Our son was around 10 years old when we started the Asperger's program in group sessions with Jim West, and it was part of his journey to really help him get confident talking to other people and Kids, his age and learning how to relate to the real world. Our son is now 28 and a very productive individual who finished college , works at a lumberyard, pays his bills living at home with us, and is buying a car, extremely faithful with his bills and putting money to his own 401(k) and sticking to a routine and is very confident talking to people And we do feel that part of that was his journey starting young in Jim West's class group sessions to build his confidence. This counseling service does not have it together when it comes to submitting paperwork. I'm waiting in my car in a private area so I can have my one hour appointment only to hear that the appointment is canceled and they didn't get the paperwork. Their new platform did not take my filled out paperwork and give it to the provider. They're very unprofessional. I'd say look elsewhere. read more

Still caring 9 years later! My son went to Total Life Counseling 9 years ago. When I called to ask for records, they said they only keep records for 7 years. Brian West the office manager went the extra mile to search records and find something that he could provide documenting prior treatment. TLC is a great avenue to use with great flexibility. They have offices throughout Orlando and for me the Avalon Park location was great. Therpaist Brandon Feinberg was the person i was matched with and it was a very great experience. Strong connections and was very helpful. I would highly recommend him. From a counselor perspective the environment was very inviting, he was extremely flexible and I got the sense he really cared to help me. I never got the sense he was rushing to his next appt. In the age where everyone is offering virtual sessions it was great to find Brandon The only downside to TLC would be they don't take Insurance. However if your coverage allows for out of network providers or you have an HSA account you can leverage that for payment. read more

At 23 months, I took my son to the Center for Child Development on Michigan, they did a full eval and only came up with "maybe he has sensory issues". Fast forward, many evals later at age six, finally a diagnosis of Non Verbal Learning Disability but one point below the Autism Spectrum cutoff. From that point, I just accepted it's autism (Aspergers' back then) and we continued to work on speech, social skills, hippotherapy, biofeedback, vision therapy, OT/PT. There was a component that just was missing in all these therapies and that was Jim West. Jim has a way of reaching these kids, interacting in a way that makes them see things from another perspective than their own. They are playing games with other kids so to them it's fun, meanwhile, it's real life encounters and not role playing but real events in real time. Accepting peers perspective and changing personal behavior can only be learned by real life examples, puppets, social stories have limited success. I am only sorry that we were never in a financial position to send my son to camp with Total Life Counseling. That would have been a priceless experience for him. I saw a positive change in my son behavior and appreciated all of Jim's insight and suggestions on parenting skills. While I always thought of myself as an exceptional parent, we can always learn more tricks to make this journey easier. Jim is compassionate, honest and truly is called to this profession. In short, your child is an investment, that the dividends may not pay off, right away. My son now has a 3.89 cum over all average in a public high school where he is mainstreamed along with 2,000 other students. He is in National Honor Society and recently won a national essay contest. He just stayed overnight at a state university that offered a two day college prep course about a half an hour away from us. He loved it and thrived. So, if you are reading this, I am telling you, quite simply, Jim West and Total Life Counseling are worth every penny. You will be surprised how much they help not only your child but you as well. As soon as we become parents there seems to be an internal switch that flips within us igniting a desire to be better... better parents, better role models, better people in general. However, unlike our profession, most of us are never properly educated or obtain that "expert" status in these precious areas. That is where Jim West, and his team at TLC, comes in. Over the years I've watched videos, read books, and talked to several "professionals" on the topics of parenting and relationships. To date I have never met a more warm hearted or knowledgeable person than Jim. He is someone that you cannot help but genuinely like and, more importantly, his creative techniques and methods yield amazing results. Several years ago, after relocating a few times, our young daughter found it challenging to make the adjustment. Heck, I guess we all found it a bit challenging. Rather than tiptoe around the issues, we reached out to Jim and he offered some of the best guidance ever. His wisdom during that period helped steer everything back on track and running smoothly. Not only did Jim offer great techniques but he was able to give us a better understanding of the phycological and physiological impacts of virtually every change in our life; from dietary to environmental and beyond. From time to time we were also able to casually talk with other parents and heard nothing but sheer gratitude for Jim's role in their family. And, as you might expect, our daughter and the other kids felt just as warmly about him as we did. There is really not much more to say. Life is filled with countless forks in the road and obstacles to navigate. Having someone like Jim West in your corner astronomically improves your ability to successfully navigate that road. People place so much value on making the right investments, the best improvements to our homes, and the right career choices. We started seeing Jim West last year, at the suggestion of our wonderful holistic doctor (who also works in conjunction with Jim). His expertise in child ADHD/Autism has helped immensely with our 6 year old twins behavior issues. He doesn't focus on changing the children, but more equipping parents with an arsenal of tools to help handle any given situation in a calm, effective manor. He is incredibly thorough with his advice and even goes the extra mile to email the suggestions talked about it in the session, which allows for a refresher in remembering what to say and do when situations arise. I have learned so much from him and it has made a HUGE difference in how we handle things at home, and, in turn, how our children respond. It's truly made us more responsive and understanding and less reactive, which ultimately has cultivated a calmer household. The staff here is very kind and they have helped me so much and I'm glad that I was able to find Total Life Counseling! When thinking as a 19 year old making a transition into adult hood, Jim West and TLC were able to help me see a different path to take and has lead me into a career and a future I wouldn't have foreseen without there help. Jim was very helpful with my teenage daughter in getting her life back. She was on numerous medications to help her with her mood swings. Jim took the time to diagnose if my daughter's moods were caused by trauma or by chemical balance. In my case, it was both and Jim worked with us to find the right balance for her. Our son has been seen by Jim and also been to many of the summer programs offered over the past few years. Our son really connected with The staff. Working with us for a short time, Jim was the first person in more than 10 years that was able to correctly identify our sons issues and asked us to confirm through testing (which we did through an outside source). We love that Jim has a healthy living approach and looks at all aspects of a child's growth and development. We were able to see what foods triggered changes in behavior and how proteins and better eating habits throughout the day helped him sleep better and lower his anxiety. With the encouragement of Jim my son is no longer on medication and is a thriving young man about to be a Senior in High School. We found Jim and TLC when looking for help with social skills and other support to help my preteen son who has Expressive/Receptive disorder which has caused social anxiety. Jim met with all of us and immediately my son felt comfortable. My son joined the social skills group which helped him not be so socially awkward and he even made several new friends. Jim was our life savior when a very scary event happened to my son and he immediately met with us after hours and provided all the help that was needed. He turned a nightmare situation into an eye-opening learning for everyone involved. Middle school is hard and kids can be so cruel to those who are different from the norm. Parents can't begin to know what their kids go through at school, as I have found out. My son is also seeing Jamie who has many different techniques to help kids learn how they can be the person they know they are or want to be.
