I stopped into this store on 10/04/24 to ship a handgun to IN. It started out ok and quickly went very bad! The man who handles all the shipping told me that it would cost over $100.00 to ship the gun. No Joke - over $100.00. I've shipped guns before and NEVER paid that much!! That said, do yourself a favor and go to Sportsmans Warehouse on Saginaw Highway off Broadbent. Why? Because they charged me $21.20 to ship my gun. This place has a pretty decent selection of firearms, but the staff has to be the unhappiest and crabbiest collection of people I've ever seen working in a gun store. I don't know what's worse - the employees staring at you like you're an annoyance when you first walk in or when they talk to you like you're an idiot when you tell them what you are looking for. I didn't come in for somebody to tell me that I want something else, I came in for someone to show me where to find what it is that I want. Firearm transfer a few years back did not go smoothly. They held the firearm because they were unsure of protocol (contacted msp), called me several days later and handed it over. For clarification the delay had nothing to do with my background check. They were unsure of the classification of a firearm and whether they could release it to me so they called the POLICE. read more

Prices are super expensive. You are much better off buying online (most of time free shipping too and no sales tax) and then even with a transfer fee ($25 at dicker n deal) you are still coming in way cheaper than them - sometimes 100s of dollars cheaper. The prices were just laughable. Next fail is gunsmithing. When I first got into sporting rifles and lacked the tools I had to use them. Took them like more than 60 days to install a three point sling adapter on my AR. I was dumb back then and didn't know how to take off a castle nut. My fault. But they literally could have knocked it out in 5minutes. The range. I get safety first but Jesus Christ it seems like they literally baby micromanage the heck out of you. The ranger was a power tripping, mean, know it all type. Acting like it's his own personal kingdom in there. All hail mr ranger. Nope. He even was blatantly hitting on my girlfriend and she was like STOP talking to me. Made both of us feel super uncomfortable. This was a year or two ago. Maybe they got a new guy but I remember that specific ranger for at least the last decade. He was there forever. Ex-cop powertripping nonstop in there. Ammo is overpriced as well. Big time. They can never match online prices. All in all they got a monopoly on being the only indoor range in the area. But their prices and crap attitude I'll never go there again and neither should you. I love the firearm purchase I made. However, the staff I worked with was unknowledgeable of multiple questions I had. I felt mislead when purchasing what I had thought was a new firearm but was remanufactured so that was my fault. I've had multiple issues with bad communication. Most recently I've had issues with a transfer which I had been in communication with multiple people over several days to make sure things went smoothly and all the rules were followed like making arrangements to avoid the extra fees they charge to an already above average transfer fee and finally said forget it, I will take my transfer elsewhere. I don't recommend going here for much of anything at this point. read more

BUYER BEWARE! - There is a reason that this gun shop has 3 stars and others have 4 or 5. Heed the advice in the other reviews and take your business elsewhere. Very unprofessional and poor customer service. I bought a firearm from them that didn't shoot when I took it to the range for the first time. When I contacted them about this they were rude on the phone and said it was not their problem and to contact the manufacturer (This is important later). I contacted the manufacturer and they offered to fix the gun. When I got it back, it had two broken parts and still didn't shoot. Since I can't rely on the gun I wanted a refund. I called the gun shop again and they told me they could fix it (voiding the warranty without a guarantee of being fixed) or I can get lost. I choose to contact the manufacturer and after I told them about my experience they were happy to refund the MSRP, and told me I would need to get the additional money back from the gunshop which was all profit ( a little over $100). I went in person to meet with a manager and who I assume was the owner and they refused to give any refund stating that I should have tried to work with them first. The ironic part is that I DID TRY TO WORK WITH THEM AND WAS blown off. They tried to strong arm me unto giving up. I unfortunately had to resolve this issue with my credit card company. Extremely poor customer service and unprofessionalism. Read other reviews and shop elsewhere. I expect them to respond with an excuse or a lie. I tried to work with them over 3 times and it got nowhere. They won't stand behind their products and will deny any responsibility. read more

For anyone who hasn't visited in a while, customer service has improved significantly over the past few years. Everyone has been extremely helpful by answering questions thoroughly and providing expert guidance. My Wife and I have worked with Rick on a few occasions and he helped select a firearm that wasn't necessarily the most expensive gun in the store, but one that met my wife's needs. I have also received great deals on ammo when purchased in bulk and they provided a few extras on my Wife's first range visit. She had her first lesson with Ed, and he set her at ease with his patience, expert guidance and humor - she wants to visit again soon. Keep up the great work and we'll be back again soon read more

The store itself is great, but the employees are not friendly and treat customers like garbage and when asked to see a firearm the employee I was with was disengaged and treated me like a total idiot for asking questions like they really didn't want to deal with me and they kept rolling their eyes. I go there all the time to practice at the indoor range. Very comfortable setting which makes it a lot easier to relax and just shoot! I've been looking for extra mags for my sig sauer p226 40 cal and lucked out! They had 3, I bought 2. Finally have backup mags!!!! You have to get out there and at least go shooting. I had need to travel to Total firearms in Mason a few weeks back to pick something up. When I walked into the store there were 4-5 employees talking and laughing with the manager. I had to walk between all of them to get to the counters. Not one of them greeted me or asked if I needed any assistance. I walked around the store for 10-15 minutes. During this time the employees did not change positions, still at the front talking while I was in the back of the sales floor. There were no other customers . I had heard that a lot of people do not like to shop there any longer. Now I see why. I did not see any employees I had seen working there in the past. There was a lot of knowledge in that older crew. It used to be a great store to shop and talk to the employees. I had also heard that the previous crew had been replaced by a younger group. It is a shame to see this. With the huge increase in gun related sales around the country you would think the store would be busy. I won't be back anytime soon. read more

My first time at TFA was a great experience. I went to shoot, not to buy, but they have a very complete selection of bows, firearms, ammunition, and every accessory. We checked in, gave up our driver's licenses, and filled out a short form. We were taken to the range door, and greeted by the Range Officer (RO). He explained the safety rules, and also explained that everyone gets the same safety instructions, even experienced LEOs. The emphasis on safety was appreciated by both of us. The range itself is fairly small, with six narrow lanes. That said, the lanes are modern and well-equipped, with a back bench for your case, jacket, targets, etc, and the shooting bench with just enough room for 2-3 hand guns and some magazines and ammo. The target holders have good strong clips, and the action of the motorized holders is smooth and quick. I should note that the maximum range distance is only 15 yards, which was fine for us, but for those who practice at longer distances, this may be an issue. The RO observed our shooting (and everyone else's) so again we felt good that safety was being monitored and maintained. He also made us feel welcome and thanked us for our visit. I feel the prices are fair: $18 for an hour. When I next visit family in the Lansing area, TFA will be on my agenda. read more

Got to try out gun shooting here. They had you train beginners to make sure we knew what to do in case of emergency and in general. Very sweet spot to learn a new hobby! Scary, but a cool experience. They won't let you rent out bigger guns unless you've done it before. I went with my baby brother, and he enjoyed his time there! Have bought 3 firearms from Total in the last year. Made another trip down to purchase extra mags for my .22 Ruger target pistol. Was given the wrong mags. Had to make another trip down the next day to exchange. This happened earlier this summer. No big deal. But then this happened this morning...and btw, if you enjoy a nice and relaxed atmosphere to shoot in, don't rent a lane at their range. While getting prepared to shoot, went to the back bench to take our Walther 9mm out of its case. Slide was locked back and the chamber was empty. Handed it butt end to my girlfriend to take to the firing line. The range officer intercepted her and took the weapon and proceeded to dress me down as to the range violation I just committed. I had no idea what he was talking about. I just stood stunned. He barked at me "sir can you hear me? If you do that again I will walk you out of my range". Again I was . I told him "look I get the intensity, you guys let a customer walk out of here last year and murder someone with one of your rentals" He then started dropping F-bombs on me and told me to get the f*%# out of his range. So....their Range Officer has a temper. Probably not a good trait to have in that job. Not sure the name of the RO, but he's the one always dressed as if he's invading Baghdad in the morning. Again, took the pistol out of the case, slide was locked back, handed it butt first to another shooter to walk it over to the firing lane, and then all hell broke loose. The staff is always somewhere between rude and brandishing their holstered pistol because it was "funny." Prices are higher than but close to what you would expect from a local gun shop. Selection is very large but attempting to discuss any products with staff will end in them belittling you. Not a very clean and organized shop. The parking lot is oddly set up and poorly marked. The on-site firing range is decent but small and the ability to rent a fair number of handguns is nice. One range officer is professional and polite (relative to other staff) and another one is as rude as the rest of the staff. The firing range and selection simply do not offset how terrible the staff is and the high prices. read more
