I had to be up not too far from here helping a someone out with a broken down car so after we were done with that I decided to stop by Tempe marketplace because I haven't been there in years mainly because I've been out of town. I barely recognized the place! But I kept driving around and got a little more oriented as I went along. I used to go to a Jo-Ann's or Michael's in the center but I can't remember which because I didn't see either and I know Joanne's has closed. Anyway as I was exploring, I saw the Total wine store and having had good experience with the one in San diego, I decided to stop by and see if they had Greek Retsina which is hard to find. They didn't have it and it was a dollar more than I had paid in San Diego but I think I got us sale price there. I remember years ago I used to be able to buy a gallon of it at a local Greek market for $5 but those days are gone. It was $12 for the one here so I bought it as a treat. The store was extremely neat and well laid out and a couple of employees I encountered were very helpful. I asked about lavender syrup and they had that. I asked about Ginger beer, the alcoholic kind, and they had that I happened on to a reasonably priced bottle of sangria so I got that and I've been out of beer forever so when I saw they had PBR for $10 or 12 pack I decided to go ahead and get it. This is usually my go-to spot for alcohol, aside from Costco. I really like that they offer in-store tastings so you can try before you buy, and their prices are generally very good. That said, I'm giving 3 stars due to a recent disappointing delivery experience. I had guests arriving today and, with a busy schedule, I placed a $146 delivery order for the 7-8 PM window. When it arrived (after dark), I set the box aside on the patio and didn't open it until today while stocking the cooler. Unfortunately, the box was damaged, it smelled like alcohol, and three cans were completely empty. You could clearly see the leak, and it was obvious something had spilled. It's frustrating that this was still sent out for delivery--especially from a store I frequent and usually trust. This was meant to be a time-saving convenience, but it ended up being a letdown. At this point, I wouldn't recommend the delivery option--there's no way to know if you'll receive damaged or unusable products. read more

I've been to numerous wine classes at different Total Wine's, and this one was similar. There were 8 different wines to sample, and interesting facts about each one. They also had individual charcuterie boxes which were nice and convenient. The gentleman teaching the class did a good job and even gave us an extra tasting of one of his favorites that wasn't on the line up. Stopped by Total Wine to grab a bottle of whiskey for a friend and had a great experience. The store was clean, staff was super helpful, and checkout was easy. Unfortunately, I dropped the bottle right outside the store and it shattered everywhere. The employees were incredibly understanding, helped me clean it up, and even let me grab a replacement bottle without charging me again. Awesome customer service and genuinely kind people. This is one of the worst Total Wine stores in the country. I mean, where do you start? Literally everything is bad. So poorly managed and run. Everything from the bathrooms (gross) to the sloppy sale signage (purposely misleading?...), to the cashiers (slow/unfriendly), management (lazy, unfriendly), just everything bad. read more

When our daughter was little, anytime we went somewhere that was a little over the top, she said "it's like Willy Wonka"! When I walked in to Total Wine, the first thing I thought was "this is like Willy Wonka"! I have never seen so much alcohol in one place. (I live smack in the middle of the Bible Belt. Our alcohol sales are very regulated.) We just arrived in Scottsdale for a family vacation. Half of us stayed back to wait for the Uber Eats delivery and the rest of us headed out for alcohol. Can't have pizza without beer. Can't have a vacation without tequila...you get the picture. When we arrived, we split up. I kid you not, we had a hard time regrouping the store was so big. Once we found each other, we took inventory of what each of us picked up and decided that we didn't need THAT much alcohol for only 4 days so we compromised and put some stuff back. If you can't find what you want at Total Wine then you've got a problem. There is a huge selection of spirits - I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't 40-50 tequila choices. The beer selection spanned multiple aisles including a refrigerated case and a beer cave where you'll find the kegs. Likewise, the wine selection was as large, probably larger than the beer section. My son is always on the lookout for small batch bourbons. He found a couple but only bought two - too risky to bring back in his suitcase without proper wrap. I'm going to say the prices weren't bad but I'm comparing prices to the "sin tax" that we pay at home. A lot of items were on sale - a few dollars off here and there but anything off is good by me. In addition to alcohol, you'll find a large selection of mixers and some snacks tucked in amongst the bottles. There are novelty items and a half the people in line were purchasing gift bags. The only issue that we had was customer service, or lack there of. None of us could find anyone to ask questions. Also, checkout was a nightmare - the lines 7-8 people deep. Ok, it was Friday after work, but then all of the registers should have been open, right? I've been to Total Wine in Atlanta and was amazed by that. This Total Wine just blew it out of the water! Best place in town with a huge selection for draft beer. Cheap rentals for kegerator $2 and tub $2. If you have a large party, buying draft beer has the same cost of buying small cans/bottles for the same volume, and your party sounds much cooler. First the restroom was gross but we did have someone help us find what we were looking for but it was very packed with boxes all over the place not a chill vibes it was a crazy holiday rush. Super friendly and helpful staff. Popped in quickly for a bottle of Nikka Coffey grain Whiskey. Jenn asked if I needed help and offered an opportunity to try a few alternative to my whiskey selection, though they did carry the bottle I came for. After dinner out, we needed to shop for a nice bottle of wine as a gift. We knew we wouldn't have a great deal of time the next day, so we were gratified to find this place. It was in a huge plaza with a lot of mall-satellite type stores. Parking was plentiful, but the lot was still crowded / busy. I guess this is a local or regional chain, as we were not familiar with it. Their displays were very helpful in guiding you towards whatever variety of wine you were looking for. Prices seemed okay. We were quickly able to zero in on a good gift bottle. Check-out was pretty quick. If I lived in this area, I'd consider returning here to check out further purchases. read more

Hands down one of the best all-in-one stops with an overwhelming selection. This could be described as a "warehouse" because of the fantastic prices & variety, but it's also a decently "classy" storefront that is organized & laid out very well. They carry almost everything! It's almost impossible not to find what you're looking for if it's common, and especially anything popular. But even the less popular & off the wall brands/items I've found here. There's a wide variety to choose from across the board- not at all limited & it can be a little overwhelming if you aren't sure exactly what you want or are looking to try something new. But aside from the abundant selection, the store is laid out very well & easy to navigate. Everything is organized & in it's proper place. The displays are all carefully designed but not obnoxious or compromising space like many other stores have a habit with creating cluttered isles. You can move around comfortably & clearly see what is on the shelves. Best of all- the prices here are extremely competitive. While mixers are about the same as you can find at most any other retailer, the beer, wine & liquor prices are significantly cheaper. On average, my favorite spirits are always $4-5 less than what I'd usually pay elsewhere. Plus, they've never been low or out of stock on anything. There's also multiple locations around the Valley, and that just adds to the convenience factor here. Plus, if you can't find something in particular, you have the option to order it! Its a great retail environment with some party food options, great glasses and stemware. Paper products for parties, and mixes to pull it all together. I like the tasting stations, and they even have a growler station. Service is good with a well dressed crew that either can help or will get the answer. Prices are average, even sale prices are average and most excellent bargains are found in grocery stores and Costco. Just purchased some really amazing mead. Store has everything you can imagine to drink your sorrows away. The reason behind the 1 star was at checkstand 2 this employee had her light on Carrie is her name. I was waiting while she had her back turned to me. Must have been a few minutes. Then demanded my ID. All the others there know me rather well know I'm way over 18. That aside the way she went about the interaction seemed to have inconvenienced her. I didn't even want to put my phone number in there. I have a broken spine and having a rude employee not manning her register causing me even more pain just added insult to injury. If I go here again and she's the one ringing me up Id rather wait in a longer line then to be rang up by her. So I'm conclusion I'm not mad about her asking for my ID but I was perturbed by how she handled the entire transaction. You should be looking out for the customer not doing whatever you were doing and going about it in a rude way. Apologies go a long way in customer service id know I used to work it. The rest of the employees there are really amazing. There's another there she always gives my kids treats and interacts with them. Only other issue I had was last year about having my kid bend down to get my mead. Again broken spine got it while I was in the military but non duty related and me seeking out help was going to add to my pain. Lo and behold the Pineapple Sculpin runs a plenty here!! As does the Mango Even Keel and Mother Earth's Cali Creamin in the larger glass bottles (as opposed to the cans)! This place in my book is now known as Total WIN! No longer do I have to travel to Tucson for the best selection of SD craft beers. My recent order was for three different things and I got just two of them and some whiskey someone else had ordered. I had not added a tip online for the driver because I wanted to give the tip at my house, which I did. But when I looked at the receipt later they had added a hefty tip on my bill, along with the delivery charge. But what I really like it is they have a lot of the really hard to find liquors like specific Bourbons that I like or specific whiskeys that I like. This is my go to liquor store. They not only have the best daily prices for spirits, but on the rare occasion where Fry's grocery or other local store has a seasonal sale, Total Wine price matches. Walmart doesn't even do this anymore. Add to that, this place has a huge selection of liquor brands and flavors within those brands. They also sell a wide selection of beers and wines. I am a member of their free membership club and have attended private tasting events. However, half the time I go here there is a public sampling going on in the store. Another bonus is the knowledgeable staff. I have always found them to friendly and knowledgeable. They have always willing to help with suggestions and general information when looking for something special as a gift or wanting to try something new. read more

This is the perfect place to come to if you are looking to change up your usual beverage choice and look outside the box.
