We have shopped here before when in Virginia Beach. Overall, this is a solid shop for wine and beer. The wine prices were pretty reasonable and Total Wine had many sales and promotions. We liked the beer selection too, but were hoping for a little more variety. (We are spoiled by having Binny's in Chicago where you can find any niche brand of beer you can think of!) I always like to have the local breweries represented, but I was hoping to see more of the local-flavor beers aside from the craft beers. We got the Narragansett Jaws edition 15 packs of lager, but wanted to see more of the National Bohemian's etc available. I always like to check out the brands only available in that area. I crave the weird brands that the grandpas used to drink!! On our visit we got too sample a few wines and the employees are all very knowledgeable and helpful. My friend and I attended a wine class at Total Wine last month and had a great time! The theme of the class was Sparkling Wine so we were able to taste a wide range of sparkling wine from dry champagnes to proseccos. With this being my first wine class at Total Wine, I was pleasantly surprised by the set up. They offered small bites, charcuterie style, for us to snack on during class and we sat at actual tables, ready to learn and enjoy the wine. Our instructor was amazing! He touched on the regions from which the grapes were produced as well as the different types of champagne and sparkling wine. We sampled about 8 different varieties of wine. Some I enjoyed, others not so much lol. Overall, it was a great event and for $20, you really can't beat it. Pop Open a Party (Sparkling Wine Class) I'm not usually a big sparkling wine person, but with summer coming up, I figured it was the perfect time to give it another try -- and honestly, I just love taking wine classes here because I always learn something new. This class was held at Total Wine & More and, like always, it was a great experience. The classes are typically around 20 people, which makes it feel social but not overcrowded. They set you up with a simple grazing spread in the back -- cheeses, crackers, olives, salami, pepperoni, and bread -- plus water at your seat, which is always appreciated when you're tasting multiple wines. For this class, we tasted about 5-6 sparkling wines. The instructor was super friendly, engaging, and made the whole experience fun -- lots of laughs, very relaxed, and honestly just a great way to kick off a Thursday night going into the weekend. Now for the wines... I'll be honest, sparkling still isn't really my thing The only one I truly enjoyed was the first one -- a Bellini, which was on the sweeter side. The instructor mentioned it wasn't his personal preference since he leans away from sweet wines, but for me, that was the standout. That said, I would absolutely take another class. Even when I don't love every wine, I always walk away with more knowledge and a better understanding of what I do (and don't) like. And of course... it's basically impossible to leave without buying something. I ended up grabbing a few mixers (triple sec, watermelon, and butterscotch), all very reasonably priced. Between the huge selection (they even carry ice wines, which I love), friendly staff, and consistently fun classes, this is a spot I'll keep coming back to. This is my weekend spot. I come here on Fridays to taste new wines and buy for the weekend. This is located in a plaza with other stores and plenty of parking. The staff here can help you find what you are looking for. You can ask for a specific brand or even an acquired taste. They will give you their recommendation. I have yet to be disappointed in my selections. It can be a beer, wine or spritzers they can help. They also have a tasting room for events they hold. Those are great with some simple pairings. This location is a little weird to access with the way Virginia Beach has these side service roads and such, but when there's wine, there's a way! Similar to its Norfolk location, I love how clean and properly labeled the store is. I'm recently getting into wine so I love to wander around for a bit looking at the various choices. Not overwhelming, but it makes me ready to expand my horizons. Last time I got the last of the moscato I wanted and this time they were fully stocked. Employees are kind, of course, and are not super forceful with the rewards program (though they did finally get me to sign up because why not?). PS: My favorite location because it sells Villa Jolanda. Never knew until I asked, but the Total Wines in the area do not sell certain brands. For example, only VB sells this brand. I see no reason to not go all the way with this Total Wine location in the Hilltop area of Virgina Beach. After probably over forty visits in a decade this is a very tardy review. The consistency has earned my business again and and again. The store is in the Hilltop Shopping Center to the West. Parking is plentiful and typically the lot and walks are clear of debris. The floor plan of this Total Wine is one of the larger in Hampton Roads. Is bigger better, yes! They have an incredible selection of wine, craft beer and cigars. It's unusual that I can not locate what I'm looking for. This is where the extra star comes from. The staff is superb and knowledgeable about their product and inventory. With the swipe of a wand, or a tap of a key stroke they can answer harder to questions like a recent visit I had. I have had a few positive interactions with the store manager that have impressed me. The store including restrooms are kept tidy. The displays attractive and the shelves kept orderly. Not an easy task with such a massive amount of floor space. Educational classes and wine tastings are offered. Check out their website for details on dates and times. It seems like every Saturday a wine tasting is going on. Let's talk pricing. They are competitive, but not always the most reasonable and at times I have found them much more expensive. This Total Wine location is truly my happy place. I think I spend 30-45 minutes here even when I know exactly what I'm looking for. The selection of international, national and regional wine, beer and cider is unmatched. I was even able to find Jackie O's Razz Wheat, my favorite beer from a craft brewery in Athens, Ohio. I have not had an opportunity to attend any of the classes, but in reading the descriptions, I'm definitely interested. I've only had one minor issue here and that's when an employee didn't accept my coupon. I contacted a manager and they were able to rectify the situation. Decent Wine and Beer Selections After living down in NE Florida the past 8 yrs. I was excited to find that this Total Wine had a bigger selection of beer and it's more divided up by the country of where the different beers come from. I do like that they have a bathroom here as I've found that sometimes in the middle of a selection you get that urge to go. I usually spend about 30-40 minutes in here looking at different brews and checking the Untapped App to see if certain brews sound good or not. However lately I've often found the selection of some beers to be dwindling. So much so that I've had to turn to Grape and Gormet, Whole Foods and recently Mix-it-up off Shore Dr. Which sometimes have a better selection. **Overall, I have no complains about the place and they even at times have special selections/rare brews they keep behind the counter that is good to check out too. My go to items are Zardetto/Prosecco, Bonanza/ Cabernet Sauvignon and Wild Wolf Area 151/ Beer. In addition to adult beverages, they also carry gift items such as wine stoppers, gift bags, cigars and much more. Hence the "More" part to their name. I've been on the hunt for one of my favorites Ace Space and this is the first place aside from a brewery or tap house that I've been able to find it. This store lives up to the name of "total wine and more" their wine selection is the largest I have been able to find in Virginia Beach along with their beer selection. They have pretty much a little bit of everything you could need for a night of drinking. They have a small snack selection, drink garnishes, glasses, bottle openers, drink mixes, and well more. My favorite thing is their build your own six pack where you can cruise down the aisle of individual beers and create a custom six pack of what you know you will like or want to try without the commitment of buying a whole pack. The customer service has always been excellent and they have a rewards program which of course in itself is a reason to at least check this place out. If you need a suggestion talk to a staff member they are always willing to help and suggest something that will hopefully work out for you. Also their prices are cheaper for certain items than at another wine store or grocery store so more wine for cheaper! read more

What a terrible experience. So my girlfriend realized she left her ID in the car so she left to avoid any hassles at the register. Not realizing we were together, 2 of the cashiers made a joke about her stealing. I wasn't in the mood to go viral and had already paid, so I left. To make it even better (sarcasm), we weren't greeted upon entering or exiting. We did have the pleasure of watching employees greet other -White-customers. Don't want me to play the race card? My aunt, my dad and I came here last night for a beer tasting in their back room. $10 entry, and it came with delicious snacks, and 12 samples of beer. The two men hosting did a wonderful job explaining the biological process and the history behind each type of beer we sampled, from its origins to its American doppelgänger. After the event, which lasted about two hours, we browsed the store and ended up picking up a four pack of banana bread beer from the U. K. section. Definitely tastes like banana bread! I hope I can find this back in the bay in California! I probably won't ever get to return here but it is definitely a place I would buy alcohol from regularly if I lived nearby. read more

It's Total Wine -- so of course it's brilliant! Thousands upon thousands of bottles to choose from. This location has a particularly fancy high-end cellar with some real gems, as well as a number of more affordable, quality bottles. They do monthly classes that you can get tickets for. I've been to two here now and enjoyed both of them. Compared to classes I've been to at other locations, the staff here does a great job of setting up a good spread of treats/snacks and a great job with the educational component of the courses. The facility isn't as new or upscale as others I've been to, but it's functional and rarely crowded, which is nice. As others mentioned, it's a little awkward to get to because the roads are sort of weird here with the main Laskin and the service roads, but as long as you don't end up going the wrong way, you'll be fine. Love total Wines. My favorite place. They have the best selection on Wines and beer. My husband went in looking for a creme brulee beer but we left out with something better. His beer was out of season. I ended up finding my new favorite beer, Lindemann peche. It's a lambic and sweet just perfect. The guy that helped up was nothing short of amazing. Very knowledgeable and informative. Shawana was great also during the quick wine tasting. Those reds were yummy and my crimson red was delish. Great job guys keep up the great work. I had shopped at this location before. Today I entered immediately going to the customer service desk asking for help finding a dry white wine to cook with. The first person I asked said "I'm off the clock, ask someone else", Another clerk came to me and I asked my question, she said "I can't help you with that" and then turned to the person I asked first to ask my question. She said no I'm off the clock, ask someone else. The clerk then asked on her headset, for someone to come up to help me. Without ever coming back to me, I stood there like an idiot, waiting for some person to help me. After another 7 MINUTES, I left the store. I will never return. This is a total fail on the part of a store that supposedly prides itself on customer service. I went across the street to Trader Joe's and in under a minute, I not only had someone to help, they worked with me and I purchased 3 bottles of wine. I worked in retail for multiple years - this is a store that needs to train it's staff better. A simple answer, like our wine staff are all with other customer's right now. If you go to xyz aisle, they will be with you shortly" would have sufficed. Now you have an angry consumer who will make sure that she tells all of her friends and contacts of the truly rotten service she got at this store. read more

Wow what an awesome store! I walked in here awestruck after seeing how big the store is and all that it has to offer. I could spend hours in here! They sort their wine by reviews/ratings, region, type, and then sell all the accessories you need to go with wine. They also have an awesome selection of beer. I love that they give descriptions on a big portion of their wine and beer. They sell cigars too for those who are interested. I also love that they have classes for brewing and fermenting wine and wine tasting! The prices are affordable and they have a HUGE VARIETY!! read more

This was one of the most impressive Total Wines I've been to- completely massive beer selection even more than other Total Wines. 2500+ bottles is probably correct. I found a lot of interesting stuff here especially from Japan and Italy, they even had Panil Barrique which is an amazing sour beer impossible to find anywhere. Tons of singles, lots of locals, only qualm is that macro crap was in the small fridge and all the IPAs and DIPAs were on the shelf. Come on. read more

She was very patient, experienced, and had a bubbly personality the entire time. She helped us select two red wines that were great and were exactly what I was looking for.
