Went first thing in the morning and the options were great in terms of pastries!! The cakes in the glass case were more limited but they had roll cakes and this yummy yuzu cake! Nice service and good lighting to help the pastries shine.

Tiramisu latte

I got to try their Tiramisu latte the other day and it tasted really nice, well balanced with the cold foam and the cocoa powder and the coffee itself is very nice! TLJ will always be the place for me to stay and get some comfort pastry and drink!

So we went a little crazy in this place, getting two boxes of assorted sweet breads, pastries, and other treats. I have an extreme sweet tooth, so my favorite things were the chocolate filled donuts, and the cream filled horns (I could be wrong and exactly what they were called, but that's what they looked like to me). My son absolutely loved the croissant and the croissant filled with a hotdog maybe? He thought that was awesome. Two of his favorite foods combined like he'd never experienced before. We spent a lot of money that day, but I don't think we touched the service on the variety of different treats offered and I'm sad that it's so far away from my home because it will be a while before I get to go back there.

strawberry matcha latte, mango and blueberry cream donuts!

The vibes in this cafe are the cutest! I felt like I was in a french version of 85 degrees. The pastries are about the same price as 85 degrees and Paris Baguette. The strawberry matcha latte was okay. The milk part felt like strawberry milk vs other drinks that use strawberry jams! The mango and blueberry cream donuts were delicious!! So perfectly fried and soft. Some donuts can be oily or dry and this was neither! Great spot to get pastries and catch up with friends during a rainy day

Great desserts. The strawberry croissant is a must. Simply DELICIOUS !!! It's a standout favorite among my friends. The croissant has a crunchy crust, a soft inside and delicious semi-sweet cream filling. Yummy.

Ube Latte

This is slowly becoming my go-to comfort bakery! Almost every weekend I go there to try out some new baked good or pastry and I am surprised every time. Their mushroom onion cheese pastry is to die for. The taro cream bread is tasty too! The baristas are quite skilled and my beverages are always perfect. It can get a little too crowded on weekends but you can still find a spot to dine in. They also have outdoor seating. Last time, I tired Ube latte and it was just delicious. The purple swan latte art looked cool too. I highly recommend this spot.

After the flowers, the next on the list was a cake for my daughter's birthday party this evening. **Full Disclosure** We did not pre order a cake. But I was looking for a small confetti cake for the family. I walked in and the selection wasn't very good. I was thinking about getting some pastries but everything looked over the top. These items did not look Italian. Americanized Italian maybe but not authentic in my opinion. I did walk out without purchasing anything. Next stop, New Seasons. PS. I would recommend La Provence for authentic Italian and amazing croissants. **Edit-- I have been advised that this was not an Italian Bakery. I apologize for the error.**

Excellent variety of sweet and savory treats! You pull from cases yourself and pay at the register. Perfect to grab some pastries for breakfast or some sweet treats for dessert. Can't wait to come back and try more

If you like carbs, this place is for you and if you also like sweet pastries, it's all very delicious. However, it's not for me.

At this point I've tried a number of things here and every one of them were delicious! The Japanese pancakes were so fluffy and fun, called ahead just to make sure they could make them right after opening but couldn't get through. THEY CALLED ME BACK IMMEDIATELY!! I have never had a food place care enough to actually call back if they miss a call. I was so happy with the pancakes too, nicely made and yummy. Their tiny cakes are all perfect too, I'm in love with each one especially the PDX rose! So bright and flavorful, with a beautiful outside that matches its taste! Can't forget the Japanese Cream Cheese Bun, it's soooooo good and the price matches the taste (aka good price for a good dessert). Not too sweet but still delicious! Just gotta make sure you eat it fresh, forgot to eat my last one for an hour and it got dry but still had its yummy taste. I super recommend this place!!

I added breakfast to this place while they visited me for a few days. We called in our order as instructed on the website. Unfortunately no Boba was available for on the pancakes. When we arrived I was disheartened to find the place rather small either intense heat of a bakery, which made the lone table inside with a meandering fly the least bit welcoming. When adding drinks to our order, the lone man working there asked me a few times whether I really was ordering coffee for a child (and yes, she settled on a mocha when it was determined he only knew how to sprinkle matcha powder on the pancakes, and hadn't a clue as to their application to drinks). My grandson ordered their 'special hot chocolate' which pretty much tasted like watered-down Ovaltine. We sat outside to eat and after a few bites and finding these were nothing like the fluffy Japanese pancakes they'd expected, we threw away $44 worth of what was supposed to be a pleasant breakfast experience. I guess this was a life lesson for the kids, that our expectations aren't always met. And I want to prevent any other adults from making the same mistake I did in taking my business there!

Every single person I've interacted with has been so incredibly kind, so don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. They have a full coffee menu, make their own syrups, and often have an employee special that's fun to try! Don't skip a drink! They also offer an array of pastries and bread. I love their almond croissant, even though it's not usually my first choice. There are so many layers and it's so flavorful. I'm also a big fan of their breakfast sandwich, mostly because it comes on a croissant. Honestly, you can't go wrong here. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try next time you are in the area, you won't regret it. The turkey bagel was made from fresh ingredients and well packed, it was a delicious way to start the day! While I was exploring more of Forest Grove I was thinking back to what I was charged, thinking it was a quite a bit more than my last visit here, and I did look back at the menu and realize I was charged double for my half loaf ($9 for a half loaf of bread). I totally understand mistakes happen, I went back and the staff were very helpful in finding my order and refunding me the amount I was over charged. Can't wait to try more from Slow Rise!

I tend to pick from the shelf-stable pastries since for some reason whenever I visit it is always hot. That means I have to skip at the cake/pastry case even though the desserts look so tantalizing. My favorites are: Kare pan: House made beef curry inside of a deep fried donut coated with panko. I don't understand how it's possible for this creation to remain crispy even though it's stored at room temperature instead of the more usual warming lamps. The curry is thick and has generous chunks of beef and vegetables. The bread isn't really "donut" per se since that brings to mind something sweet with a tender crumb. It's more of a fried bread dough that's deliciously chewy. Bacon and blue cheese mini epi: Épis de Blé is a bread that looks like a sheaf of wheat that is very similar to a baguette. Their take has a chewier crumb and crust instead of a shattering crispy outside as with a traditional bread of this type. The cheese and bacon make this such a luxurious bread. They don't use the shelf stable bacon; they use the good stuff so it adds a great texture to the bread. It's not heavy in blue cheese flavor, so even though I don't like blue cheese, I still adore this bread.

My mother and I were having a lovely Sunday afternoon today and wanted to enjoy a nice lunch this…read morelocation. However, enjoy was the last thing i would call our experience today. Mainly due to one INCREDIBLY rude employee, who i am going to assume is the manager, or something close, considering she was the only one in plain clothes, and not in a uniform or server outfit. This woman was an absolute walking nightmare. First off, we came in around 1pm. Mind you, this location closes at 3pm. So immediately, after we walked in, we stood there for a good minute or so before one of the FIVE employees, including nightmare manager lady, who were standing on, in or around the front counter ask "table for two?".. as the manager slowly grabbed our menus to hand to the server, i immediately noticed she had an attitude. Almost like she was annoyed we were coming to eat.. I shook it off, we sat down. We had our small dog in a stroller, so we had asked to eat outside. The outside area was busy. It is a sunny 70+ degree day so we asked for as much shade as we could get. The server pointed us towards a table with one half completely in the sun. We pointed to the 3-4 tables behind us that were in full shade. The server said they just closed that section. Umm ok, but, not the severs fault that the available tables were in the sun.. so, ok, no problem. We sat down. It took our server a while to get to us, but she was hustling and doing very her best. When she got to us she was gracious and very friendly. She was also very accommodating when we ask for our meal to be split to share. I wish i had gotten her name because she was the only nice part of our experience today and she was a lovely young lady. So, as we waited for our food, my mother was getting uncomfortable in the direct sun. I offered to switch seats, but she just tried to move her chair more to the side, towards the inner isle. Nightmare manager whips out of the door and VERY rudely, and loudly, barks at my 74yr old mother "mam, that's just not going to work! It's too narrow in here!" Everyone looked at us as she yelled this at my mother. At this point, most of the tables outside were emptying. So i said "could we maybe switch tables? She's just very uncomfortable in the sun." this nightmare of a human throws her hand up at us, like IN OUR FACES, and in a very annoyed voice says "you gotta give me a minute " and darts past us. We were floored. My mom and I look at each other like "huh?!?" There is now very few people left in the entire restaurant, inside or out. So it was pretty clear it was less about being busy and more that she was simply in "i want to close up and go home" mode. But hey, food service can be stressful, i get that. What i don't get is yelling at customers like they're your five year old. At this point the servers are wiping down the tables and stacking chairs. Mind you, it's only been roughly 20 min. So it's about 1:30pm.. again, they close at 3pm. But they were all clearly in shut down mode.. So when nightmare manager lady doesn't come back, we asked another server if we could move. She looks around at the empty tables, that are now 100% in the shade, and is like "ummmmmmmm, sure?" I said "great!" Got up and move to the shadiest table. Then nightmare manager whips outside again, and, as we are picking up our our silverware and water cups, this woman shoves next to my mom, who fumbling with her water glass, purse and silverware, and begins wiping the table down before we even retrieved our things. She says nothing to us. Her body language was aggressive and she was obviously very annoyed. Annnnnd that's when I called it. We hadn't even received our food. We got up and left, while I chipped "you can tell them to just throw our food away. You've been incredibly rude and we're done" and we left. This woman ruined a lovely Sunday afternoon i was spending with my mother. She was annoyed and rude the second we interacted with her. She may be stressed out, but to treat customers with such obvious distain, is unacceptable. This woman clearly can't handle the pressure.. so i HIGHLY recommend they get her out of the kitchen, LITERALLY! To this nightmare woman, i am so sorry we annoyed you with our business today. Don't worry, we will not be back..
