This was the best accident ever! It's not everyday I'm blown away by a random place that was not on…read morethe radar at all. I must have passed this restaurant hundreds of times, and never noticed it. Easy easy 5! We were looking for another familiar restaurant we had tried before after dropping off my vehicle for repairs. After finding out it had closed, we moved on down the road, and stopped here. It was empty and we were the only ones there. It's nothing fancy, could use an update and some repairs. Other than that it was very nostalgic, as it reminded us of a lot of the smaller places we had eaten at in Mexico. First the waitress/hostess was amazing! She was polite, talked to us for several minutes, and explained the history and dishes. It was as close to traveling to Mexico as you can get. The misses had huevos rancheros #2, and I had the chicharron plate with double charro beans. First they make your orders fresh when you order. She politely explained it to us, that it would be a small wait. No vats of premade food. It shows!! When they brought out our food, it was in beautiful barro(fired clay). It look worn and used, not as gimmick like some places in town. The Star, the food, was outstanding! Some of the BEST charrro beans I've had in a while. They were as good as mine, and I've won cooking contests with my recipe. I'm very picky with my chicharron. I don't like the slimy, big vat of gelatinous misery you get served everywhere here in town. These were made to order, and still had the crunch. It lets the flavor shine through, and doesn't rely on the sauce to carry the plate. The sauce was not too spicy. I had corn tortillas and they were amazing as well! The huevos rancheros were great too! The potatoes, and the refried beans were surprisingly great. It reminds me of my grandma making breakfast! I guess when you're making your food as you order, it comes through in your final product! Again, no place is perfect. Where the corn tortillas were amazing, the flour tortillas were flaky(not in a good way, and overcooked. Also, I think the coffee may have been a slight too old. Had a slight bitterness to it. Where the green sauce was great, the weird reddish sauce was honestly a little off putting. Don't put it on anything till you try it! No thank you for us! It was affordable, delicious, and great service! Can't ask for anything else! I HIGHLY recommend this gem, and we are DEFINITELY coming back!! My bonus little rant...I don't understand the criteria for being an elite reviewer...I have read ten recent reviews from other elites, they were three sentences..never said what they ordered, what they specifically liked and didn't?!!! Do better!
