We stayed in Salt Hill on our Irish tour, our tour guide mentioned this place in town. We walked from our hotel one night, there was live music playing when we walked in. Walk around to the side of the building to enter*** This place was unique, decorated on every surface. Netting, shells, fishing floats all over the ceiling. Antiques all around, there was a trunk for a table in the area we sat at, then they opened a curtain to another room for overflow. We sat at a large table for our group that ventured over for the night. Great ambiance, I can't speak to the service because I didn't go up to the bar to order. We loved the live music and the experience we had with our friends that night. read more

We obviously had to go to the pub where Ed Sheeran filmed the Galway Girl music video, and we're glad we did. It was a quick bus ride from the Latin Quarter but you can easily walk it as well. There were a lot of seats inside and they had live music with a really great singer. Credit cards and cash accepted. The atmosphere was casual and the decor was fun. The crowd was varied in ages and the overall scene seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals. read more

Ok so I'm not a great fan of tourist attractions generally, when I go somewhere I like to enjoy the local side of things to get a genuine experience. O'Connor's is a genuine mix of both a traditional Irish pub with a great flair to entice the tourists. You walk in the door and are greeted by an absolute visual overload of knick-knacks and memorabilia hanging and covering EVERY surface except the tables and bar. The place is also massive. There was a live trio of traditional performers playing in one corner and the warm glowing coals of the fire opposite the bar. The place was absolutely packed and the craic was mighty. We ordered a couple of pints of Guinness (Which tasted amazing) and while I was at the bar I noticed their selection of local whiskey's. I'm a whiskey drinker and this looked like heaven. I resolved to order one after the pint. We sat for a bit and soaked up the epic atmosphere. After I finished my pint I went for a closer look at the whiskey's (For a wee night cap you know) and ordered a relatively new one called 'Writer's Tears' for any whiskey aficionados out there, I highly recommend this. Was one of the nicest I've tasted in a LONG time. (I'd like to point out here I'm half Scottish and half Irish so I've tasted my fill believe me) Overall this place is amazing, you could call in for a quick pint or spend the whole night here enjoying the buzz. O'Connor's "famous" Pub in Salthill bills itself as the first singing pub in Ireland. The veracity of the "famous" tag and the claim to be Ireland's first singing pub is open to debate but it would probably easily win the title of the most decorated pub in Ireland. On entering O'Connors you will be astounded by the the number of articles hanging from every possible inch of space. Old Gaslights, farm implements, crockery, photos, weighing scales and a near life size statue of John Wayne (in The Quiet man) are scattered throughout the Pub. It is possible to get totally disorientated in here and you can start to wonder what year it is as you are transported to years gone by. Definitely a place to stop by for a drink (or two or three) if/when you are in Galway. read more

Well after a couple of pints of Guinness in various other pubs around the Galway bay area, I was taken to O'Connors famous pub in Salthill. This pub has mastered the mix of traditional and tourist. It's a feast for the eyes and for the Whiskey and Guinness drinkers, the palate. Great Guinness is served by the barrel load everyday here, so your pint is as fresh as a daisy. There's cool, funny, traditional stuff hanging from all the ceilings and walls that just keep everyone's eyes dancing from here to there looking at it all. They have regular live music acts on in here, the 3 piece I saw where excellent! I've been told the acts here are of a consistently high level as well. Keep it up guys, I will definately be visiting again before I return back home! read more

I've been in Ireland now for eleven days and this was the most fun I've had so far. Seriously, you deserve to spend an evening here, and if the luck of the Irish is with you, Iggy will be the evening's entertainment. We had a great time listening to his music. He sang Van Morrison, Red Stewart, Christie Moore, Darius Rucker, Irish folk tunes and everything in between. The barkeeps were helpful in suggesting new whiskey to try and served up the drinks with a smile. The decor is just amazing - you have to see it to believe it! They don't open til 730 and don't serve food so grab a bite before you come (I recommend the Galleon) and if you get there early enough you might even get a seat by the fire. read more

Fresh and tasty guinness!! As soon as I hear about this from other reviews, we headed over there. No food however but the music was great. We went there for pre-dinner drinks and left. After dinner, then we headed back and listened to the music. Great spot! read more

I'm a Dub and hadn't been to Galway in years, unfortunately. I went on a trip to see the Galway v Dublin Game with a group of lads. The match was brutal and we were all mad for pints. I'm delighted to say that O'Connors didn't let us down. We are all used to drinking at Dublin and it was a pleasant change to drink good pints at Galway prices for a change. Good guinness. read more

I love this pub, and for a touristy but yet charming and traditional-style pub it is as good as it gets. The first time I came here I fell in love with all the stuff hanging from the ceilings, the walls and even on tables and all around you. There is so much going on, I can not even describe it - you have to see for yourself. The fire place gives it a cosy charm during winter time and the underwear hanging across it - a well known old gimmick - but yet funny. The bar staff is super friendly and you never have to wait long for your pint. They also have live music, which is great and makes the place even more special. If you are in the mood for a chilled evening, this is the pub for you. However, come early, the place is big, but popular and seating can be hard to come by later in the evening. read more

This pub is pure class, somehow managing to look like a pub out of a fake Irish village and yet still maintain its weird old authenticity. There are dusty trinkets and old furniture all over the dark interior and it's so charming. I went here twice during my visit to Salt Hill, just outside of Galway city. Wow, you need a drink right away just to tone down the sensory overload. There is so much randon junk, nik-naks, signs, pictures, tools of all sorts in every possable corner, shelf and wall. They can't even use their stage and the larger half of their "L" shaped bar. It is as if "Sanford and Sons" (old American TV show) opened a bar. Having said this, one may think I didn't like the place and they would be wrong. IF you can find a place to sit you will be comfortable right away here. The band is close, just next to the old wooden piano. An inviting fire crackles in the laundry hung fireplace. The bartenders are quick considering how many tourist and locals they have to serve. It is handy to know that the entrance is around the side of the yellow building that says Salt Hill House on the front. read more

If you are planning to go to Galway, this pub is a must see attraction! The whole layout of the venue is amazing, big and spacious with so many quirky Knick knacks that the eye can see, the drinks are fairly priced the staff are lovely and the live music is worth checking out! read more

My boyfriend and I ended up here after walking from our hotel near the center of Galway through Salthill. The January weather was windy and cold but it was a beautiful night, and we wandering up the street looking for something cozy with live music. O'Connor's was the perfect spot. The night we went was full of people our age, in their early 20s, and the bar itself was lit up with strands and strands of Christmas lights. The man singing and playing the piano in the center of the bar was amazing, and locals and visitors alike were offered a spot at the piano to sing their own songs. The best part of the night was when a random visitor began singing the Elvis classic "Can't Help Falling". The entire bar sang the words and swayed to the music with their beers in the air. This is a really cozy Irish pub, there's a lovely fireplace lit when you walk in and very cool stuff hanging all around like a great collector gave it a lot of thought. The review has this come up under restaurant, however it is not. They do not serve any food here, but if you are looking for a pub this is it.
