Hair in the food I usually enjoy my dining here, but today I ordered a pizza and ended up sending it back after I bid into the second slice, hoping that all the dough was soggy. When they returned it, I found a short black hair on the first slice. I pointed it out to the waitress and showed her the hair still on my plate. The service here is horrible and the food is way over priced. It is good, not great, and definitely not good enough for the amount they charge. Restaurants that charge that much typically have way better food. We went during happy hour and the martinis are half price. Several of the martinis have funny names and the menu has no description. None of the wait staff can tell you what they are. Even 1 of the 2 bartenders did not know. Our waitress asked several coworkers and no one could tell her. She finally went and asked the 1 bartender and then forgot on her way back. My husband had to finally get up and go ask. Crab cakes 3/5 very bland and VERY small. They are full of crab. I would not pay $20 for 4 of these much less 2. Calamari 4/5 good amount but not amazing for $24. This is also an Italian restaurant, but they do not serve it with marinara. It is served with chipotle sauce??? I would not pay $24 for these. Surfer in Paradise martini 3/5 this rating is mostly because there was very little alcohol. I couldn't taste it or feel it. Since no one who works there can tell you, it is pineapple juice, blue curaçao, and vodka. They also can't pronounce curaçao. Toscafino never disappoints! They've got a solid offering of both seafood and Mexican inspired dishes and drinks. Our favorites were the calamari (for a hefty appetizer) and the ribeye tacos (for a great main to split). The service was friendly, speedy, and grateful we didn't have to wait at all for a small table at 7pm on a Friday eve. We'll definitely be back. My experience started off great. No wait straight to the bar. Bartender served up a smash whiskey and it was amazing! Then the food came. First bite I noticed the sauce didn't have much flavor. The noodles came with a surprise, crunchy texture made for each bite an adventure. Hardly any meat. The bartender was very attentive until I under a water and stopped drinking. Many restaurants tend to have gradual decline over time but that is not the case here. The restaurant was clean and felt fresh. The ambiance was delightful and the service excellent. I was disappointed with Toscafino's service and food! Before Covid pandemic happened the food was with the price! Now it is just joke! Freaking charcuterie board is $34.00. It had generic priced cheese Gouda, cream cheese! I mean who puts cream cheese on a charcuterie board and strawberry jelly! They basically put toppings from a salad on this board and to top it off they took almost 30 minutes to add procuitto ham and salami! This was suppose to be an appetizer! This place is surprisingly posh and ambient. The exterior appears to be a fairly casual affair but give it a Friday night and what a great place to take a date. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter was friendly, pleasant and very efficient. The focaccia was warm and salty. My husband ate nearly two baskets himself. We ordered the Tuna Tostadas, Meat Ravioli for him, the Cobb Salad for me and the kids spaghetti dinner for mini me. Food was anywhere from fair to pretty tasty but better than the average here. My husband wasn't overly impressed with the ravioli but... Our server was so attentive and not overbearing at all. Refilling drinks before we even realized we'd need them. Fine dining? My ass. I think they are trying to create the ILLUSION of fine dining, but they fail. Miserably. If only the food and service here were half as good as the sounds coming from the piano keyboard in the corner!! This is mediocre, ridiculously over-priced food, poorly served in a decent atmosphere with very nice music playing in the background. I have been here more times than I care to admit because one of my cronies liked to come here for drinks and celebrations. Thankfully she moved. Well, I'm not thankful that she MOVED, but I'm just happy that I have no reason to return. If you want to hear a great pianist and don't mind paying super-inflated prices and can suffer through the bad service, then this works for drinks and an appetizer. (Call me cheap, but $40 for two martinis, a mediocre appetizer and a basket of stale, cold rolls is a bit much). They do have some good martinis (dirty mango, cucumber, nuts & berries) and I like their bruschetta. Avoid the caprese salad - a pithy, pink tomato sliced horizontally and stacked with alternating slices of mozzarella and served in the middle of a huge plate like it's something really fancy and special. (I've had better tomatoes on fast-food hamburgers). The rest of the food isn't too impressive either. My friend seemed to like the tenderloin, but I haven't found anything that was worth writing home about. The salads were unimaginative, the pizza was soggy and the chicken parmesan and pasta were both really bland. (Way better at Johnny Carino's). And sure, its a great date place if you want to show your date that you don't know good food. And, yes, this IS Brownsville. You don't have to suffer sub-zero temperatures, you don't have to commute an hour for work and you certainly don't need to spend a fortune to get a great meal. There are PLENTY of better choices within the general vicinity. read more

I don't like to complain but I told the server and they told me that it was because of the prosciutto (??) and they only said they could cook the chicken for a little longer. Took my girlfriend here on Valentine's Day 2018. They had a limited menu, which upfront I was ok with .(keep in mind this place was about 30 % full, and fully staffed) First, we sat down, waited literally 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, as well as the people sitting next to us. We went through 2 waiters/1 waitress before someone finally committed having our table. We finally order, we both order the shrimp with pasta/creme sauce. Comes with creme tomato soup, and creme brule. They list EACH plate for $ 38.99 . I was OK with that , I knew that upfront. This is what you actually get : 2 cold plates with 6 fried shrimp, with some weird creme sauce plopped on it, and in the middle about 10 cents ( a small scoup )worth of pasta. Tasted cold and the sauce was terrible. The people in the next table thought so too. The creme brule..... wow.... the toasted sugar on top was mushy... not crunchy like it is supposed to be. NOT MADE TO ORDER Our water glasses remained empty. KEEP IN MIND , NOT BUSY !!! I have been here a few times before, and enjoyed it. I do not mind spending more money for good food. Especially on special occasions. The bill was over $100.00. Bad food bad service. I have never felt so taken advantage of at a restaurant, and RIPPED off. COMPLETE RIP OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went for my birthday this past weekend for my first time. DO NOT ORDER THE SPAGHETTI & MEATBALL entree. When they placed it on the table in front of me, it literally looked like a soup. Wish I would have taken a picture of it before I sent it back, but just about all of the pasta was submerged in a mix of marinara sauce & water, mostly water tho... I sent it back asking if it's supposed to be watery like that. I just don't know how you look at a plate like that and actually think people won't complain about it. I'm not one to send things back, but I just had to speak up. I think they just drained the water and gave me my plate back. I gave it a chance and when I tasted it, it was absolutely flavorless. Sent it back a second time, said that I just couldn't eat it, and they at least took it off our bill. Luckily we had ordered appetizers so I ended up filling up on that because the kitchen was already closed, the ceviche was good but calamari was soggy & not crispy at all. They really need to fix that though especially for how much they charge. The plate was about $20 & it was very disappointing. I will say the other guests at my table gave it a try because I thought I was just overreacting, but they all said the exact same thing: Flavorless. Just tasted like pasta water. read more
