I am comparing this store to their Burnsville sister location. I found out something interesting. They ask everyone to Show Id for sampling even 60 some older looking people. They look on back for 2 or more dwis and do not serve on your Id. Thats why they could lose license If they give them samples. Oh, not me fortunately. This store is not as wide as Burnsville's. It may be smaller and layout is a little different. They actually have the mini bar liquor size bottles in an aisle Where they belong. Smart. There were no Long lines at this store. It is next door to Trader Joes which is nice to park once for going to 2 locations. read more

December 23rd. Driving to North Dakota from Minneapolis airport. This shop was on the way. Loads of people, parking lot was bonkers, and the shelves had been hit pretty hard. With that said, the employees were incredibly civil and helpful. The selection was still great, even having been picked over heavily. This place is the bee's knees. Once you start going to total wine, you'll question how other places ever managed to suffice. The selection is immaculate (to call it anything else would be an understatement) and well organized. After a few visits, I almost feel prepared to show others around the store. Beyond the selection, my inner cheapskate loves the rock bottom prices (seriously where was this place when I was in college?). Even though wine under $3 sounds like a terrible hangover in the making, my 21 year old self would be scooping those bottles up like yoga pants at a Victoria's Secret Black Friday special. Since Total Wines entrance into the Twin Cities, I've heard mixed thing about service, but after multiple visits, I've received the same quality service I received at my old wine store and have been steered in the right direction for my wine needs (desires may be a better word). read more

Total Wine is a great addition to the twin cities. The prices seem better here that any other liquor store around. The selection is the best around also. I was recommended to try a Brazilian Rum called OLO and I love the spiced and silver. It is good, smooth rum with a cork but it is much better that Cruzan Single barrel and a lot cheaper too. I know the rest of my family also likes to shop here because of the low prices on the stuff that you would buy anyway. I love to make my Applebee's "Perfect margarita" -- I stock up here! Either this Edina/Bloomington store or the Burnsville store. This place is so busy every single time I come - no matter the time or day of the week. Great place to go to stock up for a big party. They sell every type of alcohol you can imagine, and at a great price. They also have really friendly staff who are equipped with headsets who can find really specific bottles of liquor for you, or answer any alcohol related questions you have, even if they have to radio for someone else who is more of an expert. It is a pretty big store, but thanks to the people who work there, you don't have to worry about wandering around lost all day trying to find something. read more

I went here yesterday and had a horrible experience with a cashier named Wanda (older woman) who made my transaction as miserable as possible. Despite the fact that I was the one purchasing, she refused to sell to me until both me and my fiancé showed our IDs. Unfortunately, his ID was in the car and the person with the keys was in Trader Joe's. If this is store policy, then it is still annoying, but the way the cashier dealt with the situation was extremely rude and confrontational. Instead of explaining why she needed both our IDs, she treated us as if we were basically stupid not having one (again, I had ID and was the one purchasing). She didn't even back down when my father and sister met us up at the register (clearly we weren't buying all this alcohol for some underage rager, come on). And then when my mother, who we had to retrieve from Trader Joe's to get the ID from the car, asked her why she needed to ID him she was extremely snarky and basically escalated the situation. For the record, there is no state law that prohibits the sale of alcohol if you are in the presence of underage people (dude people bring their kids here...) and we're not even anywhere near a college campus. I understand the store wants to avoid selling to minors but they could have handled it more gracefully. read more

I don't see where I can reply to Total wine and spirits. I did not clarify this. I am 57 years old. I was with my husband and our 19 year old daughter. My husband was buying beer. I am the only person she carded. I wasn't buying. She didn't ask for my husbands and she didn't ask for our 19 year old daughters is either. Only mine. She refused to sell to us because I didn't have my purse. I appreciate that someone thinks I looked under 30 but I call BS. It was just poor customer service. read more

Lots of lesser known, high quality spirits in the budget range, as well as every mixer I could ever need for my home bartending hobby. If someone were to ask me my favorite place to shop in general, it would be Total Wine. This place is a booze emporium and I get lost in it. I must admit, I'm not a huge wine drinker. The real draw of this place is the liquor/beer prices. The selection of brands and flavors is immense! You can build your own 6 pack. They have hundreds of flavors of mini shots. I've discovered brands of liquor I never would have known existed before. Try Veil Vodka: it's a Minnesota brand and the espresso and peach flavors are delicious! The staff is also very knowledgeable. The prices are what really draws me here. $21 for a liter of Jack? $13 for a cube of Hamm's? What's not to like! If you're looking to save a buck, head here. I know it won't last forever. Once they put every other liquor store out of business, the prices are bound to go up and my bliss is going to fade. But for now, Total Wine can do no wrong in my eyes. read more

I HATE this place. Sure, they have a huge selection. Sure, their prices are (sometimes) good. But their lines are insanely long, parking is impossible, and their employees have steered me wrong on wine and liquor so many times that it's become the norm. I stopped in recently for a simple task: to pick up a bottle of Bourbon. I was debating Bulleit or a bottle of Woodford Reserve when a "helpful" employee convinced me to try a bottle of some CRAP I had never heard of (Evan Williams, maybe?) and that I--literally--ended up pouring down the drain. He swore to me up and down that it was "amazing" and that I was going to love it. The only thing amazing about it was that they probably had a ridiculously high margin on the bottle, which is why he was pushing it in the first place. And this seems to be a trend. Ask them for a recommendation and more often than not they'll steer you to something disappointing that they probably got for dirt cheap. I asked for a "grassy, grapefruity Marlborough" and the salesman pointed me to a bottle of Kim Crawford. I heard they trained these people. And no, lady, Mark West is NOT Pinot Noir, no matter what it says on the label, and yes, there IS a difference between California and Oregon. Their prices aren't THAT great anyway, and their Saké selection SUCKS. If you're looking to save a few bucks on a bottle of single malt and you don't mind standing in line for 15 minutes, this might be the place. On the plus side, the Tres Picos someone recommended was very nice, and the woman who recommended the bottle of Furmint we bought REALLY knows her Hungarians. But they're the exception here, not the rule. This is a store for people who buy their vodka by the gallon and who think Franzia is wine. Awful, just awful. read more

I came for the cigars. And was very impressed. A descent selection With a descent price point. This could be an alcoholics dream or nightmare. Atleast for his family. Holly smokes they got everything here. They had some guy doing samples of beer 10 beers and sounded like he was talking about wine. " can you taste the notes of pine in this one?" But hey whatever floats your boat. I was impressed to see they had a case of 12 oz pabts cans packaged like it was a normal 12 oz. Case. Very impressed. read more

For starters, I'm not much of a wine connoisseur-but the last few months I've branched out more than I have in the past, since I started drinking wine. This place is the giant warehouse of all wine stores, with everything alcoholic you could ever imagine you never knew you needed! All the wines are separated by which kind they are, and there are employee recommendations placed along with which bottles have been enjoyed by the staff. That's another thing-the staff here, who's sole purpose is to help you select a bottle (or two, or 3) that you'd enjoy, are all very friendly and very good at what they do! You can can even give them your price limit per bottle, and they help you find what best fits inside the parameters of what you described to them. What a win! They do also offer specialized wine and beer classes on certain days of the month, for a fee ($20 I believe) which I have yet to sign up for, but I could definitely see myself doing in the future based on how much just the sales associates know about the selection that's carried! Be sure you bring your ID with, as they card every single person in the store regardless of whether or not you're the one making a purchase! read more

My cashier had zero personality, didn't smile once, and felt like he just wanted the shift to be over. This location is a challenge to get in and out of because it's busy and next to a Trader Joe's and there are no cart corrals that I could see so they are just pushed onto the grass. read more

As a fresh 21 year old, I have not had many great experiences at total wine. Their policy is to have a manager check the id if the person is under 22, which makes sense, however most employees of total wine do not even say hi to me before asking to check my id. They are not usually friendly or helpful to me because they act like I'm too young to be there without giving me the benefit of the doubt. However, I was browsing through the store with some friends looking for champagne and I asked an employee where I could find it. He was extremely kind and friendly with us and showed us his favorite kinds for mimosas. He asked us what the occasion was and was extremely helpful. Pascal is the best total wine employee and he deserves a raise! read more

Very unhelpful. Three guys standing in middle aisle using swearing and saying "fuck" this. Asked for help and the guy said "I don't know." Immediately turned back to swearing. I don't mind this, usually, but considering my husband was purchasing and I walked up with our 3 year old and 5 year old and didn't have an ID or a purse for that, they wouldn't sell to him and had to return his entire purchase. The store obviously has a large selection of merchandise at good prices. The problem is the employees are so rude that going there is an unpleasant experience. I went there on July 20, 2017 to buy a bottle of Ruffino Orvieto in Aisle 1. I looked on the lowest shelf where it normally is and didn't see it, so I looked around for someone to ask if there may be some in stock, but not on the shelf. An employee came over to me and I asked him if they had any Ruffino Orvieto. He went over to the area where the Italian white wines are and said, " It's right here," pointing to the lowest shelf. I said "I don't see it" and he responded in an exasperated tone, "it's right here! These are all Orvietos!" My response: "yes, but I'm looking for Ruffino." Then he said, raising his voice, "you just said Orvieto, you didn"t say Ruffino!" He said it so loudly and looked so angry that I was starting to get a little embarassed. I thought, "what is this guy so mad about?" I was trying to calm him down and get him to stop yelling, so I said, "sorry, I said Ruffino, but I have kind of a soft voice." His response was, "yeah, well I didn't hear you!" Ok, so after all that, he bent down and reached to the back of the lowest shelf and found a bottle of Ruffino Orvieto that wasn't visible while standing looking at the shelf. Maybe that's what made him so mad - I didn't get down on my hands and knees to make a thorough search before asking. Unfortunately, this isn't the only rude employee in this store. Sometimes they will approach a customer and make a wine recommendation without being asked to. If you decline to buy what they've recommended, they seem to take it as a personal insult, turn their backs and walk away. This has happened to couple of my neighbors. The Bloomington store seems to be acquiring a bad reputation; I don't know about the other locations. I've come to the conclusion that putting up with the bizarre behavior of the store employees isn't worth saving a couple of dollars. read more

My favorite liquor store in Minnesota. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because I wish they had more locations in the north metro. The only one I can think of is in Maple Grove, but they have one within a 3-4 mile radius it seems like in the south metro. I am 27, went in to the store with my younger 15 year old sister, as I have multiple times in the past (at least 3 times in the past two months). Have never had issues. Went to checkout, cashier didn't say hello / no greeting, growled that I needed to take my purchases out of the basket before she could check me out, demanded to see both of our IDs, and then said I was not allowed to buy alcohol with a minor who was not related to me (apparently you need proof of sisterhood?) and when I politely gathered myself to leave and casually stated I had been to this store several times recently, she laughed in my face and said "I will not apologize for other cashier's not enforcing our policy. get out." I understand we are all in quarantine and moody, but really? taking it out on compliant and kind customers? Have not had such a negative experience at any other liquor store in the area and definitely will not be going back here. Not worth the big selection to have my day ruined by a rude cashier. Wow, just got done with a transaction here and need to vent about the service I got. I dealt with Mike at the customer service desk about an online order, and thru the whole process he was abrupt and condescending, even making a comment to some coworkers behind me after he passed me off to a much more pleasant lady to finish the transaction. This was my first time at this location, usually go to Rosedale where I've always had great service. Today, however, I couldn't get out of this store fast enough.
