Town & Country is a slice of life cut from the best part of the middle American Pie! All cultural pilgrims and weary road warriors traveling through this part of the country are well served spending a night at the nearby Sleep Inn (I don't usually review hotels, but Sleep Inn just gets it right) and seeking a true American experience at Town & Country. This place defines the genre of enduring family run country restaurants. Nothing here is new, more like right out of 1958 and well worn. That is everything but the warm friendly service and a wide offering of totally familiar comforting food. I love these relics of an Americana that is rapidly disappearing into the cold predictability of franchise chains utterly without character. Prices are right and portions are generous. You know that you have struck rural restaurant gold when the specials on the chalk board are liver and onions, green beans and hominy, and beef and noodles. Your impression is confirmed by the home made pie list which is so large it requires its own chalk board on another wall. I've traveled a thousand miles just to have their beef and noodles. Last time I was there the guy before me got the last serving. Opting for a classic cheeseburger I received a seriously generous hand crafted patty, perfectly cooked medium with all the proper fixin's and condiments. My wife usually orders a grilled pork chop which never fails to satisfy. The salad bar is also a classic offering, and an essential with any meal. Town & Country is a worthy survivor from a better era and won't disappoint as long as you are open to a trip back to that era. read more

Such a nice old fashioned style small town diner where it seemed that the waitress knew almost every customer and they knew her. The salad bar was wonderful with fresh and a very great selection of Midwestern style items. The main courses were very good and generous. Prices were reasonable considering the alternatives and current price levels. I had the liver and onions with hominy instead of the potato choice, which is a interesting Midwestern side that most people don't recognize.. The peanut butter pie was excellent. They offer a discount for customers staying in town (and the waitress knew which customers were from out of town and might be staying there. Quick & friendly-ish service, at first. Unfortunately, that dissipated the longer I was there. Quiet inside, other than the local guys having coffee. Small town diner with old, quaint interior. Good, traditional breakfast. Bummed the server never brought ketchup I asked for, never came back to check on my empty coffee and never brought my bill until I had to find her and ask. Would be understandable if she had more tables. Regardless, I'd still recommend for a hearty breakfast before continuing on your road trip as opposed to fast food. read more

I LOVE local diners, especially Mom & Pop places and this was no exception, except that it was grandma, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter (Kendall is 3). I ordered the BBQ cheese burger and it came with 2 onion rings on it and homemade sourdough bread! That bread is awesome! I love sourdough bread and make my own, but her's was off the charts. Fries are frozen, but still excellent and the BBQ sauce was too. My son (age 14) ate two servings of the homemade mac & cheese. He LOVES mac & cheese and tried to eat his little sister's as well, but she wasn't having any of sharing. My husband had the patty melt on a marbled rye and he ate it all as well. We all enjoyed ice cream cones that rival DQ and came with our meals. Don't even get me started on the pie! If you can't find something, that's on you because they most definitely have something for everyone. We were driving through - not locals. Two young ladies at a nearby gas station said we couldn't go wrong and they knew what they were talking about. Haley (our server) and her daughter, Kendall (age 3) are fantastic. We couldn't have asked for better service and we will definitely be back when we are driving through town in the future! P.S. Yes, I read the reviews talking about the need for remodeling, but we were there for food, so it didn't bother us. Saw no signs of dirt or bugs, but it is not a new building. Stopped in Monday night for the prime rib sandwich special. For $11.99, you really can't beat it. I had french fries as the side. The waitress also brought me some horseradish, which I feel is a must with prime rib. As you can see from the picture, it's quite a bit of food and I was hungry after a day of prairie chicken hunting. read more

My friend and I stopped here on our way to Colorado. I decided on biscuits and gravy with coffee. The coffee was hot and fresh just like my food. I had to add a little bit of salt and pepper to the gravy to give it a little extra flavor, but for the most part it was pretty tasty. The biscuits, palm size and very moist. Our waitress was very nice and quick to get us refills and bring our food as needed. I would stop by here again if I was in the area. read more

Stopped in and ordered the German Buffet, couldn't begin to identify anything other than fried battered pork and gravy. Several buffet trays were empty, they were never refilled, same with the salad bar. Very unkept, what food was available was mixed up, just dirty. When you're the only game in town though I guess you can get by with it. Prices were good which is the reason for two stars instead of zero. read more

I'll confess yet another obsession, Mom and Pop home cooking. When I travel I love to stop in the all towns that dot my path and sample family diners, Midwest ,Southwest, it really doesn't matter. There's just something about home cooking that screams comfort. With that said, the food was good...not great but, good. The hot roast beef was tender and for the most part free of fat, but the piece of white bread under it disintegrated into a gelatinous puddle. Call me crazy... Not appealing. Take the bread out and it would have been great. We also had the chicken fried steak. This was a moderate portion, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I wanted pie for dessert, however they only had cherry or pumpkin. I was hoping for lemon, banana, chocolate, or coconut . I like cream pies. This is a little town and was here to visit my brother. Didn't want Fast food, so we decided to eat at this diner. The food was good and the waiter was attentive, but the diner needs to be remodeled from the top to the Bottom, but until then they need to clean. The Windows had dust and dead bugs lying in them. The shades were old and stained, the table condiments needed cleaning, and I didn't go to the restroom because I was scared to see how nasty that may have been. I'll repeat, the food was good, but the atmosphere "not". On my next visit I will be eating fast food back at the hotel room to avoid seeing filth. read more

Horrible. I have been going here since I can remember. But two years ago I moved away. Now I am back and there is a new owner and the food sucks. I mean really sucks. Portions are small and taste is bad to say the least. Even the pancakes aren't the same. The prices are now higher then ever. Service is slow. I saw the cook put my families food in the window (30 mins after ordering) as I passed to the bathroom with my kids. Heard the cook say someone get this food. When I went back to the table it was still in the window and they weren't even busy. Don't was your time or money. Go somewhere else. read more

Huge portions!!! Good country food in a very remote place. Had the hamburger steak and it was tasty. Green beans and fries for the sides. They were great but best of all were the deviled eggs. I had the prime rib (available only on Saturday nights) and was delighted. The medium sized cut was larger than I expected and was nicely tender. The salad bar was good and the included ice cream with fixins was a great way to top off dinner. The owner was very nice and the menu uses the names of her kids for various family favorite dishes. During my visit to Norton Kansas I found this cute little restaurant. We went for lunch during the buffet. The food was soooo fantastic. I absolutely adored it!!! Perfectly cooked. Amazing choices. Great floor!!! We loved it soo much we went again for dinner. As we walked in there were 2 servers. Not at all busy, most tables dirty. I had ordered a beer and the server didn't even know how to look at my ID and then denied me my beer until I walked up to the manager. We got out food out. VERY poor quality. The beef tips (ordered medium) were so over cooked they were hard to chew. Asked for country gravy and our server gave us brown gravy. The gravy had obviously sat there for a while because it was brown jello not gravy. Our server did not check on us To see what was wrong. Over all I am very disappointed. If you come only come during the buffet. The food was amazing and very good quality. But the dinner service and food was one if the worst meals I have ever had. read more

Dirty! We arrived for the buffet and while it is customary to stand in line at a lunch buffet, what was shocking was the man in front of me (clearly a farmer by the VERY dirty hands and odor) reached inside a plastic bag and pulled out some rolls. I guess I was expected to reach into the same bag and help myself. NOT! The meat was tasteless, the potatoes were the only thing edible and the waitress was good but the odor in the place and the disgusting filthy floor, the cup stuck to the saucer and the food stuck in between the tines of the fork at my place setting, really put me off! read more
