There's no one better than Merri (and this is coming from the pickiest client ever)! Before Merri, I was never satisfied with either the color, cut or customer service from my stylist. But Merri offers it all! She always greets me with her huge smile and is ready to go to make me look gorgeous. I just love that she is always on time! It is a HUGE pet peeve of mine when stylists leave me hanging, but she does such a great job managing her time and scheduling her clients appropriately. What's more, as a total control freak, I have never felt comfortable telling my stylist, "do whatever you think looks best!" and trust that I'll walk away happy---but I know I can with Merri. I feel so well taken care of in every aspect... from consideration for my time to her excellent seasonal recommendations. Regarding COVID safety measures, the salon is going the extra mile to protect clients. The business is kept clean, wiped down to disinfect, staff have masks on, there is ample sanitizer, a limited number of people in the same room at one time, throw away capes and new partitions. I've never stayed with a stylist longer than a few months, but Merri is such a gem that I'm happy to report that I've finally found my hair home. read more

Unfortunately, when I went for my apt, I brought my own brush (for my own personal reasons) and wanted her to use it instead of the salons. She proceeded to then tell me my brush is the wrong brush to use. She then said to me "do you really want to spend the next 2 hours with me?? I have never in my life feel so berated. I told her I don't care abt the brush and could you please just do my hair. So I left and told her she made very uncomfortable and I didn't understand why it was such a big deal to use my own brush!!! I have never left an establishment like that before. Forget what you have heard, seen on tv or read this place is fantastic. They have changed locations it is smaller now and located on 1501 main street. Smaller does not mean less service or attention. I received a glass of wine while I waited and there were some pretty comfy couches and chairs to wait on. The new place while smaller and more intimate still a fantastic place to get your hair cut. Everyone I met was friendly and helpful. I went yesterday to get a cut/highlight/style and Jessica Conley worked her magic AGAIN. This girl can change your life! Her scissors are like a magic wand. Her color skills are the best around. I would put her up against ANYONE on Newbury any day of the week. I had a general concept of how I wanted my hair and I let Jessica work her magic and BAM I look like a whole new person. So Ive been going to this salon for a while but decided to try a new salon with a friend of mine in Reading. So I get my hair colored at this new salon sat back in her chair for the cut and she ends up telling me on one side of my head the hair is about 2 inches shorter than the other side. I'm in complete shock, she shows my friend as well and her face said it all, like you have to cut that to even it out so I went wanting just maybe an inch or so off and had to leave with way more taken off to even it all out and fix that huge mistake. I went to this salon on an impulse because I was in the Tewksbury area. I had cut & colored my own hair & it was really dry & impossible to wear down & still look "normal". Everyone in the salon was very welcoming. I had a very lengthy hair consultation first which was nice & made me feel like they cared about my opinion (despite what I did to my hair!). They gave me a complimentary protein condition treatment because my hair was so damaged. And free snacks & refreshments while I waited. It took a long time because I had corrective color but both the cut & color results were amazing. I am going to post my pic on YELP so you can see it! Kristine England did my hair & it was her first day @ Touch of Elegance. She certainly had her hands full & her work wasn't "beginner's luck" because she is experienced. The owner ,Deb, called me a few days later to check if I was satisfied & invite me back for more complimentary conditioning treatments! WHO DOES THAT??? Talk about customer service! Deb said she wants to make sure I love my hair & that it stays healthy etc... I am not always "monogomous' when it comes to hairdressers/salons & I am tempted by all those CVS dye in a box products as well, but Deb's hands on interest & approach may change me yet! Looks can be deceiving and that is especially the case when you pull up to this small salon. It doesn't look like a high end or especially nice place to get your hair done from the outside, but on the inside, they have done a nice job of making their clients feel at home. I came in to get my hair done being 7.5 months pregnant. On top of that, I would consider myself the most picky person in existence when it comes to the particular shade of blonde that I prefer for my highlights and how I like them done. Deb and Alicia invited me to stop by a couple days before my appointment to answer any questions and take a look at my hair. I was concerned about fumes and they took the time to show me the products that they were using (more natural-based...so less smelly) and actually went through my hair to determine their strategy for when I came in. I was really impressed with the time they took and the questions they asked to make sure they were going to get it right for my appointment. They even created a profile for me in their computer and took notes about what I wanted! I have never had a stylist do that and became confident in my appointment. During the appointment: They both worked on my hair (I have a lot of it) and took their time. I didn't feel rushed and could tell they knew what they were doing. I require a toner after dying and they put it on evenly. It started to look like it was getting too ashy. I panicked and asked them to take it off. It probably should have stayed on a couple minutes longer (as Deb called) but since this was my first time with them and my baby shower was that next weekend, I was nervous, jumpy and hesitant to trust. My hair turned out great and I am actually very happy with the work that they did. The blonde looks natural and just the way I like it. Kudos to Deb and Alicia for putting up with my pickiness and paranoia. I will definitely be back. :) read more

A few months back I got a groupon deal for a haircut and blow dry. I went in for a trim and everything was perfect. I'm used to having my hair butchered- meaning I ask for literally a inch or two off and I somehow walk out with more than 4 inches taken off. Last week things didn't go so well... I went in for another trim (2 inches off) and had the same stylist as before. When she was done she put my hair in french braids and I left. I kept the braids in for a few days and I finally washed my hair I noticed something different about my hair. The section of hair right around my face was extremely long in comparison to the rest of my hair. The ends looked extremely choppy and were noticeably shorter. When I put my hair up into a pony tail there was a chunk of hair that was about 2-3 inches longer than the rest of my hair and I was pissed. How do you manage to screw up a basic trim so badly that this happens?! I asked for 2 inches off and I ended up having more taken off the back while the front was barely touched. I didn't bother contacting the salon to have it fixed because they cannot be trusted to do a simple trim. I wonder if the stylist knew she messed up but didn't say anything because she thought I wouldn't notice? Today I went to Ulta to get my hair fixed and my stylist was even wondering what happened to my hair. I won't be returning to this salon again. read more

Alicia is seriously the best. I have been seeing her for almost two years now and no one has ever been able to color my hair as well as her. She's gotten my hair to be the shade of red I've always wanted. She's sweet, funny and very talented. I don't mind driving 30+ minutes every few weeks to see her because she is just that good. Debbie is the epitome of hair design. She did an absolute outstanding job with my 14-year-old daughter. In preparing for my daughter's 8th grade semi-formal Social Dance, I sought out a couple of salons in the area and narrowed it to two. I am glad I chose Touch of Elegance and probably will not go anywhere else from now on. Price is reasonable, Debbie and Alicia, were super friendly and hospitable. Debbie took the time to understand my daughter' s interest, showing pictures, etc. Seeing the picture is one thing but to see her execute the finish product was AMAZING! Alicia the esthetician did a superb job with the make up application. Her technique enhanced my daughter's face without over doing it. My daughter transformed from 14 to 18 in less than 30 minutes. I will definitely come back for more. We are looking forward to Debbie's next creative touch whether it be for the prom or a wedding. I highly recommend TOE and if I could give 10 stars, I would! Went here for a mani-pedi today. I was not very impressed. It seemed like the nail services were added as an after thought, and while I'm sure their hair salon is great, the nail service was not. I've come to expect a big cushy (at least) pedicure chair, usually with a massager in it and a flowing blue heated bath for my tootsies. They have office-like chairs on pedestals with cutouts for at-home pedicure baths to sit in. The girl had to unplug the bath, bring it away somewhere to fill it with hot water, then bring it back, plug it back in, and carefully drop the bath into the floor cut out. Overall, things seemed kind of hectic, we were the first ones in for the day so we were fine but our girls kept being asked if they were going to be finished soon because they had clients waiting, and whether they could squeeze more people into their already booked days. So obviously they are doing something right to be getting so much business, I just think it is on the hair salon side moreso than the nails. For what it's worth, the two girls I interacted with were really friendly and nice, and did a nice job on my nails. My issue is more with the actual salon than the people. read more

I found Touch of Elegance (February 2011), and I am forever greatfull. Debbie is extremely talented! I thought I would never get my hair fixed and I lost my trust in stylists. Debbie consulted me and went over each step as she did my hair. I have my beautiful blonde hair back. I can't thank her enough. Debbie is professional and knows what she is doing. I spent over $450 at the other salons, and Debbie fixed my hair in one visit, and it cost me less than half of what I spent at the other salons. My hair is soft and shiny even after it had been traumatized by 3 other stylists, thanks to Debbie's MAGIC TOUCH!!!!!!!! Please read my sad hair story; I had my hair done at a salon in December 2010. My hair came out BRASSY I returned to have the stylist tone it down. The stylist was in a rush and she burned my hair and made it even BRASSIER. Needless to say I had to cut off 4" of my hair and find a salon to fix the disaster she created. After 3 other salons and the Brassiest hair I have ever seen I was watching TV and Touch of Elegance was on Tabitha's Salon Takeover. I live close by and there was something about Debbie that I liked (now I know what it is). She is a very sincere person and an expert in hair! This place is very unprofessional and that is why I stopped going here. While back I booked a massage for me and the H and when we arrived, they changed the person I requested to someone else. When I asked, they told me that she had other arrangements for another client, which is a lie since I booked her month in advance. Came to this Salon because it was close to my house and they said they could fit me in within the hour. The staff is very welcoming, energetic and friendly. However, the Salon as a whole is very over priced. I paid $160 (which was a discounted price) for what I was told was going to be two colors & a partial foil. The hairdresser did the two colors however, no foils were ever done as I was told that just the two colors would give the look I wanted. My hair was supposed to be an ombré with caramel highlights (see picture I showed for reference) but what I got is a very obvious half and half two colors (again, see pictures). I was excited when I left the salon as they made me feel very good about how it looked but now that it's straightened and I can see it in the sun I have to unfortunately find another salon to correct the work. Rated 2 stars for the friendly staff. Otherwise, would recommend doing a little more research before coming here read more

The owner came over and looked at my hair prior to coloring to make sure I knew what I wanted and to understand what I was looking for from my color. The staff was excellent and very inviting. I got an Amazon Local deal here for a foil, cut, and eyebrow wax in May 2015. I'm extremely disappointed in the experience I had here and will not be returning. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 is that they attempted to fix one out of the many issues I had for free. I would not trust the owner Debbie, especially, to do your color. She loves to hear herself talk and that she knows the chemistry behind color and how she is better than all other hairdressers out there, but I ended up with hair much darker than I was looking for and the foil streaks ending abruptly on the top of my head. Instead of a deep chestnut brown, my hair was almost black and faded to light on the top of my head. I looked like a skunk and like I'd done the foils myself. I called after a few days of wearing and washing it. I told her I'd be fine with a lightening shampoo. Done. She was courteous in scheduling to see me again promptly, but acted inconvenienced and short with me once I arrived. There were other customers waiting, but it's not my fault she's short staffed and scheduled things so close together. She tried to tell me that the dark color was my natural color and had a hard time coming up with a solution for me, suggesting things like dying my hair in two tones because of the horizontal and vertical planes of my head. Really? I do not need to hear wacky scientific explanations, just real solutions. She lightened the abrupt foils streaks, but had to fix it not once, but twice in that same visit because it still showed and then she accidentally lightened my natural hair! Very unprofessional. I am still not 100% happy with what I have, but would rather have my eyes poked out than to hear her talk anymore. As if that was not enough, she forgot that I had a deal that included eyebrows, so I had to come back the next day. I told Alicia that I like my eyebrows natural and didn't want them any thinner really, just shaped. I was horrified when I got home and saw my eyebrows butchered into thin arches with a chunk missing from one. I've been penciling them ever since. When I called Debbie to share my dissatisfaction with both services, she thought it was "interesting" which I felt was rude. Never once did she take any blame or apologize for any of this. You should feel good about yourself and beautiful after going to the salon, not uncomfortable and disappointed. Good luck seriously if you go here! read more

A couple of month ago I went in for a manicure. It was the first time I had ever been there. I got the worst manicure ever. The manicurist Stephanie ( I really think she was a hair stylist with nothing to do) didn't use any water nor did she soak my hands, didn't cut hangnails, barely cut the cuticles, no hand massage, etc. I really thought it would have been great since they charge more ($15.00) for a manicure than most places ($9.00 - $12.00). Im new to Burlington and thought Id start looking for good local salons. After speaking with Debbie on the phone when booking my appt. I had a good feeling about getting my hair done at this salon. I felt she really put ownership and pride into her client experience. I had two stylists do my hair, Liz did my partial highlight and Justine did my cut. I was extremely happy with both services. I LOVE Touch of Elegance salon! Debbie does an AMAZING job, and she really takes care of you. My hair was a mess when I first started going to see Debbie, a prior hairdresser wreaked havoc on my hair and it was a disaster. Through her expertise, she's really made my hair all that it can be and so much more! My hair looks so much better and healthier thanks to Debbie. I'm so happy with my hair, I honestly could cry! My mother had a similar situation with the same hair dresser that ruined my hair, so naturally I recommended her to see Debbie. She did a phenomenal job on my mom too, and really envisioned and delivered exactly what my mom really wanted. The owner is claiming that she is "suddenly relocating" when the truth of the matter is she has been evicted and not been paying rent for months! People talk around town, lady. The owner of this salon is inexcusable in behavior in everyway. I arrived for an appointment, the place was sloppy and in disaray. While I had my hair done I witnessed the owner ranting and raving about how hard it is to run a business. She then proceeded to do her own customers hair and proceeded to complain to her own client own her business problems, her financial problems and life problems. Excuse me but don't clients come to relax while they are in the chair. Clients should feel relaxed the moment they walk in the door. Inexcusable and unprofessional. I was very disappointed with their service. I went to get my hair highlighted and it came out lighter then I expected which later on I found out the hairdresser bleached my hair. They called me a week later as courtesy call to see how satisfied I was with the color. I explained to them how I felt about the color. They scheduled me an appointment the next day for color adjustment. After they adjusted the color and ready to leave, I found out I had to pay for the color adjustment. Terribly disappointed. The place is shrinking in size and services, now at 1501 Main Str. I tried the place twice, and on both occasions they could not honor their gift certificates. On the second try, I had to request the certificate value back because the salon could not offer stated services. That turned ugly, and the owner became rather hostile.
