Located in the Tower of America's, Bar 61 is part of the Chart House restaurant, which is directly below. The restaurant rotates so diners can get a 360 view of the city. Bar 61 is stationary, but the sights are still amazing. (You also get a pleasant view from the elevator.) We found a spot at the bar. First off--don't go. This place is a total tourist trap. There's absolutely nothing else in the area, and you'll end up paying a $20 cover if you park. Depending on what time you go, expect to wait in a long line just to get to the elevator. Speaking of the elevator, that's honestly the best part of the whole experience. The drinks? As of February 20, 2025, happy hour cocktails were $8. I tried the mango mojito--it was just okay. Nothing special. The overall vibe of the place was average at best. We were able to see the Tower of the Americas from the front porch of our AirBNB. We were very intrigued but at $18.50 a person for admission, PLUS parking, it was just too much for the six of us. Then I heard of a hack - there is a bar at the top of the tower - Bar 601. If you go for happy hour, admission to the tower becomes free - no, you don't get to the observation deck but the crazy ride up in the elevator and the view of the city from the floor to ceiling windows were definitely worth it. Happy hour at Bar 601 is pretty amazing - a full cocktail list for $8 each. (I had the delicious Monarch Margarita), a couple of beers for $5.75 and a large selection of varietals for $7 and $9. Also, there was a list of a dozen apps priced from $6 to $12. We were running late for dinner so we only had one drink. But, even in that short amount of time, we got to see San Antonio from 750 feet up (fun fact, the Tower of the Americas is over 100 feet taller than the space needle in Seattle. Everything is always bigger in Texas!) There is a large plaza outside of the tower where you can walk and enjoy fountains and waterfalls. It was a beautiful day so we took advantage and just listened to the sounds of the falling waters. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 4:30 to 7. There is a dress code and no children are allowed. If you're just visiting San Antonio, take time to do this. If you're a resident, this is one happy hour not to miss. read more

They don't take reservations but we called ahead as we had a group of 7. They said they'd set aside a table due to our large party. We ordered and drinks were just ok and food was sub par. Super disappointing for the prices. We had to ask for them to clear our table three times so we could move back the tables ha. Great place to visit for happy hour M-F (4:30-7pm) for discounted drinks or apps; or any other day of the week for a drink with a view. The bar sits just above the rotating restaurant: Chart House. The best part: you don't have to pay the $16.50 entrance fee for the observation deck and it offers virtually the same views! The bar only showcases about half of SA while the rotating restaurant and observation deck both give you a 360 view. The regular drink menu is extensive and you're sure to find something to quench your thirst. If you visit later in the day, I recommended heading to the seats to the right of the elevator because the sun doesn't set on that side (you won't get the sun in your face) It's also more secluded from the elevators and a little more quiet. We ordered a mango mojito, sangria, and the lettuce wraps off the happy hour menu. The drinks were wonderfully fruity and incredibly cold which was very refreshing given the heat outside but I think it was a little light on the booze (based on how I felt after the drinks). They bring out this canteen looking container and filled it with fruits and aromatics followed by several spirits which they them proceed to mix. Once mixed, the set 3 shot glasses in front of each person, each glass with its own distinct flavor. They then present 3 low ball glasses to each person and start to pour the concoction into each glass. Finally, the shot glass is emptied into each low ball to make your drinks. These cocktails were outstanding!!! Even after all 6 cocktails are poured, you still have alcohol left to continue to make some more. Definitely go check it out. And ask for the Cocktails for Two. Make sure you sit on the opposite site of the bar from the elevators to get the most panoramic view and also see what the diners below are eating. Happy hour M-F 4:30p-7p with listed happy hour cocktails $7, selected wine $6, well spirits $4, and selected beers $4. COVID times limits the number of people allowed in the elevator. Please give yourself extra time for catching the elevator up or down. All staff wears a mask and the servers were wearing gloves when we visited. Tables are sanitized between customers. I love buildings with a view. As soon as they told me there was a Happy Hour at Tower of the Americas I was all in. $4 - $5 Happy Hour drinks, plus some appetizers on special too, and a view of the city... how can you say no?!!? We called our Ubers/ Lyft, made our way there. After a couple of pictures, we went up the "open" elevator, where you can see out and how high up you're going. Some are afraid of heights so they opted to stay away from the window. Me, like I said, love the view so I gladly took the spot up front. Elevator opens up and you are immediately welcomed. You can choose table seating or bar. Some of the table are right by the windows, giving you an amazing view and a romantic ambiance, I'm sure - great spot for a date. For this time we stayed at the bar. Servers were fast and friendly. Drinks were strong, and good, and food came out fairly quick. This place is in the Tower of the Americas. To get here you have to go inside and go to the elevators and wait to go up. The restaurant (Chart House) itself was a 30 minute wait and we didn't want to wait so we just went to the bar area for their happy hour which is from 4:30pm-7pm. The bar area is up the stairs from the restaurant and it's first come first serve. We found a nice table tucked at the edge that still had a nice view of the outside. The bar area doesn't rotate 360 degrees but the restaurant does so that was the only drawback. We originally wanted the prime rib sliders but they came back saying they ran out of them. It was only 4:30pm so I'm not sure how they ran out so early in the day. We ended up just getting fries which took a little while. I got the mango mojito ($6) which was delicious! I liked it so much I was hoping we had some time the next day to come back so I could get it again. I thought the truffle tries ($4) were amazing and I legit thought about getting a second order. Our total came out to be about $20 which included great fries, great drinks, and a great view. Going to the observation desk is one floor above and it's $12 per person but you don't get the drinks or the food. In my opinion, I would take the bar over the observation deck every time. read more

My coworkers and I were looking to mix up happy hour and after seeing the happy hour menu we figured bar 601 would be a good option... boy was it an experience. It's a very Kona situation for anyone that's been to Kona grill during happy hour. Too many people and not enough seats so it turns into groups scouring for tables and inching closer as you pay the check. It's our fault for not thinking things through when it came to picking a location closer to the sun during the hottest time of the year.. the bar area was so hot it was comical. It doesn't help the restaurant/bar is surround by windows so the entire place is just warm all together. I do want to give kudos to the food and drinks. I thought about the $4 fried artichokes all day and they did not disappoint. The prime rib sliders are a must, you can't beat it for $7! The calamari is a healing portion and was delicious as well. Try the mango mojito it's the perfect summer drink! The icing on the cake to this experience was when the fire alarm went off.. there's nothing like the mini heart attack you get when this happens and everyone is looking around wondering what to do. My anxiety was turned up a notch being that we were all those feet up and I knew it was a lot of steps down! Luckily we did not have to evacuate haha. They also have a restaurant called Charter House located one floor below that has a rotating floor so you can get a 360 view of the San Antonio area while you sit and dine. Lobster tartar Like a tiny deconstructed lobster roll, and I do mean tiny. Not too much flavor. The remuloade and the toast give the lobster a much needed boost of flavor. Fried deviled eggs were "ok". Nothing special, just a devil egg that was fried. They have more things on the happy hour menu, I would not suggest any of the apps we got. Our drinks were good. We had a dirty martini and a pomegranate martini. Both tasted great. The happy hour drink menu can't be beat for the touristy spot that it is. It's free to go up to the restaurant and bar, that is also a plus.
