Being used to the eclectic and energetic vibes of city life, we had inhibitions in how she would take to attending such a small and quiet school. Along with her previous classmates and guides, she was used to walking the streets of Brooklyn, taking the ferry to Manhattan, and walking to various public parks. When we arrived to see Guidepost Montessori at Fairfax, we were struck by its quaintness. The children have their own play area in the back of the schoolhouse, surrounded by a picket fence. It is intimate, yet spacious enough for all of the children to enjoy. The school is very clean and organized. The classrooms are set up in typical Montessori fashion, with the added charm of displayed artwork made by the pupils. The faculty takes the time to decorate for the seasons and holidays. The most charming and wonderful aspect of this school is the faculty. From the Head of School, the Administrative Director, to the Lead Guides, Assistant Guides and After School guides, everyone is kind, caring, patient and gentle, and respectful. They immediately treated our family as one of their own. They are the reason our daughter loves going to school each day. She has flourished under their care and guidance and we cannot thank them enough.

The school is the perfect size - large enough that there are plenty of teachers and friends, but small enough that all the kids and teachers know each other well. I also really like that the church location is set back from the road and more discreet for safety purposes. My kids have always loved the outdoor spaces as well - even when they were in-between playgrounds. The staff is incredibly loving and positive. They contact us whenever there is any issue, but when they have had to deal with things that could have been frustrating (potty training accidents, unexpected illness) they have never made me feel bad or embarrassed. One other aspect of Rise and Shine that we love is that our boys have had the opportunity to learn from teachers from other countries and some who speak different languages. I love that their teachers contribute to their learning and growth in ways that I haven't even thought of. Highly recommend!

It checked all my boxes of being clean, diverse, and a learning environment but it also was organized. I appreciated that each room had a picture and description of each teacher including their background and how long they have worked there. I also loved that there was a dry erase board with information on next diaper and next bottle. As any new parents, we were nervous about the care anyone would provide that wasn't us. Now being at Chesterbrook for over 6 months with our son, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! The cleanliness and organization continue to stand out, along with the teachers and principals kindness and love to not only our son but the other children there. They use an app called Links2Home and we get 4-6 pictures on average of our son throughout the day. Communication through the app with the teachers and principals have been quick and responsive to our requests. Recently we had asked them to switch the order in which he eats, bottles first then solids and they adapted within the next feeding time for our son. This past Friday they had a petting zoo and give us monthly finger paintings our son has done. It's difficult to allow someone else to watch your only child but I will say I have seen him blossom and become so social with others as well as seeing his natural joy be nourished with the same love that my partner and I give. Love this place!!

We chose Little Flock for that very reason instead of enrolling our son at some daycare center. My son was here for 2018 summer program and 2018-19 school year for pre K2. At 2 years old he started with very limited words, by limited I mean a handful of words such as: mama, daddy and ate. His means of communication was pointing to things and dragging anyone to places he wants to be. He finished the school year speaking in full sentences. Credit to LFCS' marvelous music and language program which taught both Arabic and Spanish as part of their curriculum. Loved that his class would sing in both languages. He loved coming here and would complain if I picked up too early. The teachers, assistants and aftercare staff were all incredible. I can't say enough good things about everyone that works at this school. Everyone was always very pleasant and helpful. Bonus: Photos of activities were updated constantly on the app, great way to keep up with my sons day at school. Lunch options via school house grille. I ordered at the beginning of the month and was delivered straight to school. Tuition was significantly lower than kinder care.

A testimony: I started researching daycare's for the twins…read moreback in October. When I found Saint Mark's Montessori school I was taken away with it, and really wanted to register the boys there. The application process was rigorous to say the least. We had to go to an open house, a classroom observation, fill out the application and pay the fees, and then go to a parent/teacher/student interview just to be emailed one week later saying that we weren't accepted into the program due to Ryan's inability to follow directions during the interview. Mind you, my son is only TWO years old! So I went back to the drawing board. I would look up a school, go to yelp and google reviews to read about people's experiences, go to MapQuest to see how far it is from our house, my job, and Kevin's job. Then I would go to the DSS website and read every complaint filed over the last two years, and finally I would call the daycare to see if they had any openings available. Once I did all of that, I would usually tour the daycare on the way home from work. I did this entire spiel over and over and over again. All the daycares we liked were either too far of a commute, or didn't have any openings. The ones that had openings were dirty, had too large of teacher to student ratios, were outdated, etc. etc. Every school I went to that had an opening made me feel like I was compromising on something in the long run, be it small cramped classrooms, or what have you. Then I stumbled on a thread in one of the mom groups where someone mentioned that they loved Little Flock Christian School. I had been to every school within a 15 mile radius of my house but didn't remember coming across that one, so I googled it. When I looked up reviews it had 4.8 out of 5 stars, NO DSS violations, and an outstanding curriculum. Then I Map Quested it, and it ended up being only 2.5 miles from my house! (How did I miss it?!) So I called them Tuesday morning to see if they had any openings, and they did! That's when the principle said "We usually do tours on Tuesday mornings. I know its short notice but if you have time to come in we would love to show you the school." Coincidence that it just happened to be a Tuesday that I called??? After the tour I was completely shocked. The school was huge, clean, had age appropriate toys, taught Spanish AND Arabic, I could go on, and on. I left feeling like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I didn't even wait to tell Kevin before starting the enrollment process. Here is the kicker, they have a referral program where if you refer another student you can get one month of free tuition. When I was going back to the fb thread to find the person who recommended the school, the thread was gone. I searched by keyword and everything, it's like the thread was never there. It feels like everything that has happened up to this point was meant to happen. We found a school with firm Christian values, close to our home, reasonable tuition prices, will allow the boys to be in the same class, has openings, and has a mind blowing curriculum. Not only that, included in our application folder was an article: "The Strong willed child: How to save sanity and celebrate God's works" Do you have a Strong Willed Child at home? Check out our blog for ways you can guide your passionate child and celebrate the way God made them! So today Kevin and I are meeting with the principle to turn in Mason and Ryan's birth certificates and shot records, and we will formally be a part of the Little Flock Christian Academy's family. We couldn't be more excited. Glory to God.

The answer was my child application was still incomplete. At that point, their admission process was pointless, and I was no longer interested sending my child there. However, they already withdrew my $75 back in November. Why would they take my money when application was incomplete, and they didn't perform child assessment yet. Long story short, they gave out absurd excuses and the whole process was just a mess. Big waste of time and money. Out of multiple schools I applied to, this school was by far the most disorganized, money-driven school. I highly doubt quality of education from this school. I'm glad my child will be attending other school.

Our daughter's teacher lifted her by the forearm from a seated position to a standing position, immediately dislocating her elbow and causing her agonizing pain. We had to take her to the ER to have her elbow reset, which is an extremely painful process. I know exactly what happened because there is video surveillance of the incident. You do not have to trust my word - the Department of Social Services investigated, cited Merritt for 3 violations, and detailed the incident themselves. Their findings against Merritt are public info: https://dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/cc2.cgi?rm=Inspection;Inspection=135089;ID=9599;search_keywords_name=Merritt%20academy;#Violations Look at the Dept of Social Service's findings (based on their review of the classroom video surveillance) - my daughter TOOK A BOOK from another child, and for that the teacher said "really girl!", yanked her angrily from a seated position to a standing position (immediately dislocating her elbow) and then LEFT HER TO CRY after she was injured. Thank GOD for cameras or we would never have known what happened that day.

We ended up leaving but the amount of tuition they charge (and it keeps increasing every few months) is crazy for what we're getting. pot holes in the parking lot go unfixed, their signage on the awning got taken down (both did) now its a blank space that looks like something should be there. The inside has not great lighting and wall colors, it looks kind of dim/depressing, instead of bright and clean. I don't know where all this tuition money is going. It could use a facelift and better playground. The school aged kids room has 2 men as the sole providers and I asked if there were ever female assistants or helpers in there and was pretty much told " i know there's a stigma against male daycare teachers." Ok?? sorry males are responsible for 75-90% of the crimes I'm worried about. And Males constitute the majority of "offending" child care providers/babysitters reported to the police (77%) So I don't think that was a ridiculous question or even something ridiculous to be concerned about. And her lack of concern towards MY concerns was unsettling. We also had multiple incidents with my preschooler, one she told me the teacher grabbed her face because she wouldn't wash her hands, and it hurt. They didn't really do anything about it except, apparently, ask the teacher if she did that and she said no. Ok....Why would a 3 year old make up something so random? The preschool teacher also had a loud bell she would ring to get the kids to pay attention which my 3 year old was scared of and she had sensory issues with loud sounds after that started happening, she would freak out at any loud sound and it didn't stop until after we pulled her out. Another incident in the preschool classroom was that they were trying to get all the kids to be quiet and so they told them that here's a monster out in the hallway of the school and if they don't be quiet the monster will come in. So naturally, my 3 year old told me about this, very scared, and was scared of monster in the school and at home, especially at bed time, for awhile. Again, told the front desk, I don't think anything was done about it. My 3 year old went here for a year. She cried almost every day at drop off. She hated going there. I thought it would ease up eventually but it never did. My school ager liked the kids but that was about it. One of the school aged teachers even apparently sat there and told the kids he doesn't like them and what he doesn't like about each one, and some kids cried. I'm just glad I'm out of this money suck. It is not up to the standards that the local competition has, and shouldn't be charging the same tuition as the local competition. I would not recommend this place.
