I bought a three-pack of massages from Deal Chicken. I used the first coupon and UGH, what a horrible experience. I upgraded from a one-hour massage to a 90-minute and seriously wished I hadn't after about 15 minutes on the table. I'm not going to use my second two coupons. They were that bad. It was two massage therapists who split the 90 minutes, which was kind of weird. The second gal had a horrible cold and was sniffing and snorting the whole time. This is a year old business, and from what i can tell, run by a few young women. don't expect a spa, but the entry way and waiting room will certainly be a turn-off. not unclean, just...not a spa. the massages themselves are decent, but not life-changing. bottom line - if you have a seriously good groupon and aren't expecting a 5-star environment/experience, you'll be fine. read more

I had a groupon for this place and it was not worth my time or money. First of all, I kept going up to the door because I thought it was locked only to find out that it was open, and the place just looked deserted. Once I got in, the waiting area was not what I expected; didn't feel like a spa. The girl that took my information was very unprofessional, could barely understand what she was saying. Then I was really taken back when she handed me a tip envelope!!!! The massage was ok, but I couldn't relax because it was not a relaxing atmosphere! I purchased a groupon for a couples massage, which was suppose to include a gift basket. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. It's a rented out office building with dirty tables, clutter everywhere and inexperience massage therapist (if you want to call them that, I really do not think they went to massage school). It was awful. PLUS the "gift basket" that was priced at $56, was a bag full of crap bought from the dollar store. Oh, how do I know they were purchased from the dollar store? I wish it were an option to give zero stars. I had a terrible experience and the employees were extremely rude. I called to confirm my appointment the day before and was assured I was on the books. I arrived Saturday morning 15 minutes early and no one was there. I waited around, and when no one showed up by my appointment time, I called their phone number and their after hours number. The after hours receptionist told me the massage therapist was on her way. I asked if I should wait or reschedule, and she said if I had time to wait, they'd be there soon and there was no need to reschedule. 30 minutes later another employee showed up and told me that they wouldn't be able to do my massage that day. And when she tried to reschedule my appointment, she would only offer me days and times I already said I wasn't available. She ended up unable to schedule me for a time I was available at all. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Shockingly bad experience! I had an appointment for a deep tissue massage at Total Bodyworks of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan on Friday, September 7, 2012. To best summary the experience: * No reception area * Greeted 10 minutes after arriving. * Overhear a client prior to my appointment complain to the owner, Nicole Esser, about both the lack of professionalism of one of her therapists and also the poor quality of the entire service and massage experience. * ***Male therapist showing me to the room, stating, "Right here, Babe." * Room too small for a massage. Massage table against the wall on 2 sides, impossible for a therapist to reach all areas in order to give a massage. * The sheets and cover on the face rest did not look very clean. * ***Therapist stating that he could read the name of my bra imprinted on my back, putting his face near my back, saying "Victoria Secret" and then touching it. * Lights not turned down in the room. * Relaxing music was loud and skipped every 10-15 seconds. * Therapist listened to his own personal music player (with ear buds) so loud that it more audible then the "relaxing" music from the CD player. * Pressure was very little and when I said that I wanted deep pressure, pressure barely changed. It was barely more than a light rub. After feeling very uncomfortable following the being called "Babe," the bra comment and the poor setting and lack of proper training of the therapist, I said that I didn't feel well, asked to put my clothes on, and left. I was in the massage room for no more than 10 minutes. On my way out, the owner did give me her card and tell me to call her on Tuesday. When the client prior to me complained, the owner also gave her card to her and said to come back for a free massage by her. I received a groupon for couples massage as a gift. First off, it took over a month to get an appointment, so I thought they really must be busy...not. The place is located inside a shabby office building. You have do go down a narrow hallway to find the office. I open the door and sits two women, one on the couch and one behind a desk. One asks are you so and so, yes I reply, I hand her my groupon and she states I didn't know this was a couples massage?! We proceeded to fill out the health history while they stared at us. I had to pay $25 because my groupon was expired. so the woman asked me if I had the $25. I asked if she takes debit (it said on their website that they did), she said no we are just taking cash. I gave her two $20 bills and she replied that she has to go to the gas station to get change! WTH! we were taken into a room with two tables and told to undress to our underwear and lay on table belly down. Ok for the good part. My therapist, which I don't really think is a massage therapist, had no idea what she was doing. she would stop and watch what the other woman was doing to my partner then proceed to try it on me. There was a time I thought she was going to push me off the table. She was breathing heavy and snorting. I thought it was some kind of joke that was being played on us. I do not recommend this place! The Waiting area is dirty, the front desk/ receptionist is not friendly, and my 60min massage was a 30min., at best! I drove there in the only snow that we've had this winter and arrived on time for my appt. It took me about 5 minutes to fill out the paperwork & by the time I was in the room and ready to go, it was about 10mins (12:10pm) into my appt. By the time I was dressed and walking out of the room, it was (12:45pm). I went to the bathroom after & upon returning to tip the therapist, she was not getting ready for another appt but instead hanging out with the receptionist on the couch, watching tv. The massage was ok, considering that she did the whole massage while I was on my stomach & never had me turn onto my back. I'm more upset with the fact that is was supposed to be a 60min massage and I got 30mins at best. The other thing that was troublesome was that the called and left me a confirmation voicemail about 20mins before my actual appt time. I had called a few times earlier that day to confirm but they we not answering their phone. By the time they had called, I was already on my way. But they had stated to me that I would loose my appointment if I canceled or was more than 10mins late; who does that when confirming 20 minutes before the appointment!? I do Not recommend going to this establishment unless you want to deal with people that are unprofessional, dirty (they don't use headrest covers; when I asked for one, her reply was "oh all we have is paper towel to cover it, but I clean it all of the time), and half of the service that you paid for! I wish I had read the other reviews before purchasing a Social Living coupon for a $35 massage at Total Body Works. I purchased the massage and received my voucher in the mail and then made an appointment. When I showed up there was no one there and no one answering the telephone. Obviously I was disappointed that I wouldn't be getting a massage not to mention my lost time. I immediately called Social Living and let them know that one of the businesses they have an association with (Total Body works) is very unprofessional. At the very least they could have called to cancel. I called Social Living and asked for my money back and won't ever plan on going to this place. I went here on a Groupon special. The therapist were very cordial and told me that they were working on redoing the waiting room very soon. It was a complete nightmare to deal with Total Bodyworks. I ended up walking out instead of having a massage with my Living Social voucher. The receptionist gave me incorrect information regarding the pricing for my services when I made my appointment. Days before my appointment I left two messages to change my scheduled services and I never received a return call. The manager was extremely rude and condescending. She told me I should've demanded to speak with a manager instead of accepting the information from the receptionist. She asked if "I thought that companies stayed in business by giving things away for free". I did not request a refund on my voucher but she decided to instruct me to "take it up with Living Social". At this point I politely ended the conversation because the woman made it clear she wasn't interested in having me as a customer. ***I received notification that the business name has changed to Tree of Life. I have had two massages at Total Bodyworks. The first was due to a Groupon I had purchased, the second was a $30 Friday special they were offering. Let me start by stating that both massages were fine. The first one was early on a Saturday morning, and I did not have any concerns or complaints other than the multiple phone calls it took just to schedule the appointment. The second one was late on a Friday afternoon. The atmosphere in the building was completely different. Even with the "soothing' music which was cranked up a bit louder that it should have been, I realized it was to drown out the commotion in the office building hallway as well as in the waiting room. It also bothered me that the tips go into a fishbowl and not directly to the masseuse. The staff made no attempt after the second massage at retaining me as a customer. Not to worry, I won't be back. The atmosphere in this building made my radar go on. read more
