you want to make helps a lot and Toros has a lot of knowledge to share but you just have to make sure you voice them! Toros Pottery is a gem. Not only he sells beautiful pieces and some with personality, Toros Pottery is also an amazing pottery studio for anyone in any level learn how to throw a wheel and to hand build. Every student in the class is in a different level. Some have been there for 12 plus years! Some creates pottery professionally and sells their pieces. And some are like me who has been there a little over a month. The atmosphere is very chill, welcoming. Everyone there looks out for each other, so if someone sees you struggling when Toro's in a back room, someone might help you out or you can ask a person next to you. They won't be annoyed with you if you do have a question. Toro himself is a wonderful and passionate instructor. He believes in making as many pieces as you can, and he expects you to ask questions. Of course, if he sees something you're doing wrong right away he will come help you right away. You probably want to have a project in mind before you come in. Mine, for instance, I really need a ceramic coffee drip so that was my personal goal. And until I get to that point, I had to throw a lot of cylinders! But I also made a plate for fun and vases. You set the pace to work and play, which makes this place SO fun to come in. If you are looking for a chill, friendly environment, want let your intuition and interests seep into your pottery making, and not allergic to cats (the studio cats are precious and super friendly and will most likely come up to you when you are there), you should come by and check this place out! read more

Yesterday, I visited Toros Pottery on assignment from my ceramics instructor. I was to go out and purchase a ceramic piece. I found Toros on the web, and ventured out. BTW, I did call ahead to make sure the store was indeed open and as promised it was. Easy peasy! I was greeted by Toros himself and then left to my browsing. WOW A-mazing! What a great assignment to go out and explore the work of a true artist doing what he obviously loves for a living. Ceramic pieces were beautiful and affordable. I had a question, so Toros came out and we discussed a particular piece. I shared with him why I was there. Before I knew it I was on a tour of the studio. So fun, inspiring, and so unexpected. I couldn't decide on the two pieces I picked out, so I bought them both. Highly recommend visiting and I know I will be back. Thank you Toros! PS BEWARE! Ah, this is a find. If giving the gift of art is something you love to do, then you must stop by Toros Pottery. This is a working studio which happens to also have a shop attached. Toros is the artist who owns and runs the studio, creates the wares, which are of European sensibility and frankly, beautiful --aesthetically from clean to funky pottery charm. He's also charming in an old world way, without ego and pretense, which I admire. I'm finding a lot of this lately and it's really refreshing. (Take that you jackasses up there in your ivory towers with your fucking "credentials" and hob snobbery. I get to say such things since I'm an artist and abhor this sort of elitist art crap.) Back to Toros. You'll find some of the usual pottery wares, vases, plates, bowls, tiles, even a sink, along with some unique gift ideas. One of my faves is the pomegranates. What makes them special is that they rattle. Yeah, they rattle. Toros rolls a ball of clay in paper and then places it inside the pomegranate prior to firing. When the process is finished, the ball inside the pomegranate becomes a rattle. It takes an otherwise cute piece of pottery to a new level. Speaking of levels, you'll also be pleased to note that the prices are absolutely affordable. I made mention of this in comparison to a well-known pottery studio in Echo Park. Toros humbly stated that his studio isn't a tourist stop and he realizes who his market is in Eagle Rock. Smart man. In addition to selling pottery, Toros also offers pottery classes. So if your interested in slinging some mud, this is the place. I know where I'll be doing my holiday shopping. read more

While window-shopping in Eagle Rock recently, my eye caught the beautiful pottery pieces on display at Toros Pottery. I thought to myself: these pieces are really beautiful (I'll bet they're expensive). Venturing inside, I was delighted to meet the owner, Toros Tngrian, very much the classic old-school artisan. Although this place is next door to my favorite boutique of all time, Lady, I have never stopped in. That ended on Thursday after work when I finally ventured in. Toros is amazing! Supercool handmade pieces at totally reasonable prices. I got a platter for my dad for christmas ($33!) and I will be back for more gifts. I love Toros Pottery! I had the pleasure of being one of Toros's first students when he started his business over a decade ago. I was a senior in highschool and up until the day I moved east for college I would come here during my lesson days and open studio days to throw. Over that course of time I made a whole bunch of pottery, sculpture and tiles. His throwing classes are well instructed and within a relaxed atmosphere. Toros himself is a nice and warm person whose easy to talk to and very helpful when your clay starts to resemble some drunk looking goop. Aside from classes, the gallery showcasing Toros's art is great as well. This is one of my favorite shops in Eagle Rock! I always make it a point to try and visit when Im in the area to check out his new creations. This man can make anything! Some reviews below complain about the prices of some of his pieces but if you actually learned how the process of turning a slab of clay to become a beautiful and/or functional piece of art- then you'd truly understand that the prices he sets for his art are more than reasonable considering the time and dedication that was placed upon it. I love this place!! Toros Pottery is one of those places that makes a neighborhood feel like a neighborhood. We had some family visiting from out of town, and we thought it would be nice to head over to Eagle Rock for some coffee at Swork, and some shopping here at Toros. We had heard good things, and felt it was time to check it out for ourselves. This place is amazing. Shockingly low prices, phenomenal quality, truly original pieces of art. A word about Toros' style. Rather than create perfect objects, symmetrical and precise, he makes pieces with irregular, asymmetrical forms, each one unique and special. When we asked Toros (a really really friendly guy, by the way) why his prices were so low, he chuckled and replied that he wanted people to actually be able to buy his stuff. Works for us! read more

This place is a great place to pick up a housewarming gift. All the items for sale are made on site. The prices are very good, all the pieces are unique and you're supporting a local artist. The eye-catching orange shop with turquoise accent is definitely a little hidden gem in Eagle Rock. The pottery shop feels like a studio the minute you step foot because in essence it is where the artist, Toros, creates his work. From vases, to plates, to the beautiful crimson pomegranates, the colors and asymmetry of each art piece will leave you breathless and inspired. I've had the fortunate opportunity to be Toros's student, and he always pushed me to find my creative instinct, and make something like nothing that had ever been made before. He truly is a visionary. His wife was my art teacher as a child, and they are genuinely one of the most down to earth people you will ever meet, always greeting you with a smile. Instead of just dropping by to look at the pieces Toros makes, don't be afraid to take a few classes yourself. The bf and I came on a Saturday. There was 2 signs on the door clearly stating the hours of operation. Also, 3 signs on the windows saying OPEN. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT OPEN. We knocked the door and rang the doorbell NADA. There was no note on the door stating if or when the person would come back. We even came back half an hour later and still no one. I love it here!!! I have been coming to the pottery studio for a few years now. It's a great place to throw and Toros is an amazing artist and teacher. I am always surprised at how quickly his students learn from him, and his wheel throwing classes are the most affordable I've found in Los Angeles. The monthly fee includes a 3-hour class plus 2 days of studio time per week. He also has a slab roller, a great selection of glazes, and everything else a ceramic artist needs. A bisque fire and glaze fire happens about once per month (Cone 10). If you are looking for a special handmade gift, this is also a great place to check out. There are both high-art as well as functional pieces (think cups, bowls and dishware). My favorites are the handmade fire-safe cookware pots. Toros' work is beautiful! read more

I just completed a 5 session pottery wheel class with Toros. The class was comfortable, enjoyable and a great intro to pottery! The 3 hour classes pass so fast you wish you always had an hour more. Classes 1-3 you are practicing on the wheel creating pieces, class 4 you trim them, and the last class you glaze. Then you return one more time to pick up your pieces. Highly recommend! read more

I found this place while in a search for pottery classes. This guy (Toros) teaches ceramics in conjunction with the LACC and holds the classes at his studio/shop in Echo Park. I was looking for a university ceramics club sale where I could buy cheap bowls for christmas presents. I didn't have much luck with that, which was surprising to me, but I did find Toros Pottery, and I'm happy I did. The bowls at Toros were just as cheap as they would have been at a ceramics club sale, and I was happy to note that other items for sale were also what I consider to be reasonable in price.
