A Tale of Two Meals
It was the best of meals,
it was the worst of meals...
K, k, enough of that. But really, our experience at Tosnu can be divided into two halves: the first half (the good half), and the second half (the not-so-good half). While waiting for our food the waiter brought us a complimentary amuse bouche from the kitchen--toasted focaccia topped with goat cheese, tomato relish, salsa, and pesto. Delicious. Then our Crab Claws in Garlic Butter appetizer arrived. The highlight of the meal. The climax. Super tender, very meaty crab claws poached in butter and served with more butter plus a small side salad.
Then it all went downhill. My entree, Braised Beef Shoulder, was overcooked and quite dry. The sauce helped but there wasn't enough to save the dish. Our other plate, 10 Hr Confit Pork Belly, also disappointed--a surprise cuz usually one of us "wins." On top of that, they were understaffed til the end of our meal. The poor guy, who was hosting, serving, and bussing, was running around like a madman, so I won't fault him for taking awhile to bring us our check. He was very friendly and did well helping us navigate the menu.
Ahh, it all started out so promising! Maybe we ordered the wrong entrees? Maybe it was just an off night? Maybe I'd give them another chance. read more
