This was a nostalgic revisit for us. Have not visited in quite awhile. The midget was craving it. I caved. Glad I did. I was so happy that they brought back the quality, and great service we remembered from years ago. To be honest, I missed the menudo, still one of the best in all of San Antonio IMO. The menus are redone. It seems cleaner too. Our waitress was great! It wasn't crowded like we remember right after a church service, glad it wasn't. We ordered the beef fajita quesadilla for an appetizer, I had the large menudo, and the little one had a bean and cheese plus a potato and egg. First the flour tortillas were much improved from the last item we were here. That's saying a lot since I'm not a huge fan of flour tortillas. The menudo was as great, if not better than I remember! Perfectly spiced with a kick, and NO PIG FEET! Yay! Throw in the onion and diced jalapeno and I couldn't ask for nothing more. The midget loved the tacos! Here is the greatest surprise of all. The quesadilla, as simple of a dish as it is, was out of this world. Get this, they ask you if you want white or yellow cheese. Yes I know that's not what they are named, but you get the point! They asked! It was a very welcome highlight to our lunch! Here are the two gripes, not too bad. One, the coffee we all used to love and crave changed. I don't want to say they changed companies or it was old, but it definitely was not the same. It was just meh. Also, if they just started at least offering, even for an upcharge homemade corn tortillas...man they would kill it! Overall I'm super happy they improved! Love this little staple off 90 in the heart of Castroville. Only a few blocks from my home, we make a weekend pilgrimage here at least once a week. All of their dishes have been really good. I even hear they make good burgers. I would not order charro beans again, as I don't particularly care for chopped up hot dogs in my pinto beans, but I know it's done in some places. Great spot to stop after a weekend at the river! Not only is the food authentic and handmade but it's delicious! The carne guisada is tender and not chewy, the tortillas are fluffy, and the pancakes are cooked to perfection. We loved everything we ordered so much that we forgot to take good pictures of our plates. I've never been to Castroville. We were just passing through on our way back home to San Antonio. We decided to stop to get a bite to eat. Let me tell you this tiny little spot is so worth it in every possible way!! They have about 6 tables. It honestly feels like you're at your Tias or moms home. The waitress who tended to us was extremely nice and friendly. The ambiance was right on point. Now let's talk about the food. We decided to order the enchilada plate to play it safe. Especially since we've never been here before. We didn't even wait more than 5 mins for our food. It was hot, fresh and oh my gosh delicious!! And this place is outstanding when it comes to homemade cooking!! The cook, cooks with passion and you can definitely taste it in his food. His enchiladas, rice and refried beans are all made from scratch. His homemade tortillas are made by hand. I am extremely impressed by the service and food. Delicious breakfast tacos! We bought extra for tomorrow's breakfast. Corn tortillas and a nice spice to the hot sauce.

We were a little cautious since we have never heard or seen this place before. From outside it looks very small and is an older building, but we went in anyway. It was close to closing time so only us and another couple were there, there are only 6 tables inside but ot was very clean and tidy. We were sat down right away and our waitress came straight to us. We ordered our food and it all came out very quickly, all of the the food was hot and fresh and delicious! Our waitress checked in on us probably every 5 minutes or so to make sure everything was ok and that everything tasted good. I usually like small "hole in the wall" spots cause their food is authentic (except for the plastic on my bacon). Food overall was not bad and seemed fresh, but HIGHLY recommend To Go. Dining area is as big as your living room, so imagine the noise having roughly 15 people sitting there and eating and yelling over each other. We came at 1230pm on Saturday 12/4. And the patio is no better, you're practically on the side walk so street noise is a bear. The two older servers don't seem to care too much, have no real training in customer service, food handling, or cleaning appropriately. Overall not a bad place to stop. Needed to eat something quick and I love to try mom and pop restaurants. This is definitely a small mom and pop. There is probably 7 tables total and very very small. The service was friendly and clean for a real old building. I love mole (Spanish gravy made of peanut butter and chocolate if done right) so I decided to try it here since it seemed like a place mamma might cook. Well if I have a little something to complain about it would be that. The mole was runny and lacked the "strong" mole taste. It was not bad but it wasn't mole. The enchiladas were full with chicken which was a big plus. The rice and beans were taste. It a nice little place to stop and to support local owners. Price is fair and staff was friendly. I was excited to find what seemed to be a cozy gem that reminded me of the small town that I came from. I had taken my son who was excited to try their nachos and I had the huevos rancheros. The waitress asked if I wanted to add bacon or ham and I responded, "No thank you. Just the eggs and beans please." My food arrived and the eggs were perfect, beans were good, but they added potatoes, and the tortillas were very small. I mentioned to the waitress that I had not ordered potatoes. She looked at me and apologized but then did not come back to our table until asked. I then realized my son was not eating and he stated the nachos tasted stale. I tasted the nachos and agreed the chips were hard and tough to bite. I then told the waitress if I could order a taco due to the chips tasting stale. Her face appeared bothered but said, "Sure." We ordered a quick taco and returned the full plate of nachos. I then saw a tall man stand and walk over to waitress saying something under his breath and they both laughed. He then returned to his table with a plate of nachos. The waitress brought my son's taco and the tortilla was burnt. We decided not to mention this due to the treatment we were receiving. At that time, the waitress noticed my coffee cup empty and said, "Oh we only have decaf coffee left. Sorry." For the remainder of our meal, the waitress did not refill our drinks or check on us. My 12-yr-old son and I felt very unwelcomed and uncomfortable so I went to pay. When the waitress rang me up, she had applied the $1 extra for potatoes and included the nachos. I explained that we shouldn't pay for the nachos because they were stale and sent back. She stated it was not up to her but the owner who was sitting at a table. This was the same man who had laughed with her earlier after we returned nachos and had ordered himself nachos. The tall man quickly jumped up and said, "Oh! You don't want to pay!" I replied, "No sir, I did not say that, but I don't feel I should pay for the nachos that were sent back due to being stale." I then explained my experience with the order and waitress. He said in a very upset tone, "Well we don't want you to come back here to just have another bad experience, so you can go, and you don't have to pay." I then replied, "Sir, why are you so angry? This doesn't have to be this way. I am willing to pay for the food we ate, even the food I didn't order, but I am a single mother and money matters to me. I shouldn't pay for stale food that was taken back. I should be able to say to you that something was not good." He then said in a very loud voice, "I am mad. People love our food and never complain. Our food is made fresh everyday, so I take this personal. Most customers that just want eggs and beans tell us no potatoes. You can go and not pay." The menu shows that eggs and beans are a plate. I did tell the waitress exactly what I wanted. Even though it was just a dollar extra it was their mistake. No customer should pay for stale food that was sent back. Good customer service should not humiliate people for politely being honest. I was uncomfortable and my son felt awful for even sending back the stale food. read more

It's time to reveal the gem of Castroville. Didn't want to say anything because my wife and I don't want to wait to eat due to everybody rushing to Andrea's to eat. This by far is the best Mexican restaurant in town. Their food is beyond good. It is REAL good. Marinated pork chop plate, taco or with hue is rancheros. The topping sauce on the side is excellent. Carne guisada and picadillo plates, taco, or with eggs is the way to go. Menudo and Barbacoa are good too. I like the veggi taco that comes with egg, onion, bell pepper, and Serrano peppers. It is delicious. The tortillas are unique.They are not 10 or 12 inchers but very tasty. They are not soft but a different texture BUT really good. They don't serve chips or salsa or hand made corn tortillas. The corn are out of a package BUT when you order corn, they give you two corn tortillas over lapping each other in the plate. The best time to eat at Andrea's is around 9:30. Everybody's gone to work and the place is yours. Every once in a while you owner (Alex) will serrated you from the kitchen(Alex, don't leave your day job) If you go on the weekends expect to wait. But you do have an option to eat outside o n the wrap around counter. They will serve you there. The music is always on and you can sing if you like. The coffee is excellent too. read more

Very rude with my 70 year old mother made her stand and wait for her corn tortillas that were in the counter even after she had pointed out they were on the counter my mother has a noticable handi cap and can not walk or stand for too long the lady that works there told my mom she was tending to another customer which came after her..my mom had paid for her Barbacoa which comes with terrible flour tortillas so my mom buys corn for herself.
