The final product is so poorly constructed that I have spent spent thousands of dollars in additional legal and engineering fees in an attempt to recoup costs for what is clearly a poorly executed project. But don't take my word for it. Here is a direct quote from the engineering report I commissioned: "The patio slab exhibits grading and finishing defects that cause ponding and direct runoff toward the structure and toward the pool perimeter. The patio-to-garage interface lacks typical moisture clearance provisions, increasing deterioration risk. The pergola structure exhibits material deviations from the structural drawings in anchorage, weld completeness, connection detailing, and framing geometry that may compromise structural performance and safety. The polycarbonate roof panels retain water within internal cells, indicating deficient edge detailing and/or installation coordination. The original pool equipment pad distress further reflects early construction deficiencies and inadequate support and/or detailing at slab-to-structure interfaces. The pool installation deviates from manufacturer requirements for hydrostatic relief, drainage, backfill separation, and impervious perimeter detailing, and the Terra Dura design drawings reviewed are inconsistent with the manufacturer's impervious surround requirement. Collectively, these conditions are foreseeable, preventable, and materially affect performance, durability, and safety. Overall, both the design coordination and installation workmanship for the patio, pergola, and pool installations are inconsistent with manufacturer requirements and accepted standards of good workmanlike construction."

Philip was hired to help remove a landscape which had just been installed a few months earlier…read more The design itself was very institutional in nature and wasn't very water friendly. A large majority of the plants had died and we ended up with a bit of a mess. Phil met me at my home and we discussed the issues with the plants and what we really wanted to happen. His standard charge was $100 for original consult and $1000 for design plan. I had called some other landscapers and these fees seemed to be on point. Philip took some photographs of my property in order to provide me with my design. Once he completed this, about a week after our first consult, he invited me over to his home so I could actually "see" some of the plantings he was going to suggest. Philip has quite an impressive garden and has been featured on PBS and other publications like the American Statesman. He provided me with 7 large "story boards" which had full color pictures in cooperating my original landscape design and what he was recommending. This was very helpful in determining Phil's vision. His design called for the complete removal of our grass in the back yard and putting flat stone in it's place. The removal of most of the plants already planted, in order to provide proper spacing and keeping our garden water conscious and maintenance free. The removal of all our morter/brick bed linings and replacing them with Moss Boulders. I was very unsure about the removal of our grasses and replacing it all with flat-stone, but Phil assured me it would be the best solution for our petite back yard. He did provide us with alternatives to this, but in the end we choose to follow Phil's vision. This did add a significant cost to our project as well. We provided Phil with a down payment of 50% of cost of our project. Phil showed up a few days later on time with a couple of crew members to uproot all the grass and prepare for the laying of the stone. The whole project was completed in a week or so and on budget. Our final rendition was a little different than the story board we received as far as plantings went, however the overall completion was just brilliant. He was right about the flat stone and I am very glad I took his advice and accepted his vision for our yard. Our yard isn't mature yet, the plantings will really be fully grown in probably a year or so. However, this in no way is a concern, since Phil went through this with me prior to the start. I would work with Phil if the need would ever come up and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a crisp, environmentally sensitive and pleasing "natural" garden. Great job Phil.

I mentioned that I maybe wanted a fire pit, and he found a way to create an incredible firepit centerpiece with a "floating" boulder. To complement that, he also made seating with a similar floating ascetic. Nothing was cookie-cutter; everything looks completely unlike anything I've seen from other companies. Just take a peek at their website - those designs are both cool but also thoughtful. We wanted a total backyard redo, including turning a pergola sitting unused in the middle of our yard into an outdoor living room cabana complete with a metal roof and decking flooring. We wanted so much, including but not limited to: ripping out an ugly stone patio off the house's back to replaced it with a roofed over decking floored dining area, then adding an open patio area with metal planters and built in decking bench seating. We wanted landscape lighting, welded metal edged flower beds, more planters, and by the time the project was almost done we added in having them do high quality artificial turf. They had to do wiring, plumb a propane line for a propane fire pit they made out of a huge boulder, roofing, metalwork, decking, planting design and implementation...they reworked and updated our irrigation... It was a lot and they were just amazing at all of it. Jensen cared as much about having everything done right as I did - and I am very picky about quality. And I can proudly say this backyard now looks amazing - like the boutique resort hotel outdoor lounging I was hoping for. We love being in that yard as much as possible now. When we first received Dreamscape's bid we wondered what the catch was since all the other companies' bids were so high even though it was an apple to apple comparison. To say it's the wild, wild west in the construction business is an understatement. The price of materials is the price so once you boil down costs you can see if someone is charging too much. It was refreshing to have a business charge a decent price while being able to make a profit for itself that wasn't going to end up with me sending their kids to Stanford. We had received a separate quote for outdoor lights that Mike was able to undercut significantly. Once work started Mike kept in constant communication with us to let us know what the status of his crew was for the day or week so we could plan our days accordingly. His general labor crew was extremely courteous and professional and cleaned up after each day. His stonework guys were the same and I was so impressed with their work that I added a new mailbox to the contract. For the past two years, we've had nasty flash floods that have left us collectively about $30,000…read morein debt, even with flood insurance. The house is built on a hill, and when a heavy rain hits us after a dry spell, bad things happen. When the last payout finally came in, we'd planned to earmark a big chunk for fixing the drainage once and for all. Enter Keep Austin Landscaped. Even though our house is small and they usually don't do such small jobs, they came up with a great plan to reroute the water from uphill and guide it around our house to prevent flooding. Initially they suggested an inexpensive galvanized wire and rock wall to keep the water from flowing into our house, but later decided that a better, solid concrete retaining wall would do the job better - - for just the same price. And then, of course, COVID happened. Nevertheless, the KAL team was still ready to work with us as long as we gave the workers their distance, which of course was only fair. I really appreciated them coming out and risking getting sick to do that work, especially when we were really scared that any time now we might flood again. Our uphill neighbors initially agreed to allow us to install a French drain on their property to allow water to drain into the alley behind our houses instead of into our house, but then reneged for reasons we still don't understand. We offered to adjust planning to take any specific concerns into account or seek mediation, but they insisted that we not do anything on their side of the hill. Of course it's difficult to route water away from a house down hill if you can't do anything before the water gets there! The nice folks at KAL tried several times to speak to my neighbors in both English and Spanish on our behalf, and in the end our neighbors allowed them to complete the plan by extending gravel drainage along the shared fence. We've just had the first heavy rain after a dry spell since they've been out here, and not a hint of flooding. Working with them has been an absolute joy, and we heartily recommend them for anyone with a landscaping or drainage issue.
