My husband has been taking such good care of me since I've been home recovering from surgery, so I wanted to bring him home a little something special to say thank you and why not get him his favorite beer, Duvel? He originally tried Duvel when we were in the city to watch a University of Michigan game at a bar on the Northside and ever since has been a fan of this stuff. (Stocking stuffer idea? You betcha!) It's a lighter beer and has a high alcohol content so one beer is just perfect for him to enjoy. I haven't really been out of the house until a few days ago, but decided to stop here on my way home from work this past Friday to see if they carry his beverage of choice. I have never been here before, but due to the size of the store, I figured, they had to carry it. I rarely go to a liquor store, so I just walked in and asked if they carry Duvel and the gentlemen behind the counter looked up and thought about it for a second, and gestured to me to follow him. He walked right up to it and pointed it out to me on the shelf. $16.99 for the 4 pack. Pretty much what they charge at any liquor store I have been to, including Binny's. So I grabbed a 4 pack and walked up to the counter to pay. The same gentleman rang me up and gave me my total....ah! he speaks! I did get a 'thank you' out of him and I told him to 'enjoy his weekend'. The store was a little on the dirty side, but I haven't really been to any liquor stores in a strip mall that aren't dirty, so that's not a big surprise. I glanced at the end caps on my walk up to the counter and they don't appear to really have any great deals to make you want to shop here. It's your standard strip mall liquor store when you can grab a pack of cigarettes, a lottery ticket, a bottle of whiskey and a case of beer. It would have been nice to see a store owner that takes pride in their business and maybe a friendly smile or greeting when you walk in. Nothing really attracting me to shop here again unless absolutely necessary. I think Jewel might carry Duvel, just a little more of a walk to the liquor department.

Picked this up here as a gift & have it on good authority that it's very good! Not nearly as chocolately as you would think!

The service from Mark the owner or any of his staff, is always engaging, friendly, and helpful. Add some fine cheeses or tasty crackers/bread sticks and you are set. He gave me a small tour. Advised that they have tables for tastings and even offer a small array of crackers and meats, but they are not a restaurant. He added that it's not uncommon for regulars to visit a local restaurant and just bring their food with them to enjoy their wine. There's also a selection of craft beers and spirits to choose from. We even discussed Uncle Nearest whisky! After a recommendation from the owner, I chose the VDR; Very Dark Red wine. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to go back to try more!

But the best part for me is their HUGE Vegan/Organic/Natural foods section! There are items there that I never heard about but am excited to try! I am so grateful to this store for having such an extensive array of vegan food. Plus this is an employee owned store. THEY ONLY ACCEPT THE DISCOVER CARD if you are using a credit card. Their gas prices are the cheapest around. I just wish that they were closer to where I live. Driving 20 miles to go to a store is a bit far but I can honestly say that it is well worth the trip! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! UPDATE!!! I cannot believe how much Woodman's has raised their prices! They are now higher than Whole Foods and Jewel's!!! I am shocked! Well I guess I won't be driving over 20 miles to go to Woodman's anymore. This is ridiculous. But you can't really blame them entirely. It's the POS in the White House that is mostly to blame. Him and his effin' tariffs.

You can probably find just about anything you need there. It kind of reminded me of Meijer but larger. The layout of the store is very confusing. Specialty items like gluten-free items can be mixed in with regular items, set off by themselves, or both. So, finding them wasn't that easy. From what we read of Woodman's before going, the did get good reviews on the amount and variety of gluten-free products. The same can be said for anything dairy-free. Their TV commercials talk about their great prices. I agree the items we saw on sale tended to be bargain, but the rest of the store seemed high. They are probably less expensive than Jewel, but more expensive than Valli Produce. We did get a lot while we were there and the total price was higher than we expected. So, overall, if you check their website for items on sale and you are near to a Woodman's, then by all means, the value is great. But if you don't live close to a Woodman's (like me), they aren't a great value but do have lots of specialty items.
