This spot is one of my favorite spots in Eagle Rock. The owner allowed my teen daughter to do her art show here (a requirement of her coursework at Eagle Rock High), so I decided to take one single Saturday class. I have now been taking classes for over a year. The teachers are all superb and all superb in different and complementary ways. I think there's something for everyone here: from the all-thumbs hobbyist (me) to actual amazing artists (members) and everyone in between. My friends and I took the drop in wheel class this morning and we had the best time. I personally have no experience with wheel throwing so I was really nervous. So rude! I popped by yesterday to maybe buy some pottery. A worker made a beeline to me -past the 6-7 people still there- and tartly said, "How did you get in here? We actually just now closed". I said "ok, should I leave? She told me "Well, you are already here" and stomped away. Needless to say, I left as quickly as possible and will never come back. I came into NAPS as a complete novice; never touched clay before and I don't have an artistic bone in my body. But I took one intro class a year ago, and I fell in love with both the practice of making things with clay and with the NAPS community. It's become a weekly activity that is so relaxing, gratifying, and fun; and I've gotten shockingly much better at throwing pottery! I've brought friends and family members of all ages here for their first class, and everyone has had wonderful experiences. I brought my mom, who was visiting from across the country, here for a 2-hour Intro to Wheel class, and she ended up finding a studio on the east coast because she loved the experience so much. I've been to other studios in LA since I started, and I can say that this place truly stands out. Instructors: they are all experts at their craft and gifted at breaking it down for all levels. Friendly, always willing to explain and assist, generous with their time. Space: The design is beautiful, full of sunshine and plants. The vibe of the members is so welcoming and the tools you get to work with are above and beyond the standard. And parking is easy! What more can you ask for in LA?! read more

Tried out this fairly new pottery studio (love the name btw!) located in Eagle Rock for a date night beginner's class as an intro to wheel throwing. The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable, but the experience itself felt rushed. It was a two-hour class, but between instructor demos and cleanup time, we only had about 45 minutes to actually work on our pottery. As total beginners, that just wasn't enough time to create something usable - I ended up with a lopsided container that I wouldn't even call a bowl! I'm not sure how they expected us to walk away with a nice bowl to use. The class size (10 people) also felt too big for just one instructor, making it hard to get individual help when struggling, and I definitely was one of the ones needing help. While I know now that pottery isn't really my thing, I do appreciate the effort this little studio is making on providing a fun and creative space for the community and enjoyed trying the pottery wheel for the first time. I think if they extended the class time or reduced the class size, it would be a much better experience. read more

I have talked to endless amounts of people who have taken a class here/have a membership/attended an event and everyone has had nothing but AMAZING things to say about all aspects of this studio ! I finally got to experience it for myself when they opened up to the public for free as a sanctuary to those affected by the wildfires in LA for a whole week to play with clay and relax. The space is so serene and tranquil but also is amazing for making connections and sharing art/having fun. Every single person i encountered each day was so incredibly kind and friendly, staff and members alike :) it's a very supportive space with people who know what they're doing and know how to teach. (I've never touched clay before). The owner lauren is an absolute delight and so passionate about her space and what she provides. i recommend checking it out to any capacity, but at least once, you will fall in love!!! read more

We signed up for a beginner's Sunday session and it was so much fun! We had Joe as our instructor and he was the best teacher! The whole experience felt playful and enjoyable, all while trying a new skill. I've taken ceramics classes at two other places now and Not Another Pottery Studio stands out. All the staff members are so friendly and helpful. They also give access to many great glazes and tools students don't typically get to use. I love that they have some level two and three classes for beginners as well. They use a system that allows us to know exactly when our pieces are ready. You can only appreciate this if you've been to another studio where your pieces are all mixed in and you have to dig to find your piece. It's a really beautiful space to work in and the setup leads to friendly conversations with other students and members. There is metered parking right by the studio but a block away is free street parking. Also lots of fun shops and coffee shops nearby if you're not familiar with the area. I also just took a glaze class from Lauren the owner and she was amazing about sharing all her knowledge and her passion for helping each person wherever they are in their pottery experience was clear. read more

I'd been wanting to get into pottery since Covid but was a complete novice, so I signed up for the beginner 1 class at NAPS. After the first class, I told my husband I wanted to quit because it was harder than I expected it to be and my work looked like shite. But the instructor's (Mimi) charm and expertise brought me back again and again, as well as the warm camaraderie of everyone there. Fast forward to now and I am fully obsessed and about to take my third class. It is a safe space where you can make mistakes, learn, and laugh, but it's also a wonderful community that Lauren has carefully crafted. You are always made to feel welcome and there's no snootiness or gatekeeping - which I think is rare and special. Additionally, it's an airy, light-filled space, there are ample wheels and tools, and lots of glaze options to choose from, as well as a simple but effective system where you can track where your pieces are (bisque, glaze, etc). If you are considering a class or membership, just know: you are welcome, you will learn, you will find good folks there. read more

This is not just another pottery studio, it is a magical oasis of calm, joy and creativity. The second you enter, your blood pressure drops and you are warmly welcomed in by Lauren, the incredibly wonderful owner. I first experienced the studio on a weekend soon after the fires, in which Lauren offered free time and clay (and juice boxes!) to all - young or old. A few friends and I came with our young daughters, who loved it. Soon after, Lauren was generous enough to hold a session for a group of my middle school students - all of whom have lost their school and homes in the fire. When we arrived, Lauren had thoughtfully set out snacks and waters for the girls as well as offered them beauty products that had been donated. At first, the girls were quiet and shut down. But as soon as Lauren sweetly and gently began her lesson and the girls dug their hands into the clay, they came alive and transformed back into to their silly, chatty selves. It was astonishing. Lauren's studio is beyond healing. It's a community space filled with warmth and light. If you're going through a hard moment, go make a pinch pot and watch your stress melt away. I have now taken 2 classes at NAPS and with each one I fall more and more in love with making ceramics- officially addicted! Lauren (the owner) is lovely and the staff equally so! There's an authentic sense of community and it's been a nice bonus to make new friends while doing something creative & relaxing. I took a 4-week sculpture class, as well as a 4-week coil building class and both teachers were excellent (shout out to Christina & Liz!) I'm really enjoying hand building and plan to take more classes. If I manage to keep it up, I may just have to become a member.
