I had Constant Gardening install some new zoysia turf in my backyard as well as create an area of river rock bounded by bender board. He also planted some bushes in the rock area and made some minor irrigation adjustments. It all turned out great although his initial bid was not sufficient to cover all the grass area we had agreed on, so we had to negotiate some additional cost. He was reasonable. Working with Constant Lawn and Gardner was easy. Roberto Castañeda took responsibility for all the details of our Project (one stop shop). The nature of our Project involved a number of different details including patio deck design, metal work (for our steel railing), landscape modifications including modifying our existing gutter downspout and modifying our ground cover rocks, metal boarder. It was a challenge to find a one stop shop, but Roberto's team stepped up to that challenge and did a great job. The scope of the Project: 1) increase our patio deck stairs' landing area by 35% making it safer for those exiting and entering our rear patio. 2) demolition of the existing cedar deck materials to be replaced by Trex composite requiring little to no maintenance moving forward 3) frame out the new patio landing and stairs, adding 2 additional stairs to make the overall patio stairs solution safer 4) remove and redirect our gutter downspout so that it was not in the way of the newly installed patio stairs 5) modify the steel railing on the old stairs to accommodate the larger footprint of the new landing and additional stairs They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, so I'll let the following "before" and "after" pictures speak for themselves read more

This is not a company you go to for gardening. This is not a company you go to for garden planning. He never did present the plan he was contracted to do. He never did many of the things he was contracted to do. Instead, we discovered that he was going to plant bougainvillea (a plant that doesn't do well in Central Texas) in an area that had no irrigation whatsoever. Instead, we discovered that he was going to plant an olive tree three feet away from the house and next to the entrance. These should never be planted in close proximity to a house. Most of all, this is NOT a company you hire to plant fresh sod. Even on the first day of being planted, everyone in the neighborhood - and the 5-star irrigation company (on Yelp and Google) that installed and maintains our system - called it "SECOND HAND grass." At least a fourth of the sod pieces were DOA! The day after the sod was planted, we had the huge rain storm that caused Waller Creek - in close proximity - to flood dangerously. Everything got massively soaked. Two days after planting, the bad grass still looked dead. Roberto had the audacity to say that the sod wasn't getting enough water. When it wasn't raining, the irrigation system was delivering at least 1/2 an inch of water each day and sometimes twice that. Two weeks later, the bad grass was still dry, dead or dying. Meanwhile, the sod pieces that had looked okay in the beginning were doing okay, so it wasn't a matter of not getting enough water. He claimed that he sourced this sod from a ranch that gets many bad reviews on Google. Every opportunity was given to Roberto Castañeda, the owner and lead man of this company, to correct the problems he caused. We waited weeks for him to complete what he was contracted to do and even paid him almost 75% of the budget in advance because he requested it so desperately. We revised everyone's schedule to allow for him to travel for family reasons on two separate occasions. I'm giving the Constant Lawn & Gardener one star for his initial enthusiasm... he really does have a warm and convincing personality! Until he doesn't. I figure that he couldn't afford to replace the bad sod. I'm giving him a second star for the excellent stone and paver work he did. In that regard, he's very good. I could add quotes from the nurseries, irrigation specialists, and knowledgeable home gardeners we've been in touch with since this incident, but this review would get too long. We hired The Constant Lawn & Gardener to do some work for us in our backyard in November 2022. My wife had been wanting a greenhouse for a long time, but we didn't have a good foundation to put it on. We also have dreamed of grading and xeriscaping the area around our pergola for years as the area around it was unattractive, unlevel and not really usable for anything. Rob, Lorenzo and the entire team were so great through the entire process. They helped us decide exactly what we should do, gave us ideas and pointers on the best way to go about doing it, were easy to work with and didn't hesitate to make changes or adjustments on the few occasions we decided to add to or change the plan. Where do I begin? I had an extensive weed problem on one side of my yard along the fence line. Between the rain and the heat that followed it got progressively worse. Roberto came out and was nice enough (but not for very long). I needed the weeds dug out, weed barrier put down, and topped with mulch. I had the weed barrier and the mulch. I explained the weed barrier needed to be running behind and in front of my plants but he strongly recommended only in the back and the nutsedge weeds would not get through 3" of mulch installed in front of the plants. Well, he was very wrong there. They also were to check that all the plants had an adjustable bubbler. He went on how his guy was certified in irrigation. He gave me a quote for weeding, laying the barrier and mulch, plus more mulch he said he would need to get, any irrigation adjustment, and a charge of $125 for trash disposal. I let him know that I had large lawn paper trash bags that cost me $2.50 as they only used 2. I pay for garbage pick-up so why should I pay $125 for them to dispose of a few bags? Roberto gave me an initial quote of $370 for all the work but I knew it was a job out on the heat, so I said let's make it an even $400. I mentioned to give a hardscape quote as well but to wait how this current job goes. Glad I waited. The invoice ended up being $435 with tax but I held the check a day until they fixed the severed line. All was done but when I checked more closely the next day, I noticed the mulch was not covering the weed barrier, or the ground in front of the plants, here and there plus one of the bubblers needed to be re-attached to the main tubing line as it was severed from the main line during whatever they did. It was NOT like that before. I had that part of my yards irrigation off since I could not see where all the bubblers were, but he offered to come back in a week to re-visit so when I stated I cannot keep my irrigation off any longer his response was 'that's totally up to you'. Also, he ask what plant on a vine I had and took a picture of my clematis flowers. He had no idea what it was. Hmm, I do not think he knows plants or gardening and only hardscape. He did inform me he could do some extensive hardscape on my side yard which I was planning to hire him to do. But changed my mind after they came back out the next day to fix bubbler tubing that was cut off from the main line, which I had so they could use it, and added more mulch. He texted he had full confidence his guy did not damage it. The next day that same tubing with bubbler was sticking up and not attached. Apparently his 'certified' irrigation guy did not attach the tubing to the main line correctly. Nutsedge weeds were up an growing the next day along with the attached picture. So, his response to the severed, or possibly unattached bubbler with tubing, I sent him a picture of it via email. Horrid response: "That's the end of the drip line. Just tuck it under the mulch. Case closed. For future reference, we choose to no longer do business with you and wish you the best." See the attached picture and tell me how that answer even makes sense. How is that bubbler attached to anything? The tubing is up in the air attached to nothing. How professional of him. The picture of the weeds is a small example of what I have to maintain again. I did the other side of my yard a few months before and placed weed barrier with mulch front and back of the plants and minimal to no weeds since I had a hard time installing with arthritis. read more

Roberto and his team were amazing! My yard was thoroughly dead after the winter storm and it was taken over by 3 foot tall weeds. I got a few quotes from some landscaping companies, and Roberto was the most competitive quote I received! Roberto stopped by my house (it just so happens that we live down the road from each other) to go over what I wanted to do. My intents were very simple landscaping: replacing grass, adding mulch, and laying down slabs and gravel as a walkway on my side yard. Throughout the process, Roberto was very accommodating to my schedule and his communication to me was A+. Very disappointed in this experience. Agreement was half-payment upfront, remainder at completion. But shortly after the work started, Roberto claimed that there was an "accounting issue" and requested the remaining balance sooner. Once that second payment was made, the quality and attentiveness dropped significantly. Many other issues but here's a sampling: Requested that excess stones from the landscaping be placed in a particular location. Roberto agreed, but the stones were instead just dropped in an empty spot in my backyard. I pointed this out, and Roberto said his team would move them to where I asked, but that never happened. Same thing for some leftover topsoil - asked that it be placed in a specific location so I could use it. Instead it was dumped somewhere else, and then spread out so it'd be very inconvenient to re-use. Requested a list of the plant names so I'd know how to care for them. Roberto was happy to agree, but then never provided the list. The worst issue was that several plants weren't planted correctly. The holes were clearly not deep enough so their roots were left exposed. Roberto acknowledged the issues and sent someone out to fix them. I'm not sure what the crew did that day, but nothing was actually fixed. I explained that the problems persisted and sent more pics showing that no improvements had been made. Roberto agreed, apologized and said he'd send a different crew out, but that didn't happen ... never heard from him again. Edit: responding to Roberto's reply - as I mentioned above, he did say he could send another crew out. But he offered no details or schedule or any other follow up. And a crew was never sent. Again, this is after they got the planting wrong two times. read more

Did I mention in my last review how great Roberto and his team are? It was time to have my two oak trees trimmed. I called him, and within a couple hours he responded, and said he would have his arborist come drive by to give me an estimate. He texted me the information, and I agreed. He said it would be done within the week. Next morning, at a little after 8AM, there was a "team" of guys already starting on my trees. They raised the canopy and trimmed the branches, and cleaned up all after they were finished. They did a GREAT job! Very efficient! read more

Roberto and Marvin worked with to design lawn. I wanted something that was drought friendly but not sacrificing green ground cover. Roberto searched for my chosen clover seed mix and made sure it was high quality. I'm just starting to see the seed start to make with micro clover and arrow leaf clover mixing in with the native grass. We also lined the backyard with pollinator friendly plants. I think I'll also scatter some wildlife seed when spring comes. Roberto's team also expanded the back patio and covered a large portion of the side yard with gravel so it wouldn't be muddy all the time. I'm excited to get a garden going in the backyard now that it's a much inviting and pleasant place to be. I contracted Constant Lawn to renovate my backyard. They constructed a paver patio around my pool, installed a sprinkler system, a fence around pool pumps, and an outdoor shower. Robert is a very nice guy, a decent human being, and easy to communicate with. We came in over-budget, which is my only complaint. But it was ultimately worth it, because the construction was remarkably efficient. Robert told me it would take 2-3 weeks and, in my experience, 2-3 weeks usually means 4-6 weeks. I had an estimate for the work from them. It was a generalized bid which they required 50% down (A warning sign) before they could start the project. I paid the money in October/November and the project started in January (My fault for payiong in advance.) They went way over the budget. Poor supervision of the workers. The workers had minimal landscaping experience. The crew showed up a day earlier at which time I had appointments all day so I could not oversee any work. A worker cut the irrigation electrivcal system in two places without notifying me and the attempt at the repair crossed the wires on the system which shorted out. Repair of the irrigation cost me 2 K. Manager of the project would not assume any responsibility. The other issues are minor compared to these. read more
