I paid 105$ on my card -- I even went as far as to show your therapist the math on a calculator on my phone to try to communicate the reasoning behind my tipping. You left your therapist out to dry instead of trying to help communicate to her, you walked away. Customary tipping in the United States is between 12-15% aka $12.50 - $15.75. Furthermore, $20 USD is equivalent to ¥136.57 CNY and ¥ 3143.71 JPY as of closing today, which is well over what the standard wage within both those economies. Also -- why are we quoting ¥ when I paid in USD -- are customers suppose to be paying in different currency? Totally fine if we are but I was not made aware of that and it seems you and your therapist got a fair compensation per USD and ¥ standards. I'm a business owner too -- and my employees see tips as just extras because of their proper compensation, I do that intentionally so situations like this don't put my customers or employees in an uncomfortable situation. The conversation would have been different if you and your staff weren't so rude. If you read the review thoroughly you would see that the issue wasn't the therapist's service per say. The issue was the following in more detail, since a simple "sorry for your bad experience" is no longer a thing and you've insulted me -- the customer: - it seems like accountability is a new concept to you -- meanwhile you left your therapist to fend for herself with her bad attitude and not knowing how to communicate with the customer. Her desperation for an additional $5 is alarming, which is where the comment of "IF SHE EVEN GETS AN HOURLY WAGE" came from. This whole experience must have been stressful for her too especially without proper training or support. - Interesting how the male client that walked in while I was at the front trying to pay and leave was treated much differently. ALSO, interesting how you felt the need to respond to my review when there was another negative review right below this one. I wouldn't go as far as to say sexist and racist behavior -- but this response shows for itself. - AND be sure to properly display the licenses of your establishment AND your therapists' licenses from the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) at the front of the establishment. "...massage therapists must display their original CAMTC certificate (not a copy) in a conspicuous, public place at their workplace. This is typically in the reception, waiting area, or a visible location at the entrance" THIS IS THE LAW and I certainly didn't see any of the many therapists' state issued licenses anywhere in the common areas. - the questionable working environment with employees napping and bugs in the facility is the least of the issues, although upsetting is fixable. I fear this place has other more important issues to address. - the ATROCIOUS behavior you all exhibited in response and your therapist's harassment. Your defensive response shows for itself, instead of being a keyboard warrior, lead by a better example for your employees. I booked a 40-minute massage advertised at $40. When I called, I was simply told that the next available time was at 4:45 PM. From that conversation, we were under the impression that any time after 4:45 would be fine, and we were never explicitly told that we were being booked for exactly 4:45 PM. As a result, we arrived a few minutes after 4:45 and the massage began around 4:55 PM. However, the session still ended around 5:25 PM, meaning I paid for a 40-minute massage but only received about 30 minutes of actual massage time. Another odd thing my girlfriend and I noticed was the inconsistency in the massages themselves. We paid for the exact same service, but our experiences were noticeably different. I was assigned a female therapist while my girlfriend was assigned a male therapist, which was perfectly fine, but my girlfriend received a much more thorough massage that included work down her legs, whereas I did not receive the same treatment despite us paying for the same service. It left us confused as to why there was such a difference in what was provided. What really pushed me to write this review, however, was the checkout experience. I offered a $5 tip and was immediately told there was a "$10 minimum." I have absolutely no issue tipping and fully understand that massage therapists deserve to be compensated for their work. However, I have never in my life been told how much I was required to tip, especially when there were no signs, notices, or disclosures stating that gratuity was mandatory. If customers are expected to pay a mandatory $10 gratuity, that should be clearly communicated beforehand or included in the advertised price. Instead, I felt pressured at checkout after already receiving less time than I had paid for. To make matters worse, the difference between a 40-minute massage and a one-hour massage is only $10, meaning I effectively paid the price of an hour-long massage while receiving only about 30 minutes of service. The massage itself was decent, but the lack of communication and transparency completely overshadowed the experience. I left feeling more taken advantage of than relaxed, which is the exact opposite of how a massage experience should end. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I hope management addresses these issues because no customer should pay for 40 minutes, receive 30, and then be told there is a "$10 minimum" tip requirement that was never disclosed beforehand.
