This was my first time here. I am a VA client and frequent the clinic a block away from this coffee place. I have been looking for a decent breakfast/brunch place close by but so far no luck there. I am still recovering from renal failure so my mobility is severely limited. I travel mostly at the pleasure of the Veterans Transportation Service or Trimet Lyft. Today's Dr appointment finished up sooner than expected so I had some time to kill before the van returned to take me home. So I fired up my tablet and took a look on Yelp to see if there was anything of interest close by. Enter Insomnia Coffee. Lots of positive reviews. Right around the corner. So... off I go. I an a US Navy brownwater sailor. We drink coffee that tastes like coffee. No additives. None. Not even cream or (gasp) sugar. So when I told the barista [HA! The person who pours coffee into a cup] that i wanted a cup of coffee black I got this sort of deer in the headlights look. What? ...I'm sure she was thinking... no Madagascar cinnamon? no foaming goop? no stale crouton crumbs? no pumpkin pie spice? Ummmm seriously? People want their coffee to taste like pumpkin? Yikes. No Miss... just a cuppa Joe. Just like my first heart throb, Anna Mae Bullock....strong and black. And I have to say, insomnia delivered. Not a bad cup of coffee at all. Although I didn't really want to hang out there since it appeared that I had zero in common with anyone I saw there... hogging the comfortable looking chairs. So I had it in a paper cup, to go. Now I have a "thing" about drinking coffee from a large, ceramic mug.... I loathe tasting paper in my coffee and yes I can tell it's in a paper cup even blindfolded. but I digress. They did have a whole display area of decadent looking pastries and not the tiny, overpriced, bogus looking stuff you see at Starbucks. Not that i would ever go into a Starbucks even to use the rest room. They had several pies that made my mouth water and some gooey breakfast glazed things that would have seriously spiked my glucose. so I reluctantly passed. Perhaps next time :) read more

Turns out that coffee shops like to pretend to be inclusive but actually partner with a church that believes in conversion therapy. So if you care at all about the LGBT community, you will go literally anywhere else. My dogs water dish for example. A community toilet would also suffice. Insomnia has been a staple for me, my friends, and my family for YEARS (seriously, like 20). Their coffee is consistently so so good - I always get the Aztec Mocha with hemp milk and it's consistent at every location, no matter how busy they are - seriously skilled! The baristas are always so friendly and helpful. The staff maintains a welcoming, clean, cozy place. Top tier westside coffee in my opinion! read more

I love this place so much. The pastries are definitely a bit pricy and not my favorite, but the drinks are phenomenal and a good price. The Real Caramel Latte (iced) is my personal favorite. Great for anyone who has a sweet tooth. The outside seating is also very nice during the summer. They make the drinks quickly and the cashiers always have a good attitude. Staying in Hillsboro for my daughter's pregnancy, and the hotel coffee is GRIM. My daughter said this place is the SPOT and I have to agree! Being from socal, we have so many options. I had gone to an Insomnia Coffee years ago and remembered it as nice, so my husband and I went. Not really pleased this time. We ordered 2 lattes. At first they only made one, so we had to wait for the other. The coffee was lukewarm. The ambiance of the place was not as nice as the one I went to before. The coffee was ok, but the lukewarm temperature made it not as nice. I will stick with other coffee. read more

Insomnia kinda reminds me of the McMenamins of coffee shops. Each one has that same eclectic vibe. They always have a great selection of pastries and snacks. Coffee is good but not the best around. Used to love this place as a study spot when I was back in school. read more

This place is insane. The coffee here is S T R O N G!! If you're a coffee aficionado, you'll love it. The pastries are by far the best from any local food/coffee chain--absolutely delicious and fresh. While the coffee was a bit too strong for my liking, the overall experience was fantastic. I come to this shop throughout the week and I truly don't have anything bad to say. I always order the aztec mocha and their biscuit breakfast sandwich with sausage and it's such a great combo! I can't seem to order anything else. i've even taken my family from CA here and it was also their favorite spot to grab coffee so far! The workers are always so so kind. I once placed a pickup order of 3 coffees, unfortunately they ended up spilling all over my car on the drive home. I ended up going back to be shop and asked if I can get them remade and I would pay. They kindly told me it would be on them since they typically put stickers on the hole in the cup to prevent this from happening. On the rare occasion, like today, when I opt to get coffee in store, I always get a latte which is my favorite because it's consistently great and so is the service. This cafe was near our hotel and had good ratings so I wanted to try it. Really good drinks, we both ordered the real caramel lattes. I didn't taste the difference between the real caramel and syrup caramel because real caramel is usually more rich. However, drinks were still good and they made good velvety foam. They were not too sweet either, which I liked. I also got a rose croissant warmed up. Really good and unique! Would recommend it, their pastries look good too. Try the rose croissant! read more

Enjoyed everything about this coffee shop, from the service to the drinks to the atmosphere. Not to mention the top tier pastries- the pain au chocolat was tres good. They offer good coffee, good community vibe that features local artist. The operation is a bit slow and you usually wait for a while to get your cup (even you get a cup for a drip, you have to make it to the register). They have good numbers of outside seating if you don't mind put some jackets on. It serves my purpose, get a cup of coffee and meet people. We stopped by on Saturday morning at opening for breakfast bites and coffee for the first time. We wanted bagel sandwiches but they only had one bagel option available so we opted for biscuit sandwiches instead. The biscuits were a bit overcooked and a bit thick for the amount of egg, leaving the sandwich somewhat bland. The scones and coffee tasted pretty good, but the cinnamon roll wasn't my favorite. Doubtful I'd come back for a sandwich again, but I'd probably give them another try for coffee and/or a pastry. read more

This is my favorite place to get an Aztec Mocha. It is the only drink I have tried here. I tried it iced, blended, and hot. I think it's best iced, but for fall or winter days I would order it hot. The inside is cute with a homey feeling. There are tables and chairs with people either meeting up, working, or reading. There are restrooms inside and parking isn't too hard to find in this plaza. They do have an assortment of pastries, cookies, and bagel breakfast sandwiches. I have only tried a cookie and they are huge! But I would like to try a scone or chocolate croissant next time. read more

The biscuits alone are worth returning to this location if nothing else. The coffee was good, not bad but not great! We had the Aztec Mocha & Black Forest Mocha. I've had worse, but we've definitely had better mochas. We try a new coffee shop every weekend for reference. Service was super friendly, helpful and very fast! Super cute and cozy cafe in Hillsboro Tanasbourne area. This is one of my favorite cafes to sit and chill in. They have lots of indoor seating options ranging from standard table and chair, sofa, high bar seats, and lounge chairs. There's also various paintings and fairylights hung up in the cafe. It feels like you're in a ski resort cabin cafe. They also have a decent amount of outdoor seating with picnic tables and garden bench seats - great for the warmer weather. The staff are super friendly here. I felt very welcomed as soon as I walked in. I ordered a latte with sugar-free hazelnut syrup. Normally, cafes will maybe have 1-2 sugar-free syrup options, but this cafe had 4. The drink was pretty good. It was less sweet than I thought with just a hint of hazelnut. They do offer some special drinks like aztec mocha. I almost got one of their specials, but I was craving a latte. Overall - Cute cafe, comfy seats, friendly staff, and great drinks. This is the BEST local coffee shop. Their espresso is always smooth and they don't need to hide it under syrup to be enjoyable. But their highlight is their london fog - this is the only place I've found that actually steeps the tea before creating the latte, which makes or breaks the drink. It's consistently amazing.
