Always a great wine selection, my wife and i did all of our adult beverage shopping here since the store opened. For the most part i can say all of the workers at this particular location have been helpful and friendly, some friendly then others; however yesterday around 1pm I was the bud of the worst customer service experience i have ever had since sending my money at Total Wine. I'm renovating my home office and I had to stop by Home Depot to pick some material to complete the work so I decide to pick up a bottle of wine since Total Wine is in the same complex, I didn't want to come back out. As I walked in I noticed the crowd was thin and i thought to myself I should be able to get in and out in no time; I can grab a bottle of Gumdale Cab 1.5 liter and be back home to finish my project. When I went to pick up a bottle from the shelf i noticed they were out of my particular brand, it was not highly displayed as usual; I also noticed this last week when I was there so I had to settle for a different blend(Shiraz). So I proceeded to look for someone who worked there and behold I spotted a worker, an older lady, slim, blond hair with glasses; I don't know her name however I have seen her in the store before. I went to her and said excuse me, do you have any Gumdale Cab in stock there's seems to be nothing on the shelves Her told me I had to get someone else to assist me, no smile and not friendly at all it was like I was disturbing her; then she most have remember that i'm the customer you are the worker and she got on her headset to find out the status of the wine. Then she proceed to say in a very nasty way you are in the wrong selection and I said I know where the Cab selection is, I was looking for someone to assist me; she then proceeded to get on her headset to followup on her request. It was obvious to me that I was not going to get a positive response for this worker so I went back to the shelves to check for myself and behold i discovered three bottles of Gumdale but way in the back behind another brand. So i decided to informed the worker of my discovery and before i could update her she informed me there is a new shipment that has been delivered however it's on the truck and we have not unloaded it yet check back later. So I said I found a bottle on the back of the shelf and she give me the most nonchalant look I have ever seen from someone who works at a place where I frequently spend my money, oh but wait it gets better, here's the finale. So I proceed to the register and I still hear one of the managers behind the managers booth still waiting for an status update on the Gumdale shipment. So told her I was the customer looking for the Gumdale Cab in the 1.5 liter bottle and I found a bottle on the back infact there's two more bottles left on the back of the shelf. This female worker who is suppose to be the manager (probably not trained) presented with the same tone the previous presented me with. I was like wow! In closing I don't know if this is how the workers display their appreciation to customers that spends their money at this particular location. Maybe because I was dressed a certain way, maybe I should have settled for another brand; it doesn't matter. I have to reconsider shopping there and shop at the Wine Library instead. I wish other stores had this selection. They are rude at the desk when you call in to ask about wines. It shouldn't matter the price, but it's particularly distrubing when they catch an attitude when you are asking about $90-$150 bottles - and buying many of them. The have no way to communicate the vintage issue. It's either substitute or not. Can't verify if that is a good year before it goes out the door. Customer service acts like their hands are tied - so why have an 855 number. Make us just work with the store. Sad as they have so much potential. Hopeflly everywhere besides Union NJ is better. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. I went in there today with my husband to pick up some johnny walker blue label for my father for Christmas. When we get to the checkout I asked my husband to go start the car since it was raining and cold and to meet me in the front. The cashier, Jackie, doesn't speak and just waits for me to hand her my I.d which I gladly did (Does it hurt to say "hello" or actually ASK to see my I.d as opposed to just staring at me?). After she checks my I.d she then asks to see my husbands I.d as well after he left the store and refused to sell me my purchase until she saw his (mind you, we are both well over 30 years old). I called him on the cell to come back. As I'm standing there waiting for him to come back I noticed that this cashier didn't bother to ask anyone else for their I.d. I understand it's policy in most liquor stores to I.d everyone, even if they aren't the one making the purchase. However, as I stood there and she didn't I.d anyone else ( some of whom looked younger than I did) I felt like it was done out of spite because she heard me ask my husband to bring the car around and watched him leave. Im not upset about having to show my id or having him come back to show his. Policy is policy. However, it should be used on EVERYONE. Not just who you pick and choose. read more

The greatest, cheapest and widest selection of beer wine and liquor. The staff is so knowledgeable and never leads us wrong. The prices are the best in the area. They have wine tasting Fridays and Saturdays and offer coupons to email users. Nothing bad to say here. read more

When we first moved to Jersey, we used to go Gary's, The Wine Library, and Bayway. They are all really good but we have found our place in the sun. A friend recommend Total Wine in Essex Green and we found there a larger store with prices that were a little less expensive. While driving on Rt 22 one day, we saw a sign for Total Wine and we wondered if it was the same chain. We stopped in and were pleasantly surprised that it was. I try not to take a salesperson's recommendations as I feel they are trying to sell what isn't moving or they make a bigger profit - so we would read labels and based on our knowledge make educated choices. About 7 months ago a salesperson Matt Z came to offer help. (My skeptacism flashed), but I took his recommendation on 2 bottles - one a Chianti and one a Cremant. They were YUMMY. We went back a few weeks later and Matt was there. We started to talk wine and told him what are palate liked and he made several recommendations - we took them all. Each and every one of them passed our expectations. We have subsequesntly been back about 3 more times since that first experience. We now only shop, except in an emergency - (at a BYOB and we don't have a bottle) at Total Wine. We recommend them higly. Ask for Matt. read more

DO NOT STEP FOOT INTO THIS STORE IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU ARE WITH DOESN'T HAVE AN ID. I went with three other people & we are all over 21. Two of my friends wanted to buy a collector's beer & a glass to go with it. I did not carry anything. I didn't even stand on line with them. But because they saw them talking to me earlier, they didn't want to sell to them because I left my ID at home. THEY DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO SELL THE GLASS TO HIM. When we got back to the store, we still had to wait on line. The person that dealt with us the first time avoided us. So I confronted him & he did not apologize for the inconvenience. HE ACTUALLY SAID I HAVE NO COMMON SENSE FOR NOT CARRYING MY ID WITH ME. He also was talking under his breath as I was walking away. The worst store policy I've ever encountered. Nothing in that store is worth the trouble they gave us. The manager & cashier were ABSOLUTELY RUDE. Makes me wonder what happens if a parent comes in with a child. Make sure your child has his ID or you won't be able to purchase anything lol. I'm so done with this store. Come to this store if you want to feel like an underage kid trying to get alcohol. & they don't even deserve the one star I am forced to give. read more
