Some small pots made by students

A great shop where the owner is super passionate about pottery and clay work. Most of the stuff in the shop is made by him, while some of it is work students have done from the classes and open sessions in the back. Love buying pottery and ceramics from a local source, knowing that it wasn't made in some factory by practical slave labor, but by someone clearly living their passion.

Yesterday, I visited Toros Pottery on assignment from my ceramics instructor. I was to go out and purchase a ceramic piece. I found Toros on the web, and ventured out. BTW, I did call ahead to make sure the store was indeed open and as promised it was. Easy peasy! I was greeted by Toros himself and then left to my browsing. WOW A-mazing! What a great assignment to go out and explore the work of a true artist doing what he obviously loves for a living. Ceramic pieces were beautiful and affordable. I had a question, so Toros came out and we discussed a particular piece. I shared with him why I was there. Before I knew it I was on a tour of the studio. So fun, inspiring, and so unexpected. I couldn't decide on the two pieces I picked out, so I bought them both. Highly recommend visiting and I know I will be back. Thank you Toros! PS BEWARE! While browsing these works of art, you may be sneaked up on by a friendly Siamese Kitty seeking "rubs and luvs".

There is an adorable shop up front of perfectly curated fabrics, sewing accessories, projects, and small treasures while the mid area of the space opens into a creative shared table area. If you venture past the rainbow quilts all the way to the back you will find a treasure trove of Juki sewing machines, set to host a group of new to advanced sewers along with a large table area in the back for a variety of craft projects. My children are in 1st and 4th grade and enjoyed the 2 part Crochet class. When it was a bit difficult for my younger one, Debbie scaffolded the entire thing and made it possible for her to learn, feel successful, and feel like part of the group. We have also tried the finger knitting blanket class and now my 4th grader can make gorgeous blankets for friends and family. The sewing classes for 8+ are incredible. My eldest has loved going in to learn how to make tote bags, pillow cases, and a variety of other sewing projects. They also have camps, which we are eager to try someday. Most recently we hosted a very special birthday party here and I can share that it was incredible, lovely, and probably the most present I've ever been able to be at one of my kid's birthday parties, considering Debbie took on most of the labor! 11 children made pillows together, along with adorable rainbow keychains and they really had a blast. I was so impressed to see my little one sewing away on the machine with her dad next to her and the older kids jump right in. Many of them made 2-3 little pillows, even though they had never sewn before! Debbie's instruction is clear, easy to follow, and she has a great deal of patience while sharing how to create these masterpieces. It was really nice having mochi ice cream in the middle table area too- Debbie had everything needed for a party in case things were forgotten. The little fridge helped too! It was very reasonably priced and an unforgettable experience for the kids. We hope Meraki will be on this cute corner for many years to come!

The area is new to me and I very much enjoyed some of the shops.I am a guy who at one time only had experience eating in South Central Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Long Beach and the Hub Cities. I do love these cities and I am happy to experience new unfamiliar places like Atwater Village and Silver Lake. Molly was there to kindly greet everyone, guide the children to complete task and behave, teach craft and chat with the adults. I enjoyed being in her class and I enjoyed seeing my little nephew complete his project. You can tell Molly has experience and education working with young children. On the walls we saw paintings and various drawings made by children. We did an Autumn seasonal craft project with paper, wooden wreaths, glue and various other decorative items. They have no-meter warning on Sunday, all other days there is a 2 hour maximum at a meter which can be paid by quarters or credit card, I do not think they accept EBT. Plenty of parking that day and other parking available if you are willing to walk. There is a garden area out back with rocks and a bench and the sun and air flowing in. I enjoyed the experience very much so as did many of the people I met there. I think the price range is fairly reasonable for the uptown people of this affluent area though maybe not for this downtown kind of guy. I do plan to come back in this area and I would highly recommend this place to any Hipster parents who want to keep children entertained for a while and want to help develop their children's vital skills.

We had attended the second class (thinking it was the first), and at that class the teacher clearly stated that only three students showed up at class one; I also heard another parent say she didn't know the session had started the previous week, either. Yet then, Samara apparently discussed this with the teacher, then came back to me via email and wrote: "I was disappointed that you knowingly and falsely implied that other families were also misled in the start date so you could get a refund." She continued on to say that my family was not a good fit for her studio, and essentially booted us from classes. Is this not an insane way to do business? I had already told her that I would accept no refund or make-up class, and yet she pushed the issue, all over email. She must hide behind some really nice teachers. I will not be recommending her studio to anyone.
