I searched the used section and found records that were on my wish list that were of great value. Street parking is limited. My tip is to park in the lot behind the store. I am always impressed every time I stop into Record Head at 7045 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis/WI. A HUGE selection of new and pre-owned vinyl records. The staff is always SUPER FRIENDLY, Eager to help, and they offer the Best Customer Service experience in my opinion (no cap). The inventory of LP's is Crazy insane, The LPs are always so organized, which makes it great to easily search your favorite artist, bands, or groups. The prices are great and you will find exactly what you're looking for. If you don't just ask their incredibly warm staff members and if they don't have something that you're looking for nine times out of 10, they can order it for you. You'll leave feeling, that you had an amazing experience at Record Head. shopping and looking around at their wide selection of physical media from vinyl records, CD's, video games + gaming equipment, along with of musical instruments, stereo equipment, turntables, t-shirts (I mean this store has just about everything). As mentioned the entire staff at Record Head is just SUPER, SUPER Amazing, they build an amazing rapport whether it's your first time in there or you're 110 millionth time in there / I've been to a number of Record stores over the years in The Wisconsin area, and I've been met with icy, cold, frigid, and nasty customer service experience (overall), and sometimes all it takes is one bad experience and you're like I don't ever wanna go back there. Like with other record stores, it's almost like they don't want you to be in their store looking around at their inventory, or asking any questions at the merchandise. And when you've got a business, that is essentially your bread and butter, so to all record stores please take a seat and several notes from one of the Best records stores and customer Service etiquette. This store was a little out of the way for me on my Milwaukee trip, but my Dad told me I should check them out, so I did. Ended up buying about 10 records and found some really amazing and a couple rare releases. They have tons of new sealed albums, somewhat limited on used, but the new stuff is great. I found an excellent selection of rock, blues, jazz, and country/folk. I'll definitely be going back again, there's plenty of stuff I had to leave behind because I was spending too much money. Hopefully some of it's there on my next trip. Store staff is knowledgeable and really friendly too. It's a mixed income neighborhood, and they're friendly, caring, and helpful to anyone who walks in for any reason. Plenty of street parking and a small lot in the back of the store. The store is clean, big, well sorted. Prices are pretty average, but there's some good deals as well on overstocks and ding/dents. They weren't gouging like some of the other stores in town. Definitely my favorite store I visited on this Milwaukee trip. Looks like they had a lot of stereo equipment, CDs, accessories and maybe movies? The customer service is pretty terrible. I brought my turntable in to be serviced, was initially turned away because the technician felt it worked fine. I asked him to do a diagnostic test and cleaning anyway. Almost three weeks later he left me a voicemail stating my item was beyond repair with very little context. It seemed parts related, but that was all the information that was shared. When I called back to speak with him on the phone it took three attempts to get him to speak with me, he was rude, told me he didn't have the time to talk to me, but also couldn't tell me what was actually wrong with my product. His words verbatim were "i don't know. I don't have time for this, i'm building crates." When I picked up my item I was given a bag of loose screws with a random pieces of grey plastic included. I don't think this is the right spot if you are looking to have any of your hardware serviced. i'm left with a bag of loose screws, and no clear understanding of what was actually wrong with my product. The manager/owner felt more concerned with advocating for his employee's poor customer service when I followed up. You can't make everyone happy, and no business is perfect, but you can at least do the bare minimum which I was not afforded. If you're smart, take your business to Audio Shop in Racine. Or make the trip down to Chicago. Support small business always. But it's a two way street. TL:DR -- bad customer service and some apparent knowledge gaps. read more

I've been to my share of record stores, but Record Head remains one of my favorites. It has everything I look for: good selection of curated used vinyl at good prices and an equally nice selection of new vinyl. Some shops have more used than new and vice versa, but Record Head has the perfect balance. They also have some great bargain bins. I personally love digging through the crates looking for treasures. Looking for other forms of media? They have plenty: CD's, DVD's, games. They also sell used game systems, stereo equipment, and even musical instruments. Used CD stores seem to be disappearing in real life to only live on the Internet but this place is both. I first ordered from them on Amazon and then found them IRL and I'm happy I did. It's still easier for me to browse actual CDs than online but maybe that's just me. Good selection of jazz, rock, pop, less so for foreign non Western and classical but there is enough to warrant a monthly visit. They also sell some musical instruments old fashioned stereo audio equipment, vinyl, and some rock n roll tee shirts. Parking is easy, it's right across from Urban Joe's for some good coffee or soup. read more

They claim that they do better prices then their competitors, that competitor being gamestop. I brought in a ps5 that I had for 6 months, I was told over the phone I'd receive 250-300$ for the ps5 alone. I brought in a ps5 controller that was only used once and still looked brand new still in original packaging. The ps5 with the controller if I had taken it to GameStop would have been near 300$ along with me I brought video games of ranging prices. All together with gamestops maximum trade in price that should have been atleast 320. Everything was in pristine condition as well. If you are selling video games, go to mega media exchange they tell you exactly the price they'd give u over the phone. And they don't use eBay as a way to figure out the worth of your stuff. Not only is Record Head a regular stop of mine for vinyl and cds, tonight I returned a receiver I bought last week and had great experience doing so - which is definitely not the case everywhere. I was able to chat with Will and learn a lot about the equipment I was returning, about what else they had in store, and even about my equipment at home that had nothing to do with my visit. No doubt I'll be returning when I have questions and would recommend the same for those who want excellent customer service with technical troubleshooting. read more

I really like their used games and prices on the used games. I haven't explored much else, but they have a ton of musical instruments for sale as well as vinyl and CD's. The staff are really helpful and polite. Shopping here is always a pleasure. What's weird about this place is that it's closed on Saturdays. I stopped in for a record player and some vinyls not knowing much about either but everyone was extremely helpful and patient, they made me feel welcome and educated me. I bought a record player brand new that turned out to be faulty from the manufacturer, I brought it back in a few days later, they realized it was faulty and gave me a brand new one, tested it out in front of me and sent me on my way! We visited this neat little shop on a recent road trip - very nice staff and atmosphere! We took a look around at the variety of used stuff they had, including some random guitars which was pleasantly surprising. They recommended a local guitar store, thanked us for visiting from so far away, and gave us a great deal on some rock T's and their shop's "Record Head" logo shirts. Came to record head because I heard they buy old computers. When I arrived to the store I was greeted immediately and pointed in the right direction. Although the person who deals with buying used computers was on lunch, I did't mind the wait because there was lot to look at. The best part was they made me an offer on computer that didn't event turn on for them which was pretty cool of them to do. Very happy with what they offered me and definitely will recommend friends to try selling unwanted items to them first before looking else where. Interesting music store filled with heavy air freshener to cover up used record and music equipment odor. They have new and used albums and CDs. If you need a musical instrument, record player, iPad, computer monitor or amplifiers, there are usually a good amount in stock. They are closed on Saturdays. Staff can be hit or miss. I've seen employees lip off to and badmouth the boss and other employees. So not always professional atmosphere. We have found some good buys here though: a high quality center channel speaker for only $50 and a (new) rare CD set for $5. So if you can ignore the employees, you can find some bargains here. My husband says this place is just a cut above a pawn shop. I did find five great vinyls for $5.28. Was it worth the migraine I got? Kinda. read more

While it is nice, in theory, to have a locally owned music/movie/media store in the area, I have now twice witnessed remarkably rude and unprofessional behavior from the staff. I went in with the intention of browsing the used guitars, in hopes that I could find a good deal and help support the local business. Since I was going there anyway, I figured I'd bring in a few DVD's that I no longer have a need for. The employee (Alicia) didn't even look through my DVD's - she scoffed, and rudely said, "Ugh. I'm not taking those," in an apparent reaction to the one or two titles that she could see from a distance. I had more than a half-dozen movies in total, and she didn't even bother to look through them (they never left my possession; she made this assessment from across a counter), so there's no way she even knew what titles I had to offer, other than the (admittedly bad) movie at the top of my pile. To be clear, this wasn't said jokingly; she was extremely rude, turning back to what she was doing on her laptop. Now let me be clear:. They are in no way obligated to buy things they are not interested in. But, again, she couldn't possibly have known which other movies I had, and (most importantly) there is a polite way to pass on a purchase, and then there is the way that is so rude and unprofessional that it made me question whether or not I was the victim of a hidden camera show. Obviously, I immediately lost any interest I had in shopping for a guitar there. This was the second time I had personally witnessed an employee being remarkably unprofessional, in the span of about a month. While I hate to hold the store responsible for the bad behavior of an individual, they ARE the ones that hired them and apparently allow them the freedom to act this way. Other reviews also mention rude employee behavior, so I'm certainly not the first to see or comment on it. read more

My experience here is mostly shopping for vinyl records so my review is based from that stand point. I gave this place a shot mostly out of convenience (it was the closest record shop to me) and was pleasantly surprised at the vinyl selection. Considering it's more of a pawn shop, I was a bit skeptical, but the used selection is good. Nothing outstanding but good. Nice classic rock selection especially. Decent amount of hip hop compared to some other places in the area. The prices are pretty fair too. The last few times I was there everything I bought was on the median to low end of the price on discogs. They have a nice dollar bin selection which I am a sucker for. They have a great selection of used musical instruments and gear, which I love to browse through, but as of yet have not purchased anything. Lots of hi fi equipment. Haven't looked too closely at the prices on that stuff. Huge CD selection. Haven't tried to sell anything here. I haven't had much interaction with the staff at all actually - the mostly leave me alone when I'm browsing through records which is cool with me. As mentioned in the other reviews, they are not open on Saturdays which is very weird, and a negative for me. Overall, I've been here several times and will likely be back again. read more

There's a sign on the door that say Cash (for your stuff). I brought in a box of record albums and a box of DVDs and they didn't really seem to want to look at either. Said they didn't have an market for classical, opera, or jazz record albums so I picked out a half dozen albums from the 70's that I thought might be desirable. While I walked back to buy counter I noticed they had a jazz record section. She looked at 4 or 5 of the DVDs of a box of 30 or 40 and said she was going to pass they were all scratched up. Then she said I can do $5 for the albums for STORE CREDIT. On the other hand I sold 6 records for $5 so that was fine. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. Don't try to sell your DVDSs here and I wouldn bother with record albums either. Looks like a cool place to buy stuff, a good and interesting collection of goods, but maybe not the best place to sell. read more

We experience the uttermost humiliating treatment, from this business staff yesterday afternoon. We are a new non-profit organization for youth, dependent of local resident donations to maintain in operation. We called multiple business and opted to make business with Record Head; however prior to driving 1 hr. we provided a detail description over the phone on what we were looking to sell and asked if we could do anything else to have a good understanding of the merchandise. I was transferred to the " person in electronics that could make a decision" and was assured he was interested, and would pay us a fair price...specially That we had to drive 1 hr. and it was for a non-profit. After arriving at this facility we encounter 4 staff member arguing amongst each other on what was needed and not, using unfit foul language, and very unfriendly towards us. I explained that one of the staff member over the phone, had assure me to make it worth our time, and once again that we are dependent on donations for funding of our youth program. One of the staff began to tell me how our new merchandise was of no value, and had a vendor that would provide him with the same product at $0.10, for merchandise at retail value of $10.00 to 50.00. I assure him I was not a guru when it came to computer technology, but had already researched our merchandise, and only a direct buyer to china at mass quantity could obtain a price as low as $0.10. He said to my face I had no idea of what I was talking about, and plain and simple did not care if I walked out. I asked to have the store manager talk to me over the phone, since he was not available to explained the circumstances. I inform him we genuinely were a non profit, with a donation and not stolen merchandise. The he was welcome to look up my credentials on line, and verify my DL or business card. After our 5 min. Conversation, I hand the phone back to the insolent staff agent. He answers the phone by stating "do you want me to verify the non-profit?" I known all along by the behavior, that they assumed I was giving them a fake story. ( I HAVE A PSYCHOLOGY BACKGROUND FOR 15 YRS.) I was written a check for a humiliating amount, but accepted the amount since we had already wasted 3 hrs of our day, and a 1 hr. Drive. These people assume for one reason or another we had came in with stolen or unlawful merchandise, and was not given the benefit of the doubt to even ask me for a business card or ask to look us up on line. Before leaving, I provided the business not only our non-profit information, but our business information as well. I advised him that despite his judgment for ether being female, Hispanic, gay, or not dressed in a suit..... I was the founder of the organization, and worked hand in hand with our town circuit court and Judge!!! Its a shame to be balked by peoples assumptions and bias, and I have no words to describe the bullying of 4 male staff members. I hope the store manager takes the time to read this, and learn that this business staff are out of place on how customers are treated. read more

I bought a MXR phaser pedal here about a half a year ago for about $70, it lasted about two weeks. I called to complain but they could have cared less. It just seems like they sell junk. One time I asked to see some Danelectro pedal and the employee fit a broken knob back on it before showing me the item. Another time I went in to try out a pedal and the employee got into a heated argument with me over which sort of guitar I played, caused it mattered so much when it came to trying out pedals. My son and daughter recieved some older hand held systems from their aunt and uncle, I just had to get new chargers. I had ran to a different store which didnt have the right chargers, I called on my way and they had it. When I was there, everyone was very polite and very helpful. Once i got home, I realized I had one of the hand held systems wrong so it was the wrong charger. I called and told them what happened asking if they have the correct one, they did! It was about 7:05pm, they close at 7:00pm. They asked if I was close bc they would stay and told me I could still come in!!!!! I dealt with Al, he was so nice and customer service friendly!!!! I had brought the handheld system with me into the store just to make sure it was correct. He said since I had it with me he would test the battery to make sure its still good! The service they provided was above and beyond!!! I had never been in there although they gained a lifetime customer and I told everyone about my great experience! Thank you again!!!! read more
