Love this place, great selection, and they always have the wine I want at a discounted price! Tonight, I wanted to try something different, but it was a long day working in the operating room, and I was short of patience. So I grabbed a sales associate -- Carmella Racanelli. I can't tell you how glad I was! She helped me figure out how to find the sales, using my cell phone (I'm somewhat electronically challenged!). As if that were not enough, she said "how can I help you now" and proceeded to take care of me. She took the lead on flagging down someone to grab the case from the top shelf. And then helped me find a unique bottle of bourbon that I have been trying to find everywhere else. She said, "Don't open the case of wine, let me grab you one bottle for the cashier to ring up." All the while, she was so pleasant and knowledgeable. She made everything so simple and I am so grateful for her help! I will definitely be coming back here again! read more

This huge place has excellent prices, including discounts off mixed cases of non-sale wine. Excellent selection of craft beers, foreign beers, etc at best prices in area. Lots of parking and staff eager to give you their opinions. For 5 stars, it would need to expand its wine selection--somehow, although it is large, it seldom includes reasonably priced wines I see recommended by Wine Spectator, the NY Times or a restaurant--it seems to have too many private labels (similar to Trader Joe's foreign wines). read more

Google Maps directed me to this booze warehouse on the way up to Montclair from Philly and man was I pleased. I was really working the beer angle since Pennsylvania's horrendous liquor laws make things hard on we Belgian beer fiends that don't want to drop over $100.00 on a case of one single flavor. That being said I didn't peruse the many aisles dedicated to non-beer alcohol. But the beer... so much good beer and singles of everything. As for the Belgians I picked up some Dupont Saison, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Trappistes Rochefort 10, and Duvel. American craft brews as well; Flying Dog, Shipyard, Tröegs, Avery; not everything you can think of but certainly a wide enough variety to keep a beer snob like myself busy for quite some time. Plenty of shopping carts and empty cases for customer use and helpful service; the young woman I found happily fetched my uncommon requests from the back within two minutes. My lord this place is wine heaven...the wine selection and prices are incredible. You can get lost in this place! They also have samplings going on all the time and the staff is friendly...if they aren't already busy with someone elses question. I stocked up with so many good wines (Cab, Shiraz, Malbec, Sangiovese...the list goes on and on...and with their low prices the more you buy, the better the discount. Look for discounts by joining their email list as well. Hands down the most rude staff I've ever encountered. Managers are like Nazi's with ID's so if you have an under aged child with you, plan on leaving them in the car. Alone. On Route 22. Prices are high and speaking to any of the two women who manage the store will make you want to play in traffic. Total Wine has a decent selection and kegs on site. The prices are affordable and there are many beverage options. But, I would honestly go to literally any other liquor store because of how horrible their customer service is. The cashiers don't want to move from their spot, the people on the floor could not care less about their job, almost everyone I interacted with had an attitude, and they are just not helpful. Everyone there was rude and barely knew anything about what they were selling. The past two times I've been here the cashier has messed up something about my order. The worst part is you can swipe your credit card ahead of time, and then it just goes through once they hit finished. There's no way to cancel the processing on your end. Don't swipe ahead of time! Their coupon system is messed up. If you buy wine that is on sale, the amount deducted against that sale takes away from the coupon. So we has a coupon for $15 off $100 or more of wine and the coupon only saved us $4. It wasn't a great deal to begin with, and it's frustrating that buying wine on sale is almost frowned upon. I drive 2.5 hours just to come to Total Wine. Your one stop shop for wine, liquor, champaigne and craft beer. I was here for three hours and loaded up my car with all of my favorite beverages. No I'm not an alcoholic! I like my spirits : ) Prices are good and theres no need to ask for a liquor discount. The signs will tell you want can be discounted. Went in today to purchase some wine like I do at least 3-4 times a month at this location and when I went over to an associate for help he was to focused in his conversation with the cashier that he seemed bothered to help me . I kindly explained to him that the wine was out of stock on the self and that I saw multiple boxes of the wine stocked on the top shelf and needed help to get it . I was expecting for him to end his personal conversation with the other staff member and follow me so that I could show him where it was at but he continued talking to the cashier instead of helping me . I stood there for about two minutes waiting for him to finish his conversation and then got annoyed and just walked away purchasing only the items I had in my cart already . read more

The most hilarious situation happened to me at this liquor store, but first I'll say 5 stars this place is awesome. Dank selection, great prices.. I was standing in line with two friends (we are all black). An employee walked up and out of nowhere a bottle of Hennessey appears in front of us. "This for you guys right?" He asks... More of a modern supermarket of beer, wine and liquor, Total Wine does stock a lot of products that other stores don't. Their prices tend to be average to a bit below average. There are some very knowledgeable and helpful sales associates, and several who aren't. It can be a bit of a pain to get to, but once found (on the far opposite side of the WalMart parking lot) it isn't too bad. read more

This liquor store is my go to in the area. It has everything & more. The employees are pretty knowledgeable & they are always able to give you various suggestions based on your taste or price range. Plus the prices are really decent and range from inexpensive to pricey based on the item. They also have a great craft & international beer selection along with your usual hard liquor & wines. Poor customer service, a rude staff, over priced, and simply too big of a location. Going here for a bottle of wine is like going to shop rite for a pack of gum- you have to walk a mile inside the place just to get what you're looking for and you probably passed 8 other places to get the same item on the way. I only come here in pure desperation. The staff seem less than thrilled to assist you and arent that knowledgeable. Im pretty well versed in the wine dept so i can help myself. If it were just based on this then id give 3 stars however when parking in their lot i received damage to my car from a loose cart. It happened on a windy day when a careless patron left it in the middle of lot which i get happens however they always have carts everywhere!!!! I immediately contacted the manager & spoke w Debbie, she then directed me to corporate where i filed a claim. I begged & encouraged them to view video cameras. Unfortunately they didnt want to take any responsibility! I have a nice sized dent in my then brand new car. Brought it to the BMW dealership & was quoted an insane amount! Over 2,000! read more

Excellent Customer Service I made a purchase this evening online for in-store pick-up. My mom was out and I asked her to pick up my items (13 bottles of various wines). I was made to know the workers could take up to 2 hours to have everything ready, however it was ready in under 1 hour. I got the email that my Order was ready before mom got there. Also once mom got there I remembered that I wanted "Jam Jar" (an excellent and inexpensive label, a sweet red Shiraz) which they didn't have last time I was there. Mom didn't know anything about what Jam Jar was (she thought it's jars to store jams, lol) and the employees kindly helped her to locate this delicious wine. Finally also I used my club card on the purchase (it's free to join, I highly recommended )which gives you points etc on purchases and maybe more coupons? I usually always buy and always forgot to use my rewards card. Thank you Total Wines & More, Union location, for your excellent customer service and for helping my mom with my order. This is a very good place for single bottles of craft beers -- and I'm talking about the 12 oz singles. There is also a great selection of 6 packs, very well organized. Great prices! I always feel like there is not enough people work in this location. There can always be more registers open, and you have to usually walk all the way to the front to that little box to find someone to help you. If you do pass someone in the aisles they are usually boggled down helping someone else. The selection of liquor is really good and you can always ask them for something that you cant find, they will usually tell you if its just out of stock or if they can order it. Was there today with my husband and brother who just had literally arrived from Brazil the same day to buy 3 bottles of wine and one craft beer for a dinner to celebrate him arriving. At the checkout line the clerk was a young woman who instead of being nice and telling us that unfortunately because he was with us and 20 years old we could not buy what we wanted she then was rude and embarrassed us which then she called over the manager. The manager also treated us badly ... We always buy our wine there every week or so! We have never felt so embarrassed. Things could have been done differently. Never going back there. Not that it matters to them, however my brother felt indifferent and thought they didn't want to sell anything to us because he didn't speak English. Very sad how we were treated! :( read more

I discovered Total Wine remotely via a cross-country yelp search. I was looking for a local wine store that could deliver to St. Barnabas Medical Center, as soon as possible. As I learned, most local NJ wine stores only ship or deliver in bulk with at least 24 hrs notice. Just when I thought a same-day rush delivery service was impossible, the managers of Total Wine earned their angel wings. They heard my boss's tale of a grieving family at a bedside vigil needing a little relief and accommodated the request, with no added charges or minimums. In a particularly emotional turn of events, they reached the hospital room just seconds after their beloved had passed, making the delivery a very cathartic moment that Bruce would have wanted. Their exemplary service has created a lasting memory. Wish I was a local to use them always. read more

As a preface; disregard Steve's claim of it being hard to find. If you take the next exit off 22 their sign is pretty easy to see & as soon as you exit it's right there. Also, I'm not much of a wine drinker so this review will be on everything else. They always seem to have a good assortment of imported beers in addition to having the classic domestics I always look for(Brooklyn Brown, Sam Adams, Leinenkugel). Most of the less popular items have signs telling you about them so it makes it easier to decide. Prices are competitive, any person I asked for help always was if not with a big bright fake smile that some reviewers seem to be offed by. In addition they have a good selection of spirits, cordials, etc as I've never left here empty handed. It's almost never crowded(I usually go Saturday morning) & if they dont have a particular selection the mgr will at least try to see if they can get it. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they dont always remove "past it's prime" beer selections off the shelf(in a non-green colored bottle most beers will stay fresh up to 6 mos of bottling date & some will show you exp or bottled date but some dont so it can be a crapshoot sometimes. read more

I used to be a fan of Total Wine. That is when I could just go in, buy what I want, and leave with no issue. However, due to the last time I visited, I will never go back. One Saturday I promised one of my close friends I would help them pick out a bottle of something for their Mom's birthday. I had limited time to take them and make it to work, and chose to visit Total Wine. We picked out a bottle, a gift bag, a few snacks and went to the counter... At the counter I am asked for ID. Sure, no problem. Show the cashier my ID. However, she then asks for my friends. I am 26 and my friend is 36, however she did not have her ID on her at the time. I explain I am the one who is buying this and am rudely informed that is the policy and I am out of luck. As a result I had to rush to a normal liquor store that only ID's buyers and get the bottle. Had to pay a couple of dollars more, couldn't get a nice bag and had to rush to work. I will never go back to this place. I think the policy is crazy. Are you telling me if a single mother comes in to buy a bottle of wine with her daughter she can't buy it because the daughter is underage? The use of this policy in this situation seemed like a total abuse of power and I will NEVER be back. read more

I've been shopping at several Total Wine stores in NJ for years. My collection of wine has been expanded from a few California bottles to a few hundred bottles including first growth Bordeaux and Italian Barolo to the tune of several thousands of dollars. Total Wine generally has a a broad selection at decent prices. I have found that some specific staff members at the Total Wine Union have a general problem with attitude. I ran into a guy "Adam" this week and he couldn't have been a more condescending and rude jerk. I had a question about a specific item and I didn't quite understand, to which he replied "what did I say?" Are you kidding me buddy?I'll tell you what I say, Gary's Wine and Wine Library sell the same stuff and are more than willing to ship for free. I don't know what this Adam's problem is, but it completely sucks and not worth the aggravation to stop at Total Wine Union again. read more

They get one star because of the selection. Now, earlier I was speaking to a friend about how rude the staff is. They walk around and do not speak to you. However, it's the only liquor store on my way home. One day I was standing at the register, the cashier was at customer service having a personal conversation with other employees.... They noticed me standing there waiting to pay for a $55.00 bottle of Grey Goose. One of the managers told her you have a customer, and she said ok. Continued her conversation. Left me waiting for another 2 minutes. Came over and rang me up without apology. I was not really interested in visiting the store again... But today, I go in and one of the staff members was bringing 2 empty baskets to put near the front door as I had entered. She said, "excuse me", while I was forced to stop in my tracks and allow her to cross in front of me. This will be my last time ever in this store. One star! read more
