I was visiting Brownsville as a local from Harlingen and i'm always in the mood for some Italian so I decided to try a local spot. I was blown away by the quality of the food I received. My partner ordered a Calzone and the entire plate was emptied, he says it was delicious. I ordered Ravioli carbonara and it was absolutely delicious! I can't stand onions or tomatoes but they were perfect in the plate. It was very flavorful. The setting is also gorgeous and sets the mood for a relaxing dinner/lunch. Reyna was a marvel , she was the hostess, cashier and the one and only superhero waitress taking care of everyone, 20-25 people in three different seating areas, the food was served with no delays along with all beverages, she was moving . The food was surprisingly good , the cooks have talent , I had pasta del fuego soup , a balsamic vinegar and oil salad to start, both very tasty , then the only minor disappointment, the shrimp fettuccine alfredo which while ok had a sauce that' was chunky , I gave the cook some pointers ( I groked it ), nice clean place good music and atmosphere, all in all a great meal read more

We were in town for an event, and were looking for a pizzeria that served cauliflower crust pizza; little did we know how happy we were going to be when we found this hidden gem -- La Scala! My wife and I arrived for an early dinner (around 4:30 pm) and were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant was a small-sized restaurant with approx 10-15 tables; the environment was cozy and what you'd expect in an authentic local pizzeria with character. There was ambient music playing, but not so loud that we couldn't have a private conversation. The server gave us these battery-lit menus! I was impressed as I've never seen these before. My wife ordered a small cauliflower crust Mediterranean pizza, and I ordered a medium cauliflower crust pizza with mushrooms, onions, and Italian sausage. We were both very happy with the portions as we both ate half of our pizzas and were already full. These were the best pizzas we've had in a very long time: our pizzas were loaded with toppings and we were able to observe our dieting restrictions--La Scala didn't hold back! The server was attentive but not overbearing, and the pizzas arrived 10-15 minutes right out of the oven. 10 out to 10, bravo La Scala! The good reviews sadly are from people who have never had real Italian food. Frozen Italian sure, but far from freshly cooked. We have tried ordering a few times, and only the pizza is decent, not great, but better than frozen pizza. Tonight was the last draw raw chicken, and they give excuses, yet it's certainly a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm not sure why this place is gone from good to gross, but it has. Each order has had issues, but this was the last chance & frozen foods are not what we call good Italian food, and that's all they have. They brought back our money for the raw chicken, but that's not the point they should apologize 1st and not once do they. I wish Brownsville had real good Italian food that's not precooked and frozen, but they just don't. read more

I love the fact the that they make cauliflower crust pizza. I have been going there even when it was called Pitis. Name changed but the new owners are related to the previous owner. I have noticed a change on the breadsticks. I think it is the texture that is not the same as before. But other that that I love the food there. Calzones are large. Pizza is the best in town. I used to prefer The pizzeria, but they don't have a true thin crust and I don't like their ingredients as much since trying la scala! Their table service at La Scala leaves a lot to be desired at times, but they are always friendly. Thin crust pizza is flaky and crunchy at the same time. Sauce is good, but I'd prefer a bit sweeter. Cheese is always good. I have tried to order Dr. Pepper BBQ wings on several occasions I line for delivery and every single time they call me back and say they aren't available. They should probably take them off of their online menu. I've never been disappointed in the food and the small simple salads have mozzarella cheese in them and I love that a lot!. Overall it's the best Italian food in town that I've discovered to date! I highly recommend it!! read more
