For the past 5 years, I have lived with agonizing pain, after a visit with Lance Moore. In his office, my story started when I was 29 years old and about to start nursing school. What should have been a typical visit to the chiropractor in hopes of relieving some generalized, mild muscle aches, turned into emergency room visits, epidural injections, nerve conduction studies, MRIs, x-rays, 9 months of physical therapy, trigger point injections, pain meds, muscle relaxers, heating pads, acupressure mats...and guess what is next on my list? Cervical disc replacement surgery. That's right-- I get to have a 5cm incision made across my throat in order for the Neurosurgery team to remove my herniated disc and replace it with an artificial one. I likely won't be able to speak or eat solid foods for 2 weeks after surgery. I'll require 6 months of recovery time and many more months of physical therapy and pain management. My family will have to fly across the country to take care of me after surgery. My boyfriend has become my nurse: having to help me get dressed, drive me to appointments, stay up all night on those agonizing sleepless nights, and bring me tissues for all of the tears of pain. Since seeing Lance Moore, I've taken a medical leave of absence from school and have been left with no option other than to put my academic and career aspirations on hold until I am healthy enough to resume them. I am now 34 years old and I have lost more than 5 years of my life and career to excruciating pain and countless sleepless nights. As I write this, my hand is blue and cold to the touch because the nerves that control my arm and hand are not getting enough blood due to the spinal cord compression in my neck. I hurt my back playing some sport at first I thought it would go away little did I know 2 months later it just kept getting worse. I tired massage to get my back pain out for a bit and it did not help. Luckily I found this place and they were great to me. We're able to pencil me in right away and most of the paint was gone a week after my first visit and after my 2 I would say 99% of it was gone. I went here after waking up in the morning unable to walk. I had never tried alternative medicine so I must admit I was a bit apprehensive coming in but the staff made me comfortable and excited for the process from start to finish. When I walked in I was greeted by Sam who was super friendly and attentive to my needs. It's nice to step into a space where all the staff is getting along and everyone truly believes in the success of their practices and you could really feel that energy in there. Sam, Martina, and Melanie kept me entertained and learning about what they do there and how much it was going to heal me and how excited they personally were to see how I felt after. When Dr. Lydia came to retrieve me in my gimpy state I was in I was ready and my mind was super open to whatever was about to happen. When I got in it was super clean and there a very healing tribal flute music permeating the air to keep you nice and relaxed while she breathes with you and fills your pressure points with thin needles to relieve the tension and open up your muscles. She really has a deep passion for what she does rooting back to her upbringing in Poland and takes the time and grace to tell you what's happening inside your muscles as you go through the process. Afterwards she followed up with a cupping procedure which felt like and octopus was being moved along my back sucking my skin from the muscles further opening them to heal. Dr Lydia was super gentle I trusted her every step of the way and also loved learning about the science behind it. When I got out of that room I felt so much more refreshed I was back to walking and my entire demeanor had changed from grumpy to stoked. Next up I was offered a trial run in their sounds lounge. This this is a relaxing little trip. Sam and Martina were there to help me choose my program with enthusiasm and laughs. The bed is so comfy it's like a gel cloud and once you've got the whole thing fired up with the sounds the lights and you're in the moment you feel like you transcend into a different world which I'm sure all of us are ready to leave this reality for a little while. I'd rate higher if I could! Dr. Kurt is the best. I wanted nothing to do with a chiropractor but my husband talked me into seeing Dr. Kurt. I told Dr. Kurt that I didn't want to be 'cracked' at all. He is so sweet and didn't look at me like I was crazy. For me, he uses different tools to break up old scar tissue and manipulates with massage and stretch etc. He also gives me tips and stretches that I can do to help my situation. When I began seeing Dr. Kurt I had very little neck rotation and now I can actually turn my head to the side which for me in remarkable!! When I asked how often I should come in, he said whenever I'm feeling locked up again which I really appreciate. He is very passionate about EVERYONES wellbeing!! Dr. Shaffana is a life changer! She is the type of doctor that you wish every single person could see. If you don't feel like reading this long explanation, just know that I walked into her office feeling miserable and three weeks later I was a new person, feeling like my old happy self again!!! Dr. Shaffana focuses on brain health and stress and I hesitate to attempt to explain how she does what she does because I am no doctor and I'm afraid I can't do the science behind it justice. But, just to give you an idea of my experience, I'll try to type out a little explanation. After a thorough consultation about how I was feeling, my lifestyle, etc. I took a urine and a saliva test to see my neurotransmitter levels. Cortisol, serotonin, dopamine, things like that. Once she could see my levels, she created a protocol for me which includes lifestyle recommendations, diet recommendations, and supplements. The most important part is that rather than seeing that something is low, say, my cortisol, and then just prescribing a cortisol supplement, she has me take and do things that will help my body begin to produce the cortisol it needs. So rather than taking cortisol for the rest of my life, I'm on a path to have my body produce cortisol like it should. This is her approach, it's science based and it really works. I went in, I wouldn't say skeptical, but, I wouldn't have been surprised if I didn't see a change. After three weeks, I was and still am truly shocked at how much better I feel! I really hope that people try this approach because it is a life changer!!! I also want to note that Dr. Shaffana is a very easy person to talk with and the process isn't pushy or woo woo (if you know what I mean). It has been a great experience! Best chiropractor in San Diego! The staff are super friendly and the space is clean and welcoming! They always offer tea, coffee, waters, and even snacks before the appointment. The vibroaccoustic tables are super unique and a awesome cherry on top after your adjustment because it puts you in a meditative state without you even trying ! The adjustments and equipment used during the adjustments are always top notch like the red light therapy and the rapid release therapy. After seeing my previous chiropractor for nearly 20 years, I was very nervous about starting a relationship with a new one. My husband and I relocated to San Diego and seeing this location on the corner near our new home was perfect. A bit of research and several dog-walks' worth of peeking in their window and we decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment. We were greeted warmly and the new-patient procedures were a breeze. Pricing was reasonable and although we knew our insurance wouldn't cover the services, Sam was perfect and insisted she double check-- just in case. While it was confirmed that our insurance plan would not cover the services, we were (and still are) happy to pay their very reasonable rates. They also have plans that they call 'Care Packages' where you can buy your visits in bulk and you can save some money--perfect for us, because we are once-a-weekers. We scheduled with Dr. Moore and he is so great. He listens to what ails us, and adjusts you accordingly--and of course, he will release things that you didn't realize were out of wack (that unexpected and immediate opening of the sinus feelin is A-MA-ZING). He also does some little 'tricks' like telling you to wiggle your toes just as he is about to do some major adjustment on your neck, so that you don't tense up as much, which allows him to get a more proper adjustment in. Dr. Moore is such a laid back guy- he maintains professionalism, and his 'Doc Small-Talk' doesn't feel forced or cheesy--you will have real, genuine conversations. He remembers the conversations you've had, vacations you talk about, and just who you are as a person in general. He also is a great recommender of bars and restaurants ;) Possibly my favorite part of this office is that they also have a bit of a physical therapy component. Calina (I realllly hope I spelled her name right) is nothing short of amazing. She will do what she can to make you comfortable if you're in any pain and she goes above and beyond to make sure you have the tools and knowledge you need to be able to continue the maintenance on your body. She will get on the floor to show you the best ways to stretch the muscles you need to work on, she will do laser and heat therapy on your tight muscles, and my least favorite, (but most necessary) she will make sure she rolls out your tight and overworked shoulders (ouchhhh). She is so sweet and encouraging and makes me want to be in better shape. And I would be remiss not to mention the first person you see when you walk in the door, Brittany! She greets you with such a sweet smile and is very patient in helping me figure out my appointments, as I am extremely forgetful. She is a huge help to the office when she helps other clients in Spanish. I know first hand how much of a relief it is when you're able to communicate effectively in a language that you're comfortable speaking. I'm thankful that this office has such an asset in Brittany.
