Seward Park Audubon Center - Inside the gift shop

What a beautiful place to visit. The area is gorgeous. One of the last forested areas in Seattle…read moreright next to Lake Washington. With views of Mount Rainier, glimpses of eagles, owls, shore birds and local wildlife it is a get away right in Seattle! The Audubon Society has a center where you can learn about local birds and their habitat, go on guided hikes and explore their gift shop which has all kinds of cool items to take home as a souvenir of a great day spent there. I highly recommend a visit.

While at Seward Park we decided to visit this Center. It's a welcoming space and open to the public. When we walked in we were greeted by an employee who mentioned that we could walk through the building, and recommended for us to check out the library. In the community room, there was a class being taught on emergency procedures for the wilderness. Very cool they offer classes and events here! The building is a mix of public and private space, so for the public areas, it's easy to go through it within an hour or so. The other rooms that are closed off are used for private offices and such. But I would encourage you to check out the library, which is the largest public room in the center. You can tell the space for the library was the sitting room for when the building's original use of when The Redfield Family lived upstairs. The bottom portion of the building was used as a concession stand back in the day. But the library now invites guests to check out the different books on wildlife, birds, conservation, travel, and anything else having to do with the great outdoors. Glad to have visited this historical building and learned about the Audubon Center's work. I would also suggest taking children here, as there were plenty of books for kids in the library, as well as taxidermy of birds that may be intriguing to them. The gift shop is mostly items suitable for children, too.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this Olympic National Park tour experience. From start to finish, this was hands down one of the best guided experiences I've ever had and one I will remember for a long time. We visited Hurricane Ridge, the Elwha area, Lake Crescent, Marymere Falls, and several additional scenic stops throughout the day, and every single location was absolutely breathtaking. The landscapes were stunning, but what truly elevated this experience was the way the entire day was curated and paced. Nothing ever felt rushed. We had time to really take in the scenery, walk around, take photos, learn, and fully experience each stop before moving on to the next. Our guide Evan was phenomenal. Incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, thoughtful, and genuinely passionate about the ecosystem, history, geology, and ecology of Olympic National Park. Listening to him explain how the landscapes were formed, how the ecosystems function, and the history behind the region made the entire experience feel so much deeper and more meaningful. It honestly made me want to continue learning more after the tour ended. What also stood out was how well he created an atmosphere for the group. During the drive, everyone introduced themselves and shared a little about where they were from, which made the group feel comfortable and connected. On the ride back, he had everyone share songs that had personal meaning to them, and we talked about why we chose them. It turned what could have just been a long drive into a genuinely memorable and human experience. Even the lunch setup was beautifully organized and thoughtfully presented. Every detail throughout the day felt intentional and well done. The ferry ride, the mountains, the forests, the rivers, the waterfalls, the lakes, it was all unforgettable. Olympic National Park is stunning on its own, but having such an incredible guide and such a well-executed tour made this experience truly exceptional. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Seattle/Olympic area. Easily a 10/10 experience.

This review is waaaaaaaaaaay overdue!! Easily the highlight of our Seattle trip back in January…read more2025 was taking the Olympic National Park Tour with Evergreen Escapes. Martin W. was our tour guide on this expedition and he was exceptional!!! Friendly and down to earth and extremely knowledgeable as well. He really did add another layer to this trip and made you feel comfortable and well-taken cared of. My daughter was a little apprehensive about going as she didn't know what to expect, however, this was also the highlight of her trip as well. I truly wish we had more time to explore what Olympic National Park has to offer, however, if you are on a time crunch and are unfamiliar with the area, this is easily the best way to get a taste of the park. In addition, they also pick you up right from your hotel and also provide coffee, drinks and an exceptional catered lunch! After picking us up and taking the ferry across to Bainbridge (a cool experience itself) it's a bit of a drive to get over to the Port Angeles area where we stopped at the Visitor Center, however, there is lots to see and learn on the way. Fortunately the road was open to get to Hurricane Ridge and we got to experience some snowshoeing (first time we had ever done this) and it was awesome! Not too tiring and for those who might struggle you are given the choice to stay back if you had wanted to (BUT WHY WOULD YOU!!!) We then headed down the mountain and stopped off for some sightseeing and another little walk to stretch the legs and then we headed to our next stop. Wish I can remember the name of the place, however, it was an incredible spot to explore as Martin set up for our catered lunch. It was located right next to a river that had some cool atmospheric mist slowly creeping through. There was also an easy little trail which took you through lush vegetation & moss covered trees to a free-flowing waterfall. It was just stunning and honestly you didn't want to leave. Eventually we headed to our final stop at Cresent Lake. Just wow!! The lake had a bit of a moody feel, however, it was just beautiful and the hike through to get there was just insanely gorgeous and just magical. Words and pictures alone can't do this place justice. It's just something you have to EXPERIENCE!!! One of the other highlights was the trip back on the ferry. It offers up an impressive and unique view of the Seattle cityscape all lit up as you relax and reminisce on the day. Truly wish we had more time in Seattle, as I would without hesitation want to book all of the tours that Evergreen Escapes offer and I imagine each experience is unique depending on what time of year you go as well.

Located within easy walking distance of the Seattle Center (site of the Space Needle and Climate…read morePledge Arena), the Hyatt House Seattle/Downtown is a roomy and comfortable place to stay when in the Seattle area. My wife and I used a Hyatt free night certificate for our one night (it is considered a Category 4 so the cert applied), and found the upgraded room and staff to be just right. This Hyatt House opened in 2014, and most of the facilities were modern (except one of the two elevators was broken during our stay, making elevator waits longer than normal). We checked in about an hour before the normal 4 pm check-in time, and got upgraded to a 1 bedroom King for the night. The living room had a kitchenette (electric cooktop, sink, dishwasher, microwave, and mini fridge) with plates and utensils. It also had a small desk with a real chair, a closet, small flat screen TV, and a sectional sofa. The adjoining bedroom had a King bed, similar flat screen TV (with a lot of basic cable channels) and an average bathroom with large walk-in glass shower. Like many other non-luxury hotels these days, housekeeping is done at the end of the stay unless specifically requested. In the morning, went down to the complementary breakfast. The dining space is huge, with plenty of open seating. The buffet was OK, with a few hot items and many more cold items. I did appreciate the ability to make your own breakfast burrito (always a plus for me when salsa is offered for breakfast). We could have stayed until 14:00 (which was offered without me even asking), but needed to leave a lot earlier to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare (it's about a 1:15 trip if taking the train, costing $7 total for each person). Checkout was via the Hyatt app which worked well, and the subsequent email confirmed that the visit had cost me nada.

Only negative was the elevators kept breaking down. 5 flights of stairs for every outing was a lot over time.

Hair all over the bathroom floor and a part of the ceiling looked as though it had water damage. Disgusting!! The entire room just seemed dingy and gross and made it questionable as to when the last time it had an actual cleaning. The bed sheets had holes and rips in them. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because this hotel does not have an elevator, which can get a little bit exhausting with luggage. There is a guy that can help you, but he is pretty busy and you have to wait a little bit so we ended up carrying up our luggage by ourselves. Everyone at the front desk was super friendly and welcoming and the coffee shop that is attached was really cute. I would definitely stay here again if I went to Seattle. I love the old school charm of the building and I am glad that they are redoing the wallpaper and such because there definitely is an old smell to the building which is unavoidable. I will say also that there is a smell of stale smoke in the common building carpet so if you are sensitive to scent, just keep that in mind. The room was really spacious and even had an extra area that could be an office. No complaints! The air conditioner, and the ceiling fan were bonuses. Some free coffee in the lobby would be a nice addition for your guests, but they did give water upon check-in which was needed! The lady at the front desk also switched our room so we could check in a few hours early, which was a huge relief since we wanted to explore Seattle before our show. Also, the perfect walking distance to the climate pledge Arena.
